Quoted from kruzman:What a journey! I just pissed away an hour, but that's ok. Voltan looks so amazing!
Thanks Ron

I initially read that wrong and was wondering how you were making a post...
And can officially confirm this game is an ass kicker played for several hours 400k top score. Those 7 digit displays are rarely going to use that 7th digit.
Also managed to win our state wide super league on Saturday, I encourage other states with lots of active locations to create one of these as getting together with so many pinheads from different areas was great.
Quoted from Tsskinne:Here is the post where he talks about them a bit and I believe he began to gather some orders from it as well.

I'll look into these, thanks for posting!

Yeah, when I saw that you converted Voltan to 7-digit I was thinking "that's ambitious, but maybe I suck at the game." Just not a lot of scoring or much to shoot for in general.

Yeah but think how pissed you would be if you do finally break that barrier and the fucking game doesn't show your high score haha. I guess my experience on Viking and Hotdoggin had me thinking I better convert this one, and it was just another skill I wanted to learn so I can chalk it up to a learning experience.

Okay getting closer. Now I’m convinced it’s at least possible.
Awesome work and thanks for sharing!
I got in the amuesment biz in 1981 after graduating and it's great to see you guys putting all this time and effort into the older pins that will live on for a long time to come.

...I was only -4 at that time, but I bet the prices were better
Tommy. My wife follows you on Facebook and told me about your Voltan restoration. Great job. I wish you and Taylor would record more often and talk about your travels. I’d love to have you on my podcast again to talk about all these games. Door is always open. Keep up the good work!

Anytime man, I'm too busy doing all that traveling to talk to Taylor. Let me know when and I'll try to be as flexible as I can be.
Streamed the game a bit tonight. Will try to do another one with some friends for some entertaining competition this week.
Finally made time to watch this. Great stream! Thanks for the in-depth rule/strategy explanation. There's more to Voltan than I initially gave it credit for. Very nice early SS flipper/nudging skills. And those inlanes! Did you pay Taylor extra to coat the rails with rubber to get so many bounce-ins?

Haha I actually made and clearcoated those ones myself. Yeah I streamed it again last night, the game really has a lot more strategy to it than I expected. I truly think it would make for a really good competition game especially because of the short ball times. A spinner could get you points quickly, but building up that bonus and getting your multiplier has a big payoff, and trying to drain to an outlane, I dunno man something about it is very addictive. Still trying to break that million!
If this thread has taught me anything, it is that I no longer have to remove the heads on new Stern games. Just turn them sideways. Mind blown.

Yep, I mean I wouldn’t want to store a game like that but 2-3 hour car ride with lots of padding no big deal.

There was a Voltan in the classics tournaments at INDISC in 2019. It was an ass kicker that only got picked in the final rounds twice during classics day 2 tournament.

Awesome, yeah the game can be absolutely brutal, but I tend to find those to be my favorites.
Dave and I had the opportunity to talk to Tommy about the restoration of this game and a variety of other topics on The Classic Pinball Podcast episode 64.1

To answer the question regarding the backglass and whose hand it is reaching down from the sky to assist Voltan: I belive it is the hand of god, that being the artist Dave Christensen himself.
