This was one of my favorite games from my mid teen years. Not a particularly hard game, but I always thought the art work was great, colorful game, and the tunnel was always a cool feature.

I picked one up a couple of years ago and just recently completed the restoration. It plays great.

Cabinet was completely stripped down and repainted using Pinball Pimp stencils. New backglass courtesy of Steve Azzam at bgresto.com. The playfield was totally redone courtesy of HSA, one of the last they'll ever do. The bumpers and flippers were completely rebuilt with parts from PBR, along with all the various other parts needed. Got the shooter rod and housing replated also by Pinball Plating and More.

Now that all the free ads/thanks are out of the way, here's some shots of it. I'll have to take some more of the finished product and get some of the more recent ones off my camera. I know I'm into it way more than it would ever be worth, but that's not really the point-when I go all out on a restoration like this one, it's because I'm going to keep the game.

Here's a few of the finished game. I had a local plastics company make a new cover for the tunnel. They did a great job, and even made me an extra which I'm holding onto. I did have to countersink the holes a touch to get the screws flush. The gasket below is made from gasket material used to make gaskets for cars. Drew around the cover and cut it out with a wheel cutter, and then cut the inside out with a circle cutter. Worked out pretty well. 20181006_204145 (resized).jpg20181006_204145 (resized).jpg20181006_204152 (resized).jpg20181006_204152 (resized).jpg20181006_204237 (resized).jpg20181006_204237 (resized).jpg20181006_204230 (resized).jpg20181006_204230 (resized).jpg20181006_204220 (resized).jpg20181006_204220 (resized).jpg

    Quoted from phergott:

Wow, your game looks fantastic! I'm glad you were able to reassemble everything under the pf without any problems.

thanks, Chris. It wasn't too bad. After all these years the wires take a set and things kind of just go back where they belong. The big deal is making sure all the ground braid is connected where it needs to be and there's nothing touching to cause a short and blow fuses. Plus, this one doesn't have any big trip banks under there to cause you issues.

I've never worked on a Gottlieb two player, only four players, but I have to say Bally got it right with how they made two player games work. Dead simple. The only issue I had was player two at first would not give replays. But the circuit is not bad and it was just tweaking m/b switches on the player one and player two relays. Thankfully they're decent sized and not those damned short frame relays like Gottlieb used where you can barely adjust them on m/b switches.

The only negative to this game is no specials. I knew that going in, I like specials, but the game was one I liked as a kid and it was pretty solid and all there so I went for it. The animation in the backglass and the tunnel going around and around are fun to watch.

Quoted from phergott:Yeah, it's pretty simple I suppose, but then I didn't remove everything from under the pf, only what needed to be. Getting the tunnel out meant removing the wood mounted relay bank, which wasn't too difficult. What kicked
my ass were trying to remove the two rollover buttons. The lockwashers on the stems were on there good!
One thing I can say about Bally of this era, you don't have to worry about wire breaking away from switch tabs cause' they 'hooked' the wire into the tabs before soldering. When ordering parts from Steve, I commented on what a PITA it was to remove them. He said that "actually that's the correct way to solder".
The lack of a SPECIAL is no big deal to me. What I thought was different was that lighting the Extra Ball requires no build-up to get lit and doesn't stay lit, but turns on randomly as it's controlled by the Match Unit in the backbox(if memory serves me correctly).
    Very cool game!

Yes, it is controlled by the 10 point stepper, similar to how they did the ball gate in the right out lane on Nip It.

You have to be real careful with those buttons because as far as I know they are NLA. You'd have to find someone with extras like Brian Saunders or someone else who actually collects Bally games. I had an Odds and Evens at one time, first game I ever restored, and it had miniature rollover buttons. Those really were a PITA. I think I bought the last ones Steve Young had.

    Quoted from MikeO:

Nice work, Scott. You have another beauty there.

Thanks, Mike. I really appreciate the kind words. It took a long time because HSA had the playfield a long time but in the end the wait was worth it. I wish he wasn't leaving the business because I am doing a Flip A Card that could use a new playfield and Wade Krause will probably never do that one, so I'll live with the job I did on it.

That FAC had the worst backglass I have ever dealt with. Horrible flaking, but Steve Azzam had the glass. Otherwise no chance I would have bought it. When I took the glass to the dumpster almost all the ink that was left flaked off in my truck. It was almost just a clear piece of glass when it was tossed.
