I am planning a trip to Times Square New York in September/October. What are the closest and best places to play pinball. I can Uber or taxi within reason. Thanks to all!!

Jackbar - selection of games is great and well kept. Great beer selection and value ($2=3 games) vs other Brooklyn pin places.
Modern Pinball (NYC)
JackBar (BKLYN)
Sunshine Laundromat (BKLYN)
The Brooklyn locations are just a hop over the river .
Pioneers is the only spot of interest near you in Times Square. 4 late model stern games in nice shape. It’s a bar.
There’s also a treadwell location on 42nd but I wouldn’t bother. Place sucks. Free ping pong tables means idiots stepping on your ankles and scrounging under your legs for
Loose yellow ping pong balls.
The title of this thread made it sound like a new pinball theme. I'm not sure how that would work, but it sounded interesting.

Ha - I peeked in this thread for the same reason! I guess such a game would have tons of flashing lights, narrow shots with tall walls, some sort of ball drop trick, and perhaps an option to sell you a $20 Polex watch?
On-topic, the folks at Modern Pinball NYC seem like great folks.

How is Modern Pinball being kept up nowadays? I'm going to be in the city in a couple weeks and was looking to go, but pinballmap is surprisingly lacking on updates for the location.
Sunshine laundromat is the only place I have to go when I’m down that way. Absolutely love that place.
I went to pioneer once and didn’t care for it. Definitely a typical bar, with loud music and you can’t hear the pins. Also, a couple of the pins were unplayable.
Most of the action is in Brooklyn.
Here’s a good breakdown:

I play and photograph a lot at Jackbar and Sunshine.

Vastly different experiences within two subway stops of each other. There’s the South Slope/Smith Street Crawl (since you’ll already be close to the G train). If you dare go off-resort, Solid State and Milo’s Yard are deep cuts but right by the trains (subway being the fastest way to travel).
Barcade.
And check your IFPA calendar for sanctioned action.
And so it was.

If you are going ANYWHERE in NYC to "hear the pins" you won't have any luck, besides Modern I suppose, which is basically a big room of games on free play. As of last night all 4 games at Pioneers are in nice shape except Munsters, which blows anyway so who cares. I think the Grandpa hole isn't registering or something. Thrones, Batman 66 (Super LE!), and stern JP all playing great.
