Crossing my fingers it’s that green/red wire, which makes sense to it’s behavior. I’m also going to replace the coil.

Ugh. Learning slowly...
Praying this is the solution.

Boy, I admit you really have 'dug your feet in' w/respect to fixing this pin. Kudos to you, been an interesting read. Ditto to everyone that helped too.

#203 15 days ago

That really means a lot. It’s not been easy... I’m hoping something in here can help others with similar issues. I’ve repaired countless solid state machines without issues, but this is whole new ground.

Here’s something interesting. What would cause my coil to read good outside the game and bad when soldered in with the game off. I’m thinking this is my issue now??? Anyone concur?

Are you sure your coin up / add player unit isn’t out of adjustment? How is the mechanical action on it? Snappy? Contacts not grimy?

#210 14 days ago

It seems to work fine. I cleaned everything on it... It even engages properly and resets when I hold the Game Over relay. I’ll show a video to be sure. Thanks.

Ordered a new Game Over relay, I think the Teflon was worn out on mine? I tried to fix it to no avail.

Replaced interlock relay. Still exact same issue???

#216 11 days ago

$20 to whoever helps me figure this out first - ASAP.

#217 11 days ago

Turned out to be a combination of the Interlock relay and the Player Up Unit Zero located in the back
box. Duh! Ugh... now on to
why it keeps kicking multiple balls, etc. the saga continues.

Now why would the Ball Release kick more than one ball???

Because the machine is not seeing the ball pass through the trough to the shooter lane?

Hi PinballGurus
I refer to the Video in post-140 - in there I see a couple of times "some gear turns and lets a ball roll into the Shooter-Alley --- shortly after: A second time - AND THEN a third, forth time - of course: No more ball - no ball rolling". Matches this video (post-140) with nowaday-times (post-220) - or should You make an new video (?). Do not get angry --- I watched several of Your videos and noticed You do test in a form / order that never happens in a regular play (in the arcade times). So when You abbreviate / shortcut: Also an fully running Nip-It (may) act strange - as this form / order cannot happen when we play. (((An standard example of "shortcut and strange behaviour": We do not launch a given ball - we take the ball out of the shooter alley and place it in the outhole and get strange behaviour --- not launching a given ball hinders the ball to make points / hinders the Ball-Index-Relay to pull-in.)))
If You want to make an new / current / up to date video: Please shoot a given ball into play, make some points --- please simulate "normal play". Do You have the manual ? In the manual they write +/- "Have the line cord unplugged, put two balls to the Outhole between the flipper-bats, plug-in, toggle-on, start a game". Does Your pin faulty kicks out both balls ?

The JPG shows the places I would look first - switches truely open ? Not only look at the long blades with the contact-points --- also look at the short studs with the solder-lug - a drop of solder there or a doghair crap of wire or one of the solder-lugs heavy bent, making faulty contact ? Or maybe the Bonus-Hole-Relay is faulty pulling ? Greetings Rolf

I’ll make one just for you Rolf. I totally understand... I was kinda winging some stuff in the beginning. Like I said, this is my first EM.

#226 10 days ago

Guru,

Maybe you can try to look at it from a different angle. Hopefully this wasn't covered before and I missed it.

Instead of mechanically checking the switches, how about using your multimeter and measuring across relay contacts (looking for voltages or the absence of voltages) to try to narrow down the culprit? Would that help? i.e. "I shouldn't have a voltage on this contact because these other switches should be open." type of troubleshooting.

#227 9 days ago

That’s initially how I started testing, but I quickly found that it’s not reliable on an EM game as a contact that’s not in contact will beep anyways if it’s connected down the line.

Got a scope?

I did a bunch of adjustments to the game last night. Going to try it again today.

Hi PinballGurus
thanks for the "up to date" video --- have You checked the stuff "marked orange in JPG in post-223" ? Greetings Rolf

#232 9 days ago

I got everything working now, but it doesn’t always advance to Ball two and the multiple ball kicking issue. That’s it. I’m looking into your orange stuff right now sir.

Latest updates:

Orange/Red and White/Orange are definitely open on the Bonus Relay as are both ball trough.

Hi PinballGurus
I do not understand (Your post-232) "everything working now" and the first video in post-232 showing the same old fault. Please explain. Maybe the fault never shows up when You plug-in the main power cord, toggle-on, start a game (?). In this situation the Bonus Hole Relay cannot be faulty pulling --- later on the relay may get activated and faulty stays pulling forever (?). When the fault shows up: Look at the Bonus Hole Relay - pulling / non-pulling ?
The Nip-It is a Bally pin, runs on 48VAC --- do You have an old bedroom light with a two prong plug and an cheap, old Edison-Style bulb (no neon bulb no LED bulb) ? We then use the bedroom light as an Test-Light ... we live in different time zones - for me it is time to go to sleep.Till tomorrow. Greetings Rolf

Ball release relay... it works now!!!

#240 9 days ago

Now of course it’s randomly taking a ball for going in the Gator Ball. Hmmm??? lol

#241 9 days ago

I’m think I inserted the balls incorrectly on that one... assuming there’s a sequence since it’s a multi-ball game???

#242 9 days ago

Does anyone know if the Gator Ball Collect is supposed to hold the ball at the end of a game?

#243 9 days ago

If a game ends with a ball in the gator ball collect hole. It will remain in there at the start of a new game. It is normal.

#244 9 days ago

Start the game with both balls on the trough switches or one in the gator hole and one in the trough switch. Do not try to start the game with a ball in the outhole.

#246 9 days ago

Finally. Thanks for all your help on this machine. I think I’ll have an easier time in the future.

Persistence for sure... the next one will be twice as easy.
