Quoted from gweempose:

My gut tells me that Borg had much bigger plans for the prison, but he was forced to scrap them. It's easy to assume that is was done for budgetary reasons, by I'm guessing it was due to time constraints.

This is the part about Stern that just drives me NUTS. You have a great license and could blow it out of the water with SOMETHING unique. The prison could have/should have been the wow factor focal point of this pin.

I still love the whole package but seriously, wtf! Maybe Stern does need to get into other areas besides pinball. I'm thinking DP, Jpop and JJP are just going to kick their ass going forward.

Quoted from Rum-Z:

Now there's an idea! That would have indeed been awesome!

I suggested this right after the game was released. TWD pro is pretty basic when it comes to any types of "features" to be honest with you. Other than the doors opening on the prison, its pretty bare of neat gizmos.

I shot a few pinball videos at SS Billiards today. Here is a quick game of The Walking Dead Pro.

I haven't played a stern that I REALLY love yet. Had a met pro. Sold it. Haven't missed it for 1 second.

Quoted from MnHotRod:

A friend of mine doesn't get online much, but he sent a review of TWD after ten or fifteen games. Here it is.
The Walking Dead - Game is pretty damn fun. So many people complaining based on a couple of bad videos are gonna be kicking themselves. The game has a couple of "easy" shots like the ramps that set up for cool combos. Good design by STERN to have it that way - making the set-up easy and the payout a little more challenging is addicting and kept me wanting to hit the start button. The lighting is great - the white LEDs are perfect. I don't think I'm going to worry about adding color LEDs - if I do they'll be extremely limited - the white just looks really good with the rest of the game and the theme. Surprisingly the game doesn't feel like it has too much stop and go even with all the shots to the pop bumpers. The ball goes to them frequently but doesn't stay up there too long and 99% of the time returns nicely to the left flipper where you can catch it or do a dead pass and bounce it over to the right flipper. It's actually pretty cool - if you're planning ahead you can decide what to do with balls exiting the bumpers for either setting up a left or right flipper shot - this was one of my concerns initially from seeing the layout - I prefer games where I can plan a shot with either flipper to get the ball to that other flipper - the pop bumpers let you do that. The game also have a neat feature where the inlane light if lit, multiplies your next shot by 2X. Talk about wanting to make that combo count - or time it with a super jackpot shot. The other modes are gonna be pretty cool too - there's plenty of inserts to differentiate between them and even though there are not a ton of shots it feels like there are plenty so that you're not just hammering away over and over again for the modes. Some people have commented that playing the game feels like you're just banging the ball around - I've found after each shot there's a tactical decision you can make on your next - the inserts are doing a great job with those limited shots in giving you direction on what you really should go for - hell, each of the main shots has four, yes four, inserts indicating which shots are now important. Still getting an understanding on how some of the rules work, but so far it's really fun. Can only imagine when everything is finalized. The other thing that I'm really enjoying is the multi-balls are easy to get, but don't necessarily give you the most points. Most of my big games where with going deep into a mode before starting multi-ball - I think this was important for them to get right, too many other STERN games where it seems like your best point strategy is just for going for the multi-balls, over and over and over again. This game is definitely going to reward the player that knows the rules on the machine and what to do.
The playfield is much better in person too - the flyer they posted makes the zombies by the flippers look like they have a blue hue - the real playfield is much cleaner with more greys that better fit the theme and don't contrast negatively with the red plastics and blood. Overall the colors in general just look better in person.
The dots are awesome. Watching them while my wife played was really fun. STERN got creative in the way they used zombies in the pinball world. Can't wait to see more of them. Adding heads to the fish tank especially had some cool dots. I thought the audio was good too - the background music is slightly different that the show, but a little faster to add some more tension. The sound FX are good, the voice call-outs aren't bad - yeah, everyone is bitching about how they didn't get the original guy to do the voice overs, but really, really, they're voices aren't really that great anyway - when you isolate them and listen to them on TV and then try to picture that on a pinball machine it's probably going to sound lame anyway. What I do hope is that they add a lot more call outs, as they are feeling like they got a little repetitive. As for the southern drawl for the audio callouts - well, the show does take place in the south, doesn't it?
A couple of things I didn't like - The start button is green - that should definitely have been red and will be swapped out! The inner orbit sometimes when hit really clean, bounces back down the inner orbit instead of going into the pops. A clean hit through the right orbit followed by a fast hit to the right ramp caused an airball once - could need a cover eventually. The extra ball is automatically redeemed on your next ball through the plunger lane - technically as long as you don't get the extra ball lit on your last ball you're going to get it without even having to shoot for it. Seems kinda dumb to make a shot for the extra ball if that's the way it's coded..
Overall, it's different from the pins I usually gravitate towards and is a nice complement in my line-up that already centers heavily on flow. Combine that with a theme my wife and I really enjoy and good lighting and music and I think we'll be playing it for a while.
With the LE's being so much more, I decided to stick with the Pro but plan adding some mods that are going to rival the LEs: Lighted fish tank with heads (may not be interactive but will look just as cool), upgrade to the prison roof top, as mentioned before - a RED start button, some more blood splatter decals on the clear plastics, zombie heads and bodies underneath the left ramp, maybe a couple of red spot lights near the back to add a deathly feel effect, katana stickers maybe on the flippers? Imagine simple line art of katanas printed on clear stuck to the flippers, each flick of the flipper you're chopping at the zombies attacking you on the playfield - minimal but cool? Zombie head shooter rod - or what about a shotgun shell shooter rod - firing the ball off?

You forgot to include:

Sincerely,

Gary Stern

Don't like the "whole product", don't buy it "Ladies"……….

Please stop it with the blatant use of "ladies" as a derogatory term around here. I'm pretty lenient on you guys in general, but lately there's been a huge influx of female bashing, tons of people reporting it, and we've already had 2 female Pinsiders leave the forum in the last month due to bullying and sexism.
I don't understand how sexist terms are any less worse that racist remarks and all the other non-allowed terms on here. I'm not trying to grab a soap box and start preaching anything, but as one of approximately a dozen active females on here, I want you all to know it is pretty offensive and does get really old really fast.

There was a better egg? I've been a member since 2009 and was on RGP since 2005. He's never been 'upbeat'. Are we missing sumpthing?

This I have to agree with. I think it's funny when ice makes those comments, it's all in good fun. People are to PC these days, you can't even joke around anymore.

If a woman farts & drinks good beer then her girlfriends might giggle & call her a man

If a man drinks Pinot & wears a pastel yellow polo his buddies might laugh & call him a lady

That's not the same as hateful nasty racism

Quoted from Pdxmonkey:

Most people haven't hence the two thumbs up and not 120. Anyway, maybe I've been a little negative lately so I'll cool it.

That being said, NOT being able to say "ladies?" Are you F'ing serious? If the two female members can't take it we don't need them. There will be plenty more women who will be interested in pinball that CAN handle it. Stop trying to police everything.

Life isn't fair and the quicker you realize that the stronger you will be. Sick of it.

I'm no longer saying anything negative about a game you like again. This is far more important than pinball.

Blondetall has been a straight shooter and a strong moderator. This isn't us vs them but a fellow Pinsider pointing out an uncomfortable comment.

I haven't seen any threats or sexism here, and I know, as I'm a total sexist,

But if Blondetall is bothered we should find out why and try to accommodate. If we can't accommodate then at least we can discuss.

Otherwise boys will be boys. No fairness there. Sorry ladies. That's nature.

But we don't have to be total dicks either.

Yeah, I guess on a public forum where the # 1 community rule is to be nice, it's just too much of me to ask for people to actually play nice. I mean, we females are obviously just asking for it by hanging out in a male-dominated hobby. But honestly, the ones of us that are active here know what we're getting into and let things slide. Men will be men. And I surely don't go around editing posts or sending warnings for sexist comments. You all should know that by now. But with people actually leaving the forum because of it and multiple reports daily from plenty of males, I thought I'd post a reminder.

In case anyone missed the community rules link, I'll just paste some of it here for you:
Rule number one: be nice!
It's really simple, when you're on the Pinside, try to be nice to others and you'll find that they'll generally be nice to you to.

Keep your contributions civil, tasteful and relevant (on the subject of pinball). The aim of Pinside.com: to provide the best place on the web for people who love pinball!

Multiple identities are not allowed on Pinside.com.

Pinside.com is meant to be a supportive and friendly place, so please help to keep it that way.

This is remarkably off the mark in my opinion.
Comparing his use of the term "ladies" in the context that he was using it to racism? Really?

The only reason I even knew about it was because of multiple reports on this thread. I quoted it here because it was used twice in this thread and multiple other threads. Want to know how many reports I got on this thread: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/pinball-f-ing-porn-ladies

And don't worry. We've got plenty of people messaging us defending their rights to be as racist, sexist, political, etc as they want to be here also. So if anyone wants to join in with their opinions, feel free to start a moderator feedback thread.

Well, I've broken about 9 out of 11 of those content parts listed so far.

C'mon guys, it's Blondetall, not some feminist spewing pita.

Really is going to be cool to see The Hobbit, TBL, and TWD at the expo this week. Would be cool to see TWDLE and THLE side by side for comparisons since they cost nearly the same. And I don't expect literally side by side. I mean pics, videos etc. I am a Walking Dead fan and TWD looks nice to me.

#76 9 years ago

Someone said v1.06 may have been installed on a game at the York show. Hoping we see a code update early this week.

#77 9 years ago

I was told at the show that the TWD Pro there had v1.06 installed. I haven't played one yet (didn't feel like waiting in line to play with a line behind me and all that nonsense) but I watched a little and thought I saw some stuff on the DMD that I didn't remember seeing in any of the v1.05 gameplay videos I watched online.

#78 9 years ago

Wow. Three updates in a week. Great promise on updates so far.

Yeah, a vari-target in there would have been neat. Good DMD animation to match the position, use it for other mode stuff, good idea.

Ha, good one. . But if you look at Metallica, or AC/DC, which are very popular, what vast array of gizmos are on those machines that are any better than TWD? I personally think TWD is going to end up being a very popular and code rich machine. All Stern pro machines have two maybe three 'gizmos', this one is no different.

Settle down, its not meant as a "derogatory" term towards "ladies". Since I'm married with 3 girls, trust me, there is no "sexism" in my family, not that I care what you think. And I'm not about to post to a "moderator forum" here because someone called me a sexist and a racist on this board and I want my response on the record. I know you aren't implying that I have been directly sexist and bullied some female member on Pinside? Although that is what you seem to be implying. If so, that's RIDICULOUS, and not factual.

For the record, my girls play volleyball, and they always use the phrase "let's go ladies", and I like it. When we are going out somewhere and one of them is lagging behind, its "let's go ladies".

I'm also sick of this PC nonsense. What a JOKE. It's not sexist and to compare it to racism. That's OFFENSIVE, and your soap box has just gotten really old fast and certainly very offensive.

Now, back to talking about TWD Ladies, how about that…….

#88 9 years ago
Quoted from iceman44:

back to talking about TWD Ladies

Without Carol last night, Rick, Bob, Glenn and Daryl would be dead.

#89 9 years ago

I honestly wasn't trying to compare it to racism, and looking back wouldn't have put that in there. The point I was trying to make is that anything that is considered racist around here is immediately removed and moderated, while day after day, thread after thread, sexist remarks fly and seem to be encouraged. There's a certain line that we don't let people cross, but sexism doesn't factor in. It does get really old really fast, but again, I'm used to it from you all and don't normally moderate it.

The main reason for the posting was a reminder that we're supposed to play nice around here, and if there's constant behavor that is being reported and people are leaving because of it, then as a moderator I'm supposed to be doing something about it by at least educating people of it. We're asking people to think before they post something on a public forum and treat each other with respect. And anyone that wants to discuss this further can PM me or start a moderator feedback thread so that this thread can continue on topic.

Edit... Ice... stop editing your post and maybe you'll get a proper response since you've changed your message 3 times now. PM me if you want. If you want a public record, then start a separate public thread on it if you want to. Again, I showed up to this thread on a direct report to your post. I personally have not been stalking to you to know what you are or are not doing, but with mutiple reports from people regarding the degrogatory use of the term "ladies," then that's what I was addressing since there was a prime example to show. You're certainly not the only one on this forum that's ever posted anything controversial or sexist, otherwise I would have just messaged you instead of making a public statement. Basically pick any thread and you'll find someone posting boob pics, demeaning women on calendars, etc. It was a public call to draw attention to an issue and ask people to think before they post and be nice, done as a moderator and not as a pissed off female. Believe me, if I couldn't handle the heat, I would have left this forum a long time ago.

Yes, thank you, after Rick threw her to the curb!

Great start to the show. Where are they heading next? Gets me excited for the pin.

Seeing the pin giveaways as part of the show leaves me hopeful that AMC does really care about the product and we may get some good voice work.

I did PM you and yes I edited my message to accurately reflect my thoughts. I just don't believe comparing "racism" to "sexism", especially with a group of 99.9% men is appropriate. <edited>

...so back to the thread - Been putting a lot of plays on it since it arrived at the house on Saturday. The outlanes are VICIOUS. This is not a game that you want to let the ball get out of control. I closed the outlanes up to the close setting yesterday, and its still 1.5" from the edge of the rubber to the edge of the rubber. Its been frustrating to see so many drain out. However, I think its appropriate to the theme. Endless zombie killing isn't what TWD is all about. Survival is the name of the game, and there might be better ways of making you feel desperate, but shitting your pants every time the ball even gets near the outlanes sure is one way to get the job done. This game is definitely giving me "just one more-itis"

I've also got some kind of mental block going on where I'm visually convinced I've got a right slant to my level, but then check it in 3 different places and its all good, and if anything is a hair to the left.

The outlines are VICIOUS.

This makes me kind of happy. I enjoy having some games in my collection like IM that are fast and brutal. Even STLE, while fast, has pretty long ball times. Sounds like TWD will fit into my collection nicely.

#97 9 years ago

Is does kind of go with the survival aspect of the game. Make good shots, control the ball and you live to fight another day!

Heeeeeehaaawwwww!! This here's are right mighty fine pinball doohickey! Grab your banjo and kill some zombeez!
Please fix the idiotic VO.

Painfully true. Who would buy a TAF, LOTR, TSPP, etc if the voices were generic?

Yes, I know future software releases might fix that... but was TSPP released with generic Homer voices when it came out? I'm guessing no.

#99 9 years ago

Honest question about "authentic voices". Does the room feel that the video game version of The Walking Dead isn't authentic because it doesn't follow the show? After playing a bunch, I don't mind the redneck voice. I think He actually sounds somewhat like Shane from the show. The part I dislike is the tone he's taking. He's somewhere in between Shane's voice, and Merle's sass. With a bit too much sass in my opinion. As soon as I get some code, I'll try swapping out some sounds.

We're all complaining about it, but we also all say we love Merle. But he was often very inappropriate with his tone and remarks...

Again I speak up on this constantly I love The Walking Dead Show. I know their voices and associate that with their characters. Anything else is not the same I don't care how close it is(I think of BDK pinball, close matches, but far enough away from actual that it was a detriment, not a help). Either they use it and it matches or they do their own, which if they do I just think needs more "depth" and exciting gloom/horror to it. I don't want the Walking Dead to be light hearted, funny voices. I want them to be powerful, darker, "oh my god, zombies are coming" voices. The playfield, dots are all darker, zombie killing death and guts, make the call outs match that. Strong call outs with excitement to them!

Merle brings humor and that voice to the show but also has MANY quotes in the show of ass kicking survivors, like many of them are.
