But I believe someone else wore a mask before Plante, he was just the first to wear one on a regular basis. I could be wrong though, my wife says it happens pretty often.
Edit - I had to look it up but Clint Benedict wore a mask in the 1930's, long before Plante, he ditched it after his facial injury healed.
