So it wasn't really on "MY" ring camera? This is just a random ring video of someone stealing a battery and you posted it on a pinball website why? Ohhhh Ok, off topic forum. I see. Way off topic! LOL

    Quoted from mnpinball:

Just installed a Ring system at my place, doorbell, front and back building. System is great.

Our Ring doorbell is horrible. On the off chance that when the doorbell rings, I pull out my phone, get the app fired up on my slow as hell Samsung S7, look to see my door and the person is actually still there... the intercom part of it has never worked right. The visitor can usually hear me but I can never hear them.

Almost always when I get a notification on my phone and finally get the live view up, the people are long gone. Usually driving away or walking away near the end of the long driveway.

The only people who stick around long enough for my Ring to actually work the way its advertised are the people I don't want to see or hear from anyway! The damned church people and the solicitors.

I also hate that my doorbell has a monthly (or annual) fee. I'm sure someone will figure out a way to tack on a monthly fee to my toaster and coffee maker soon. Yes, I can opt out of that recording function but then the ring is just a very expensive doorbell that doesn't work well. At least if I pay the annual fee, I can ALMOST see who came to my house while I was away.

Need a cheap but awesome wifi security camera with pan/tilt/zoom & 2 way intercom? I got one of these from wish.com and installed it yesterday. I expected it to be just "ok" but it's so good that I ordered 2 more for other areas of the property.

    https://www.wish.com/product/5ce51898a19f237af4553ca4

If you're away, it texts you when it detects motion. Through the app on your phone, you can instantly talk to whoever is at your home while you see them on camera. This is a lot more useful, reliable & a lot cheaper than a Ring doorbell. Keep your old doorbell and get one of these cameras instead! It's just $42 (+ shipping) with a 64gb memory card. $28 without memory card and you can sign up for $3/month cloud storage instead (this would be stupid IMHO).

It is wifi and controlled with a phone app but can also send a signal to something larger than a phone via cat/5 cable. Gone is the need for a central DVR and monitor attached to wired cameras that squirrels inevitably chew the wires on.

I know I sound like an advertisement! I get nothing if you buy one. I'm posting this because these things are THAT good20200215065500_20200215070000_0_thumb (resized).jpg20200215065500_20200215070000_0_thumb (resized).jpg.

    Quoted from Londonpinball:

You gave the pictures to the cops ?
    Cops hate dealing with crime.

Especially, completely avoidable, petty crime like some dumba$$ homeowner leaving a battery in plain view, in his driveway that of course, eventually gets stolen by some brokea$$ punk for the $5 or $10 recycle fee at walmart so he can buy a pack of smokes.

Similar to people not locking their car doors when parked at home in their driveway and then calling police because someone "broke into their car" and stole something. LOL

    Cops can't fix stupid.

    Quoted from CrazyLevi:

So you are calling the OP stupid because he left an ancient, dead battery in his driveway to use as a chock for his trailer?
    Seems a little overboard.

No Levi. Stupid and dumba$$ are very different. Stupid is not being smart enough to realize something you did could have negative repercussions. Like, if the OPs trailer was on a steeper incline and when the thief removed the $10 junk battery and the heavy trailer rolled down the driveway and smashed into the thieves vehicle. THAT would be stupid.

Dumba$$ is doing something knowing it could and probably would have negative repercussions... but you do it anyway. Like using a battery as a wheel chock.

I don't think the op is stupid.

    Quoted from Jasenwm:

People have no accountability. People need to help themselves instead of expecting the police to solve every problem that can be prevented with a little effort by them.

    THIS!

    Quoted from flynnibus:

Theft does not require 'breaking and entering'
    Theft is theft.

Agreed BUT an unlocked car door is an invitation to a thief. You can't expect the cops to care about a theft if you invite the thief to steal your stuff.

    #148 4 years ago
    Quoted from flynnibus:

he's not expecting some jackoff to come and swipe it.

If that is true then maybe he IS stupid? With all the porch pirate videos and car break ins on the news and FB and youtube, it's impossible to NOT think it could happen to you. To a thief, It's a $10 bill laying unattended in a driveway.

    #154 4 years ago
    Quoted from Yelobird:

Sorry completely ridiculous view. Why not steal the trailer too

Your chair is safe because it can't be taken to walmart and quickly traded for a $10 bill with no questions asked. Petty thieves are opportunists. He saw the battery as he drove by, looked at his gas gauge, noticed it was on "E", snagged the battery and traded it for $10 at walmart, got 3 gallons of gas.

Even when caught redhanded and confronted by the "victim". What were his consequences? Nothing. Not a punch in the face, a slashed tire, a smashed windshield and doubtfully, a visit from the cops.

    Quoted from Dee-Bow:

My truck was stolen last week. Are you suggesting i invited them to steal it because i may of accidentally left a door unlocked?

Yes, if the doors were unlocked, you invited them inside. If you left your keys in it then absolutely YES, you invited them to take it. I wouldn't even call that stealing. I'd call that borrowing or just taking.

I doubt they were specifically targeting your exact make and model. They took it because you made it easy for them and they needed a ride home. Sorry but true.
