I'm getting my TOM ready for sale/trade, and when I powered it up yesterday, the top half of the DMD displays noise / junk characters. The bottom half appears to be displaying properly. I cleaned all the contacts, plugs, etc., and got the same thing. Replaced the cable and swapped in a spare DMD and it does the same thing. When I put the first DMD into my Champion Pub, it seems fine.

Any thoughts or advice?

Try reconnecting the connectors,

Have you checked the DMD driver board? That could be going bad.

Taken em out, blasted them with air and wiped them. It was a little dustier than usual in the cabinet, but nothing too heavy.

That's my fear. Weird that it's just half the the DMD though. Usually things like that are a fried pin, but I'm at the limit of my expertise.

I would replace the ribbon cables first.

Try and swap it with the one in champion pub. I had a gilligans that was displaying mostly garbage but still had picture. It had to be rebuilt. My boss did it as I’m newer to board work but that’s what I’d put money on it being.

Have you run the display test. Did it pass? If not, i would suspect the RAM needs to be replaced.

There was a fried spec of something on one end of the ribbon cable. I replaced it and it works now. I'm not sure what exactly would burn it at that end, but at least I can see the diagnostic to help repair the rest of it. Thanks!
