Built a Scared Stiff, a Dennis Nordstrom masterpiece, completely from parts this winter. (No donor pin used). NLA parts that were handmade include wire harnesses, ball guides / metal parts, plastic subway, light insert panel/plastics and back board. Fab’d dancing boogie men and lighted skull pile. Lamp boards were used from other pins, some modified, for any that were unavailable. Measured all guides, backbox mounting plate and have them in CAD if anyone needs them. Laser cut from 18ga stainless by HeMan40 (Dino) then I bent with a small brake and hand tools.
Painted and decaled the head/cab last summer. Local dude, Bill Webb built the sweet bare cab. More pics on my OneDrive https://tinyurl.com/y536wr62
Wouldn’t be possible without these most excellent parts suppliers- Pinball Life, Marco, Mirco, MantisA, PSPA, PPS/BAA, SF, PB Inc, PBits, Cliffy, MrP, Arakissun. Thank you IPDB for archiving parts lists, manuals, ROM images.

Quoted from CrazyLevi:

Curious what it costs to do this (man hours not included of course)
What was the BOM?!?!

Hey Crazy
Around $5500.
I generally start looking for parts a year in advance of starting so I run into some really sweet deals. For example, the cab/head decals were $100, the power transformer was $80, and a complete wiring harness (from a different WPC-95 pin) was $50. Great deals are always found at the pinball shows. I restore many used parts like the coin door, pop mechs, sling mechs, flipper mechs and targets. If you want all new parts and you want them tomorrow, costs will be substantially higher.

Great job once again Wally! You are an inspiration not only to me but many others!
It was nice running into you at TPF.

Hey Steve
Likewise, one of my high points at TPF.

Quoted from Coz:

So you spent $5500 in parts. How many hours did it take to complete? Did you document the time to build? Amazing job on the finished pin.

Hey Coz
Don't keep track of time too much. Love every aspect of this hobby from looking for parts, to sanding/painting, making parts that aren't available, building wire harnesses, bending metal, everything.
Maybe 1000 hrs?

Well damn that’s nice! How many games did you biuild from scratch already?

Hey Ar
Two MMs, an AFM, a CC, a MB, and SS. Pics at " There's one more ....."

Quoted from ForceFlow:

How do you color your wire, or where do you get your colored wire?

Hey FF
BAA has a nice selection of color coded wire in 18 ga and 22 ga. 10 foot lengths.
I have also striped wire using a tool that my son made (and granddaughter painted) The tracer is functional but does not look original without the spiral. Rubber band keeps a little pressure on the pen. Solid color wire is available at McMaster.
Every so often, reasonably priced WPC and WPC-95 harnesses are for sale on Ebay or shows. Usually $50 or less.

Fantastic! That's a TON of dedication right there!
Here's the big question - what serial number are you going to give it?

Hey Rob
Thanks.
The A/V board that you installed the SMD's is presently in my MM. Check out https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/there-s-one-more-wpc-95-a-v-board

Hey wally did you purchase my FB a few years ago and make it into the MM? I know the person that picked it up said they were going to do that, and then was starting to think it was you - your threads are fun to read regardless. Louisville

Hey Coz
Thanks.
Turned yours into an AFM. https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/theres-one-more-afm

Cool!!Awesome job.
Great project to pick. Bigger challenge with some of those game specific parts to overcome.

Hey, thanks, Chris.
I referenced your wonderful website gallery photos often when building SS. I especially like some of the teardown photos in the Past Restoration Gallery. Most helpful. It is great that you continue to make these available.

Quoted from cottonm4:

This statement confuses me. What is the tracer and what the spiral?

Hey Cotton
What I meant is that the tool puts on the stripe in a straight line on the wire different than commercially available wire where the stripe kinda' spirals around the wire. I use the words tracer and stripe interchangeably. Probably should stick with one.
This is an example of wire available at BAA. http://bayareaamusements.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=HA-30022-08

Quoted from cottonm4:

Thanks. What are you using? Is that an acrylic paint pen and you just pull the wire through?
That is a cool tool.
I love stringing wire.

Yep, just pull the wire through. Rubber band keeps a little pressure on the pen. Small hole is at a 90 from pen hole and just slightly larger than 18ga wire so that it can be used for 18ga and 22ga. Paint pen is oil based.

Most retirees just sit around the house, drink beer and watch soaps.
Not fucking Wally. OH NO!!!!!! He builds pinball machines from scratch.
I wish you lived closer. I wouldn't sit around the house so much....or drink so much beer....or watch so many soaps.

Yep, wish that I lived closer also. Maybe I'll move to Mn, getting a little tired of the snow and cold here around Chicago.

Boy I would like to get a glimpse at your notes on those wiring harnesses.... those harnesses must have been a nice chunk of 1000 hrs!

Hey W166
Uploaded the SS wiring notes to my Onedrive. http://tinyurl.com/y4s729vw
Corrected some errors in the manual. (Hope that you can decipher my scribbling)

Will CGC make Scared Stiff after the rumored Cactus Canyon Remake?
CGC should probably do a Medieval Madness Remake re-release. Wally made it twice.
Are you CGCs market research?
Does CGC pay you?
What’s next? Anything?
We need to know what’s coming!

Hey HeMan
Merely a coincidence. I would like to build a TAF one of these years.

Quoted from lordloss:

Where did you get the wire that you paint? Do you have a part number?
I like the painted wire approach as the baa wire is too spendy

Hey LL
I order hook up wire from Mcmaster Carr. https://www.mcmaster.com/hook-up-wire 8054T13 (22 ga) or 8054T15 (18 ga) There are no doubt better places but it seems like I always need something else from Mc so it is added to my order. They ship really quick, also.
I like using the BAA wire on above playfield wiring or other highly visible areas just because it looks so good.
