I am going to work on an Atari Time 2000, and one item to address is the sloppy and weak flippers on this game. Plan B is to replace the rotary solenoids with linear if I cannot restore good flipper action. I'd really like to avoid that in the interest of both originality and cost. Just looking around for information on what other people have found as problems and solutions for getting these flippers going like they should before I start working on them (cleaning? mods? other?)
Thanks in advance.

Well, they(actually a number of companies) still make rotary solenoids today. If you can find schematics and dynamometer/tech specs on the original Atari units, you can probably find, or even have made, stronger rotary solenoids to replace them.

I saw that as well, but not looking closely at specs noticed the prices were pretty steep on some of them. Bears more investigation though as a part of plan B. Thanks for your input.

As it turned out, the majority of the problem were the bats. All had loose set screws. One had a missing arm assembly screw on the bottom. One had been cracked and I filled that with two part epoxy. Will clean the bottom side and return springs and adjust or replace if needed. Flippers are at or near original snappy operation. The kick outs on this game are amazing, they really fire the ball. Pops need attention. Score display is fixed, new back box lamps installed. Rubber on order. A few lamps out. Lots of fun coming.
