I just purchased a TimeWarp. I bought it knowing of only its visual condition. It didnt have keys so I wasnt sure what I was in for. When you turn the game on the gi lights come on with a slight hum sound but thats it. Now that i have it opened up, I took a few pictures, Yikes!

What should my first step be? Should I just sent the board out to have it fixed, can it be fixed or new replacement?

Thanks for any help!

Can we get a closer look at the damaged area on the driver board w/the burned up transistors? Assuming the damage there is uglier than it looks it could be salvaged. Otherwise it looks like all that's required is the standard repairs/upgrades for this boardset.

Oh yeah-almost forgot the standard advice on here to check out Vid's guide on the Williams System 3-7 pinball machines. Should answer a lot of questions you may have with your Time Warp.

I will get a better picture of that area later today. Yea, ive looked at Vids guide and will see what i can do on the list and then have an experienced person tackle the rest.

I'd get a new driver board. The burnt spot looks pretty catastrophic. The MPU probably would work fine once it was gone through.

As mentioned before, give this thread a good read through--it's a wealth of information.

Aside from replacing that driver board, you'll probably be looking to re-socket the ICs and re-pin the 40 male header pins on the CPU board.

Worst case scenario, is that you can send the boards out to John Wart Jr for repair. He's done boardwork for me, and I highly recommend his services.

I found a coil under the playfield that was "locked" in place and the coil wrapper is burnt black. Am i making a good assumption that the locked/fried coil caused the board to burn?

Highly possible,if it were mine I would ask around and look on ebay for a good board.I just don't think it is worth the effort to possibly repair.

Has anyone used the MPU + CPU combo board? It is expensive but, might be the best bet since both boards look rough to me.

A friend has used the Driver/CPU board combo and was very happy with it.

Yes. As to the Rottendog combo board it is a decent alternative to the original boardset although in this case it would be cheaper to find another working driver board for your game.

I'd say that a bad transistor, in combination with an overfuse condition burnt up both the coil and board.

thanks for the help guys. I am going to purchase the combo board and ticker with this game when it comes in.

It is always best to give the machine a good look over at the very least before turning on a game of unknown condition. It could save you a lot of work, time and money.
