I know in some states you can actually get a ticket if you haul something and you don’t have it secured.
A few years ago, a guy almost hit my grandfather while he was moving some farm equipment. The driver came back to where we were and started throwing a fit because (he claimed) his sudden braking caused a tank in his truck to shift and it damaged the tool box in his truck bed.
Long story short, he called the cops on us and when it was all over he had three tickets when he left. Excessive speed, failure to yield and unsecured load. The only thing we were handed was a card from the cop that was there...in case the other driver followed up with his threat to sue. (He didn’t)
