There is a switch in the subway that the ball triggers when it comes out of the trunk, if this isn't being triggered/doesn't work the machine will just think a ball has got into the trapdoor and will eject it, check this 1st, switch number 47 on page 2-43 of the manual.
Recently I replaced the balls in my taf and lah with premium balls for games with magnets and they get flipped around at least twice as much as the old balls. I wonder if new balls may have an effect on TOM ball save?
