Quoted from lowepg:Well, the first rule of bubbles is they are hardest to be seen and nearly invisible from those in the middle of them.
Can you explain some more of the rules of bubbles so I understand how this is one?
Quoted from lowepg:Sure, here's a few bubble concepts... please tell me NONE of this sounds familiar:
"Greater fool" bubble theory
Greater fool theory portrays bubbles as driven by the behavior of a perennially optimistic market participants (the fools) who buy overvalued assets in anticipation of selling it to other speculators (the greater fools) at a much higher price. According to this unsupported explanation, the bubbles continue as long as the fools can find greater fools to pay up for the overvalued asset. The bubbles will end only when the greater fool becomes the greatest fool who pays the top price for the overvalued asset and can no longer find another buyer to pay for it at a higher price.
You are assuming people are buying these games as investments in a market, which I don't agree with.
Quoted from lowepg:You're right. "Bubble" does infer a sudden pop.
My main premise was that I dont believe we are seeing some big, lasting rebirth of pinball.
I went on to say I dont see it bursting anytime soon.
I do believe, just as we've seen a buildup over the last few years, we will see a decline as this generation of buyers stops buying....
So maybe not a bubble, but a balloon thats been pumped up extra big, but whose slow leak will eventually overtake the hotair get pumped-in in the future....
So it's not a bubble? This is why I am tired of the use of the term bubble. People use it interchangeably. So you believe it's a market that will grow and shrink?
Quoted from lowepg:No, someone asked for more "bubble terms" and I provided a humorous example.
Investment is certainly not why *I* buy or have interest in pinball machines. However, if you read these forums, I think you will have to agree that theory might apply to more people than you think.
Sure, there are people who buy them as investments (mainly NIB games). But I don't think the pinball market overall is in a speculator driven bubble. Which people love to call it.
