Welcome back Pat Lawlor! I can't wait to see what you have up your sleeve for the new original theme you are designing for JJP.

Looking back at his previous games I think he has done some strong and unusual original themes in the past:
    http://www.ipdb.org/search.pl?searchtype=advanced&ppl=Pat%20Lawlor

Any idea what he might come up with for this new game?

I am thinking that Twilight Zone and RBION could be the first two of a "trilogy of the bizarre and unexplained". Some sort of freak show, escaped mental patient, psychic chupacabras-gone-wild thing?

Or maybe a Bermuda Triangle theme -- that sort of fits in with Earthshaker and Whirlwind too and I think it would be cool.

Idk about the theme but hope it plays like TAF had a baby with TZ

What will we know first? The theme or the pre order details?

    #4 5 years ago

Or it could be the third in the talking head series....

Funhouse, Roadshow and the new Return to the Amusement Park.

    #5 5 years ago

Will it have an upper flipper jackpot shot?

    #8 5 years ago

    TAF2

    #9 5 years ago

Yes, buddy, The Ultimate 3 - headed Pin!....Red & Ted and their son Rudy all on the same playfield.!
-Name- "Road House" or "Roadshow to the Funhouse"
    -THEME -
This time, they are going cross-country in a 18 wheeler, to get to the Roadhouse in LA in California. Along the way, they will be bitching and complaining to each other, stopping at dive bars, eating at nasty diner's, sleeping in seedy hotels, running over hitch-hikers, parking at truck stops, complete with rude comments and insults to the player/player's playing the game.!!

Thing's get really interesting once Rudy develop's a nasty drug habit along the way......more to come.

He's done Earthshaker and Whirlwind...how about something with fire. You know...Earth, Wind and Fire collection

    #12 5 years ago

    Haunted house.

    #13 5 years ago

Well TAF and TZ are not original themes. I vote for Demolition Derby.

    #14 5 years ago

Some cool ideas here - if Pat doesn't do these maybe someone else will.

LOL I am worried about Rudy though. I guess it wasn't an easy life living in the Funhouse with people smacking the ball into you all the time.

I have to think whatever Pat does will be loaded with cool new toys. First use of superconductors to make the ball levitate?

    #15 5 years ago

How about something with dragons and zombies and dire wolves. Kings and queens fighting for a throne. Just don't call it Game of Thrones. Now that would really be like an old school "original" nonlicensed theme.

    #16 5 years ago

Alright let's get this thread back on the right track...

Licensed Theme - Doesn't "original" imply no license?
Sequel - Can you get less "original" ?
Dark Theme - That's not Lawlor. If he did a dark theme it would be very tongue in cheek.

Pat's tendency is to be funny and unique, here's to hoping he really does stretch the boundaries of technology in the process. That all being said, Pat has done a good job with licensed themes in the past, but I think we can all agree an unlicensed original is long overdue.

    Quoted from ChadH:

    Haunted house.

I hope that rumor is true. It doesn't have to be Texas Chainsaw like, and we know it won't, but I'd be happy with a Disney Haunted Mansion level style, something spooky would rule.

I also don't understand why a pinball company announces they're doing an original theme, something we see damn little of these days, and all anyone can say is "I hope it's the sequel to X!" Save that rehash crap for Hollywood man, let's see something new.

You know what would be epic? A real table based on his virtual pro pinball tables:

    #20 5 years ago

OK I think we have the theme figured out: a house that is haunted not by ghosts but by wizards... Chupacabra Wizards!

It will have three levitating Chupacabra Wizard heads on the playfield:
    1) makes snide remarks when you miss a shot
    2) complains about global warming
    3) randomly bursts into flames during the game

    Quoted from doughslingers:

Or it could be the third in the talking head series....
Funhouse, roadshow and the new Return to the Amusement Park.

Wouldn't Ripleys be the 3rd head pin? The shrunken head talks to the player during the game, but its not animated.

Damn, if JJP announced Pat Lawlor's Haunted Wizards I'd be in.

    Science fiction theme ?

    #26 5 years ago

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Actually that could probably be a damn cool theme.

    #27 5 years ago

    Bikini babes from outer space

    #28 5 years ago

Rudy's House of Horrors or Rudy's Haunted Funhouse would be cool!

    #29 5 years ago

I think a 50's Sci-Fi theme would be really cool. Similar to CFTBL, but without the drive-in movie theatre part.

    #30 5 years ago

So long as its deeper than monopoly...

    #31 5 years ago

Have to think it will be a theme where they can really take advantage of the LCD, and have lots of mechanical toys, both of those would fit a haunted house pin perfectly. Of course, there are a lot of other themes that could equally benefit form the JJP treatment.

Consider this anecdotal evidence, rumor is that PL has been on board since spring 2013, have to assume he's had an idea on the theme since then as well, and we've heard that Charlie from Spooky Pinball and Jack have had a falling out, possibly because they are doing the America's Most Haunted, would make a lot of sense if Pat was already working on a HH theme.

    #32 5 years ago

I hope it's trains. And if not, I hope Python comes out of nowhere with a train themed machine one day.

    #33 5 years ago

    I'm guessing something space/sci fi.

    #34 5 years ago

I thought Williams slapped a patent on the pin-mation talking head that is Rudy. Would Lawlor be given permission to use it again since he and Estes were with Williams?

    #35 5 years ago

Addams Family Values, the pin would be great! I have an Addams Family Redemption game, actually two!

    #36 5 years ago

Whatever it is I just hope its "EPIC"
In all seriousness though...It could be my first NIB game. I think Pat is going to knock it out of the park.

It would likely be expired by now.

Even if there was one, design patent lasts 14 years, utility patent lasts 20 (unless williams makes an improvement and renews the patent with an improvement, which they wouldn't since they don't make pinball). My guess is a talking head in pinball is up for grabs.

    Nascar 2: Electric Boogaloo

    #40 5 years ago

I wouldn't mind a very complex pirate theme.

    #41 5 years ago

I think something with the pyramids and mummies would be cool.

    #42 5 years ago

    worst thread ever.

    #44 5 years ago

A pinball machine based off Internet Dating!

One of the few non-licensed themes that would pique my interest.

If he built the game we all asked for it would be like the Homer. So I hope he build the game he wants to make.

I really like the haunted house theme idea.

If TAF had a baby with TZ, wouldn't that be incest?
