What a hobby

#53 3 years ago
Quoted from Lostcause:

My $20 Lucille baseball bat with blood and hair was a bargain but no flashing lights!
Bonus is if someone pisses me off I can rip it off
One fish tank is enough on mine.
[quoted image]

And yours looks more creative and unique than something that looks like it was bought at Spirit Halloween for $99.99 and just set on top as an afterthought.

...AND YOU SAVED $2,480!!!

#55 3 years ago

My god how long is this insanity going to continue?

Selling all 3 toppers for 10k cash and a box of vhs porn.

I bet it sells for $1000.

My guess is 1k+, but not 2k. I wouldn't pay that, but some people in pinball have deep pockets or just a mentality that they need to complete their game.

When I thought I was the biggest idiot to buy the topper for my JP LE , I should have bought all 3 they had in stock. Shit it could have funded my new PIN.

A few pals said I was crazy to spend $599 for it....but it has become cool to look up at and see what letter I am on to activate the goat mode...which is not easy.

I Bought the GOT topper as it was cool with the dragon, plus my fav tv show of all time . I had to buy the PIN. LOL. I play it more than any of my other pins.

yet the walking dead topper doesnt do shit but look nice. the light effects are 3 out of 10
the interaction 3 out of 10. it doesnt do anything even 500.00 special.

Very True....my 3 toppers all do something...cray cray...

Black Knight is one kick ass topper.

Iv never really understood these toppers (maybe ones that have extra lights that show mode progression or being used as a dlc dongle) but the ones which are just plastic and lights, i just don't see any value at all. Just bought a MMR and it came with a king of pain topper and looks pretty cool and has a proper interactive light show (whole new pcb to drive it) but wouldn't care if it was not there. So how shit like this is worth $2500 is freaking insane and you would literally have to be on crack and spend your crack money to pay that for one. I swear stern could just shit in a plastic dome and sell 100 of them as toppers for $1000 as they are super rare and a official stern product!!!!! stuff like this is the whole reason these companies get away shitting all over us with there prices, because a few stupidly buy this shit at stupid prices.

Weren’t these $400 retail?

Yes, which is why all these over priced toppers are bull. This crap has caused Stern to charge more up front since they see dummies paying double or more on the aftermarket. My 2 cents, anyway.

You can't blame Stern for raising their prices. The aftermarket pricing made them realize that they were leaving money on the table. It's called capitalism.

#79 3 years ago

I don’t blame stern at all. They are a smart business.

Toppers are thousands cuz of dumb buyers overpaying and le models are 9000 cuz people were paying 10-11k for AC/DC le.

Although stern has left money on the table multiple times. Their runs of toppers seem strange. They wait till a game has been out for a year or more, then they do a very short run. Prices aside, you'd think they would keep them in stock at least as long as they will building new machines.

Good point, Dung. Seems like they'd rather make less and charge an outrageous price rather than making maybe a boatload for a popular pin at a reasonable price and maybe make more money. Granted, logistically easier to sell less items. But on the flip side, drives the NRE way up.

For all we know, they could farm out the topper for the design and Stern simply approves the design. I almost think that happens on some toppers, given the number of faulty Munsters toppers.
