Just as the title shows, Create a sub forum called the dump or in this case the Out Hole, and in it there is no moderation when it comes to people arguing in public. Hopefully this will drain some of the trash out of the real threads.

When the shit hits the fan the thread can get moved to the Out Hole and people will be aware that they may read stuff that will offend.

Pinside is designed to be family friendly to everyone and a place where people can reasonably surf at the office or leave pulled up at home without children seeing things their parents may not like them too.

I use to advocate for an adult only section as well, but I no longer believe it would be goof for the forum as it would spill over and we'd get more stalkers and angry people. Also, the trolls would breed there...and multiply.

So you're asking Pinside to have an RGP section? Just use RGP. You can say anything there with absolutely no moderation. You can light the entire world on fire in a flame war and there is nobody to stop it. It is exactly what you are asking for, so open it up and flame away.

It was just a suggestion, be it good or bad. I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. I have seen it elsewhere and it seemed to work.

Slightly off topic but then again not. A test area for learning how to attach pictures for example. Ive seen this on many forums and people utilize it well. The mods can then empty the stuff from time to time.

Interesting idea, but I think it could cause more problems. Who chooses when it would get moved there? And what would it really solve?

I think maybe we should have a mechanism to vote on locking threads!

This is a good suggestion; you might consider starting this in its own thread under feature requests so Robin and the other mods see it.

I love the test area section, where people could put together long "How-To" posts at their leisure, then have them moved to a regular forum section.

The dump area, not so much. Why encourage an area where behaving badly is OK? Just stamp out the problem in the normal forums and enjoy.

there are any number of other forums that will allow members to ^%$^$^% on each other... it would be nice if pinside remained free of that...

battles in the "off topic" areas of other forums ALWAYS bleed into the rest of the site...

iow, a bad idea... there's enough lack of civility in the world today, pinside is an oasis from that...
