Anyone from Asheville? We are going soon, and have been there before. We have done the Biltmore and hiked Mt. Pisgah.
From locals, what should we not miss that may not be on the "touristy things to do"? We were at the drim circle last time, that was...interesting. LOL. We have some breweries lined up, and will probably hike Chimney Rock.
Just womndering what else we shouldn't miss. And yess, I am planning on visiting the Asheville Pinball museum.

Not a touristy idea, but if you're RVing or camping there's a nice couple that runs a place an hour from Asheville that I highly recommend.

The owners are BIG pinball fans.
Besides the pinball museum, Wicked Weed Brewing company and some good restaurants I was not feeling Downtown Ashville. Seemed very Bohemian, which is fine with me, but the folks hanging out on the street downtown make comments or talk to you as you walk by. I was disappointed with the downtown.
Sierra Nevada brewing is a treat. It has a great restaurant and music on the green.
One night me wife and I went to downtown Hendersonville nearby to eat and walk around. Cute town set up like it is from the past.
Breweries! They are everywhere. Certain parts of the city are awesome just to walk around and pop into all the different breweries and restaurants.
Thanks all! Yes, we already have reservations for New Belgian Brewery. Could not get the "insider" tour at Sierra Nevada, but will go for the reagular one anyway.
We have been to asheville before, but it was a while ago. Did Biltmore, and all the tourist stuff, was looking for some off the beaten path stuff this time

When I said breweries I meant the micro breweries. Burial, green man, highland, wicked weed, etc. Those are the spots you want to go to. Lots to walk around around those spots too.

Yes, Sierra Nevada a must.....even if you don't get the " full" tour, the mini one is cool...and the food is great in the restaurant ( reasonable priced) along w the beer....
Micro brews everywhere....I recommend HiWire...they've got a hidden spot on biltmore ave., behind golds gym.
The downtown culture is very artsy and safe, day and night, with some great food hidden away ( some amazing BBQ)
If you are coming in the Fall, make sure to get reservations wherever, as it gets busy. The Omni Grove Park Inn has spectacular views, and major league spa.
Biltmore village just south, lots of boutique shopping.

Also there is this amazing brunch place on a golf course. Cannot remember the name but it's the craziest buffet I've ever seen. Haha

That's at the Omni.....sick buffet...prime rib, real seafood ( believe it or not), and amazing desserts. Hard to beat that total experience....
Just driving the parkway is great fun, as well....

We were at Green Man and Wicked Weed last time we visited. They were both great (we ate at Wicked Weed twice)!. Some may contend it's not a micro brewery any longer, but I don't get into that argument.
I will check out Highland as I don't remember that one. Along with HiWire as Mik6Pin recommended.

Down towards Hendersonville, there are several wineries, Burnt Shirt Vineyards is a favorite.

South of Asheville is the small town of Saluda, which has a couple of great restaurants, and an authentic general store, right on Main Street. There is also a tubing and zipline adventure company in town.

An hour away is Greenville SC. (My home) Lots of restaurants, shopping, and outdoor adventures.

Come tour the BMW factory, or take the BMW driving course.
If you come in the late summer to fall, there are several orchards within an hour to pick your own apples and enjoy local jams, jellies, honey, and baked treats....
This one is on top of a mountain near Hendersonville:
They make fresh apple cider donuts with powdered sugar and cinnamon. They are to die for....

FYI my son is working there this summer with the driving instructors, he tells me that the factory tour is closed due to the factory upgrades and retooling that is going on.
Too bad because it really is a great tour.
