It's looking good! Is that score motor running backwards?

#53 27 days ago

I honestly don’t know? I know it’s installed correctly. Maybe it is and that caused the break? Can anyone verify?

Crap. Good call. Haha. Thanks! Hence why the roller likely broke. Rookie mistake. You’re the man!

Anyone have a pdf of the owners manual for Nip It? Seems to be hard to find.

#56 10 days ago

Having trouble with the player unit sticking. It works fine when I move it manually, but it buzzes away when the machine is on. Does anyone have one they can share a picture of?

So after all the Restoration, this is where I’m at. If you could help direct me from here, I would appreciate it. The player disc buzzes when I try and start a game and the score motor just turns. Not sure where to go from here, I’m pretty new to EM machines, but you gotta start somewhere.

Nothing to do with the buzzing problem, but it looks like you need to adjust the unit so the finger on the wiper align better with the rivets.

#60 8 days ago

Why do you call that the Player unit? Is it labelled? I think you're holding the 00-90 Unit.

#61 8 days ago

Contact @ MarkG. EM expert I'm told.

Yes, I agree the wipers are a bit off, but when I turn it manually to align the buzzing persists.

I could be mistaken. I can’t find a decent manual for this game and most parts aren’t labeled. Thanks.

Ha! This is my first EM... I already hate them. lol

Mark teaches em classes here in Colorado so I would think he knows his stuff! Don't know the guy personally but that's just what I've heard good luck. Don

I took a dead Argosy to working awhile ago. I ran myself insane trying to trouble shoot a problem here and there. Most people say its a big no no, but I eventually broke down and took the score motor out and adjusted every single switch stack to make sure they were in the right position for every turn of the motor.

After that my many problems went down to about 2. So if you are up for it, I would suggest looking at every switch leaf position on your score motor.

Also its not Nip It, but its another Bally Zipper Flipper Game. 4MBC has its schematics freely available at the internet pinball database

https://www.ipdb.org/files/935/4MBC_schematics.pdf

It may be similar to your machine, not sure, but could give you a starting point to see why/when the score motor is called to run.

And now I feel foolish, the IPD also has the Nip-It schematics. Pretty big file so loads slowly.

If the 00-90 Unit stepup solenoid is stuck on, what are this switch on the 10 Point relay, and the 10 Point relay itself doing?

Pinball (resized).png
#69 8 days ago

You have a ten point switch closed somewhere on the playfield

#70 7 days ago

I believe it still does it with the playfield unplugged, but I will take another look.

#71 7 days ago

Thanks for your suggestions. I’ll post back soon.

Some progress... I found a short. Now I’m still working on solving why the score motor won’t stop turning. I think it has something to do with the Game Over relay??? Does mine look correct?

Yes

Thanks... moving on to why the score motor won’t stop.

Can anyone tell me how this coin door is supposed to be wired? I’m having trouble understanding the schematic since there’s multiple coin switches and the schematic has Red/White and I have White/Red, but I’m assuming they ran out at the factory??? I only need one working. Thanks

Score motor runs and runs. Hmmm???

#80 5 days ago

Well, not sure, but it could be that since the score reels are not plugged in, the motor does not get the signal that the score reels are zeroed out. try it.

#81 4 days ago

Yeah, plug the head in and try again.

You don't need the playfield plugged in to get through the start up sequence.

#82 4 days ago

I actually unplugged the head to try and narrow the problem down because the score motor issue. Hmmm???

#83 4 days ago

Is there a way to bypass the score reels?

#84 4 days ago

The score reels are all at zero and the reset relays don’t engage unless I add points to the reel, then it gets reset to zero. I’m assuming it’s not the scoring reels based on this...???

#85 4 days ago

Is the score motor "index switch" opening? on the score motor, top set of switch blades closest to the front of the machine. (I couldn't find "1F" on the schematic )

Quoted from PinballGurus:

some alligator clip jumper wires might help isolate things.

that is actually "7A" in the image https://www.ipdb.org/files/1680/Bally_1973_Nip_It_Schematic_Diagram_continuous.pdf

The bare jumper isn't necessarily a "ground" but a common "bus wire" to those 2 banks of relays. I suspect fed through the "delay relay" I think yours might have a lamp socket mounted to it ... needs a #455 flasher light bulb

yes 1F is supposed to be open unless the score motor is running.

What actually runs the score motor and tells it to stop? Is it on the score motor leafs? I know there’s a reset sequence it does before stopping, but mine seems to go thru the sequence fine, but just doesn’t stop so I’m wondering if there’s something small I’m missing???? This machine is making me feel dumb.

#94 4 days ago

The tilt switch used to stop the score reel, but now it doesn’t???

#95 4 days ago

Yes, I can watch it open and close.

The reset secquence: all score reels at zero, "player up" stepper on player 1 , "ball count" stepper on ball 1
