Man I always try to see the good in people. Reading this, I keep hoping that there is going to be some honest or logical explanation that shakes loose. It's one side of the story so far...and every story has two sides. But man oh man I don't know what explanation is going to make this one better.

Hopefully you're made whole darkknight. I know we've talked a few times and you're a good egg. And nobody deserves to be screwed out of cash like that.

Good, bad, or indifferent, this is a hobby that's largely based on trust. Anytime you buy anything from anyone except a dealer, that's what you rely on. A huge percentage of sales are done with cash and trust. It's been said a number of times that it's wise to have bills of sales, etc...but it doesn't happen as often as it should.

So things like this that fly against any reasonable trust really hurt the entire industry.

    Quoted from RavenBlackthorn:

What type of advice do you guys have for preventing this type of thing from happening? Do any of you have a hard and fast "I pick it up in person, inspect it before payment" kind of approach? Does anyone use "Pay by Credit Card through Paypal" approach so that you can dispute the charges? What do you guys recommend?

Lots of things, but the safest thing is either cash and carry or an escrow service.

Folks....this is a heck of a thread, and I absolutely feel for DK. Really really horrible thing to have happen, and not hearing from the other side is making things worse.

That said, Pinside doesn't condone violence. Please stop discussing "paying him a visit" or going on a trip with your friends "smith and wesson" or things like that. There are ways to properly get resolution. We get it, the OP has every reason to be pissed, but please folks...don't spout out suggestions to go beat someone up or worse. Let's support the OP, not offer options on how to get him incarcerated.

    Quoted from thedarkknight77:

Called the Indiana State police for advice. Hung up when they asked if I wanted to file a report. Shelburn is so small they don't have a Police Force. They roll up under Sullivan county. This is no mans land.

Seems silly to me. Why wouldn't you file a report regardless of what jurisdiction?

    Closed at OP's request.
