I probably shouldn't open myself up to the potential assery that is the masked opinions of angry pinsiders.

But I'm bored at work.

I'm finally over the nostalgia of my BK2000 and am trying to decide on a near future replacement.

It's currently between a Ghostbusters Pro and an Aliens Ripley edition.

Let me hear your pros and cons.

In case you want the rest of my lineup to influence your advice:

AIQ Prem
GZ Pro
Iron Maiden Pro
TMNT Pro
Paragon
Monster Bash CE
Sorcerer

GB pro just isn't worth the double to triple the price they sold for. Go aliens.

Had a Pro and LE Ghostbusters over the years. I liked both but neither are worth the price they go for today. Alien is a fun game and much better for the price difference.

#4 16 days ago

WAY more bang for your buck on Alien...WAY better sound, you get the LCD screen....better game for your money. I've always like GB, but not at the price they go for now.

#5 16 days ago

GB Pro was my first NIB, I thought I loved it but when it left I was really glad and had no remorse at all.
It‘s LOOKING supercool and packed but the Pro honestly has nothing left in there but Slimer on a fishing rod. And purely based on the shots GB is just not very good.

So while I never played Alien it can only be better.

GB is just a steaming hot garbage.
I'm next to an Alien weekly & I refuse to play it; 10 lbs of shit In a 5lbs bag. Of course I've only played the OG version not the remake.

Rare time I'll say Alien.

I would say many of titles before these those ...could their be a slight skew towards sci-fi/horror themes?

Pick the one with Sigourney Weaver.

GB is a masterpiece. One of Stern's best.

You are aware she really isn't featured in the game because they would not cough up the cash right?

The new edition coming out early next year is called the "Ellen Ripley" edition which features her. They must've struck a deal because there are going to be new clips and modes specifically with her in it.

You are aware that’s not true because Roger Sharpe confirmed Andrew Heighway didn’t get her license because he had no idea what he was doing. Nice try though!

*****

Roger Sharpe: There is a particular instance now that I can speak to because I was involved. Nobody ever asked me to get the rights to [Sigourney Weaver] she was available she was a central character. I know they could have done it because I got the license. And would it have cost them more? No.

The guy that actually did all the sound on Aliens would disagree with you.

Where? The vague image on the translight?

This article/interview talks about new modes that mention Ripley like a wizard mode based on the Loader fight.

But it is a touch vague as to how much integration it will be.

I've admittedly sunk 10x the amount of time in GB than I have Alien, but I've still played Alien for around 2 hours and I still prefer GB by.a fairly wide margin. This is despite me loving the theme and callouts on Alien way more.

Get the alien. Played them at expo and had fun.

How much Ripley integration was there in the modes?

I didn’t see much. It said pending licensing approval.

In the Ghostbusters hobby realm it's well known Sigourney Weaver demands EXORBITANT amounts of money for any use of her movie assets. Dave Thiel mentions this in one of his excellent sound seminars that is on youtube while he was doing the Alien sound package. I suspect that Stern has considerably more money to spend than PB on assets and Ghostbusters only has a single reference to S.W. and that is the gatekeeper persona plastic, lower left.

If you think you are going to get a PB Alien with full Sigourney Weaver sounds and video assets you should temper your expectations accordingly. I read the press release and I'm not seeing it as cool as it would be.

Ghostbusters Pro seems to be a sturdier, more reliable machine. The catch is that it's an older game utilizing certain components that Stern no longer offers.

Ghostbusters is my favorite film of all-time, thus it's my son's favorite as well. Keeping that in mind, please play both games before you make a decision. With custom audio, Ghostbusters scratches that nostalgia itch in a fierce way. On the other hand there are fewer games that really capture the true atmosphere of a theme like Alien.

Both games are beautiful. Watch the market, especially right now. I'd say jump on a Ghostbusters ONLY IF it's got some extras, if the price is great. Please do not overpay.

Alien is on my wish list and is currently being built and supported.

For the current MSRP, Alien Ripley Edition is probably the way to go here. Ghostbusters wins if you find someone parting with one for 7k or less. Inspect the cabinet, especially the corners; I have seen some people have issues with separation.

I say go with GB. If your going to have Sterns 1st and 3rd worst games you might as well have #2.

I'm going to assume one of these is TMNT; what's the other one? Honestly curious.

Aiq is#1 imo. The shots all return to the center, the repeatable loop from the upper flipper to right ramp is a snooze fest,God forbid you get a premium with a captain marvel ramp that doesn't work and the worst hot shit mess of rules ever assembled.

You think games like Transformers are better than AIQ? Interesting.

“Ripley now appears in the code for the game. Specifically, Alien Pinball now contains 33 new movie clips containing the character.”

Hands down. The building up the shot multiplier and choice of which side is fun. I do find the rocking mini playfield on the LE stupid though.

Movie clips.. No call outs? I used the term "full assets" for a reason, it would be most unusual based on her past history.

Maybe her phone isn't ringing as much these days or she fired her agent.

#30 11 days ago

I think all the callouts in Alien are backed by a movie clip.

The callouts are done by an imitation of the MU/TH/UR computer voice from the ship in the first film. Everything else is clips from the film.

He's a little bitter aboot AIQ.
If you're "looping the upper right flipper" for any reason...well I just don't know why
