    Quoted from gottliebgreg:

After reading through this entire thread, it amuses me the gymnastics the PHOF cheerleaders go through justifying Tim's shitty behavior. In my experiences with him, direct and observed, he has been a jerk. If he didn't have his arcade, no-one would want to be around him at all.

I don't understand why people think Tim needs to be a "likable guy" - Tim could give a "rats ass" what anyone thinks of him - his mission has always been to "share his collection while raising money for charity". Tim isn't looking for new friends - Tim really doesn't seem to like people much at all from everything I have read about him. But it is hard to dispute he has done well over the years and has given a hell of a bunch of money to charity.

Bottom line is if you don't believe in his mission or you don't like Tim no one is forcing you to go to PHOF. However if you do go to PHOF and then think by posting negative comments about Tim or his staff somehow things will magically change I think you are barking up the wrong tree. At this point you are not going to "teach an old dog new tricks" so just decide if you want to put up with who Tim is and enjoy his arcade or pass it by. It really isn't all that complicated - Tim is not going to change.

I just wish more people who have stopped by since the move would post more information about what is actually in the arcade now, how progress with the move is going, and more pictures of the new place. Debating if Tim is a nice guy isn't the intent of this thread.

I don't really care if Tim is a likable guy or not. The problem is that he seems to be running an unlikable place.

People don't tend to return to unlikable places, and businesses tend to do poorly without repeat business and with bad word-of-mouth.

Then I’m sure the PBHOF will go tits up in no time. Problem solved.

And if it doesn’t? Well, either people don’t really care if they get a handy for walking in the door, or maybe only a select few find them “rude.” If that’s the case you gotta wonder why.

    #104 2 years ago

@ Too_Many_Pins....this "white-knighting" of Tim will get you absolutely nowhere. I actually find it kind of funny. You two should get a room!
Tim is a cranky bastard, and I think even HE wouldn't argue THAT with you. His workers learn from the top. It doesn't matter if others have had good experiences with either him or if the gray-haired crazy cat lady is having a "good day" or not. The place has a rep of being unfriendly and borderline hostile. To everyone? Absolutely not! I think the majority of people who frequent there, pinheads or tourists walk out unscathed. But there will be hell to pay if you break a rule that you didn't know existed and you'll never want to patronize them again. THAT'S unacceptable.
Tell you what--why not suggest to Tim to get some classy, professionally-made signs that spell out the rules for the place. Evidently it's warranted. Place it right on the front doors as you enter. That way you'll know how to behave in lockstep with his wishes? Remember-the goal is to get people in there and wow them. As Mbeardsly stated above, businesses tend to do poorly with bad word of mouth.

Here is pic of the signage that was right inside the door when I went.

id love to tell you to quit while youre ahead, but you were never ahead. so please, just quit. many of your positions are easily countered. you deactivated pinside after receiving backlash for your overzealous support of tim in his gofundme thread, yet you came back and continue to defend him.

it troubles me that so many people were unaware or failed to see that the PHOFs gofundme fundraiser was one of the most disingenuous propaganda campaigns of our time.

    Seriously?
A new multi-million dollar property welcoming tourists in one of the world's most visited cities, filled with neon and professionally done signs galore?

And that is the quality hand-scrawled "welcome come in" sign, right inside the door??
    For a Hall Of Fame??

    Someone please upgrade that sign.
You never get a second chance to make a good first impression - on anybody.

I have posted on this thread like a dozen times basically trying for two things. The first point I have been trying to make is really pretty simple - TIM IS NOT GOING TO CHANGE. (Say what you want - think what you want - do what you want but regardless Tim has been doing it his way successfully for longer than most people posting here have been alive and it isn't going to change now). Haters will hate him and I doubt he really cares.

But more importantly I would love to know what is going on - see some updated pictures - know how Tim made out with the move - etc.

The title of this thread is: The Vegas PHoF Opens Tomorrow 4/14/21 In New Location

I am just trying to find out as much as possible about that new location NOT debate how Tim should run the place. I guess that is asking too much?

Bottom line is if I don't like the service I get somewhere I go I just don't go back. If you hate the way Tim runs "his place" it is really pretty simple go to another arcade. But don't expect the owner of a successful business to change just because you don't like the way he runs his place.

PLEASE HOW ABOUT WE STOP TALKING ABOUT TIM & start talking about the machines/ layout/ etc of the new building. I am tired of hearing about "Tim isn't a nice guy" anyone who knows him or has visited PHOF already knows that. I was all excited to see a dozen new post here when I got on Pinside today then I open the thread only to find more people complaining about my post or about Tim. PLEASE how about some updates on the new location!

Here's your update from this past Wednesday, April 28th at 7:45 pm. 17 cars in the lot, six using Handicapped spaces. All modern Stern pins were on with a few being played.

Aboot 80% of the other SS pins were on. EM's, which are my reason for visiting, were MAYBE 40% on. None of this is for covid since all games are spaced the same at the moment and as I mentioned, all modern Sterns were on. Many Post-It Notes mentioning: "Burning smell, ball wont kick out, Flipper dead, DOA, Game caught fire, etc" on the turned off EM's.

So much for the staff getting all the Big Hit Shed EM's ready during the shut down for the soft opening. The ball bowler from the just closed Trop building was in the new place but not assembeled.

Finally, the Herb Silvers/Retro Pinball KoD was LED'ed and looked like crap. The lamp sockets are already going bad as the LED's are dim and fluttering. Both for playboard GI and under inserts.

I enjoyed playing the Bally Zip-A-Doo (from Wiley Amusements) and the two Williams Line Drives. Although one has an Upper Deck playfield retrofitted. I don't recall Williams having a conversion kit for this. One inning for a quarter is pretty crappy as those playfields were designed to be Out Happy.

$50.00 donations being sought to get your name added to those scheduled to be put up on the wall. T-shirt included. Or, $20 for the T-Shirt only.

The repair bench and parts hoard from the old place was strewn around the back of the building. Not sure why it didn't go into the new service area. Maybe no room...

I gotta say the men's restroom was clean, well lit and didn't smell like a pile of burning tractor tires. Family/assist restroom was blocked off.

When I left at 8:30, there were 14 cars there. Not sure how many were workers/volunteers.

    Quoted from too-many-pins:

Regarding this, remember when Lee Iacocca said : "If you can find a better car, buy it"?

A lot of people took him up on that offer.

Were there a lot more machines in the new place compared to the old location? How "full" is the new location so far? Do you know if Tim got completely out of the old location? More curious about the move then the condition of the machines or number of cars in the parking lot since he really isn't fully open yet anyway. And I guess lastly did you feel things were spaced out enough that you felt OK playing machines without people right on top of you since this Corona Virus mess is still going on?

I am trying to remember but I think this week was suppose to be the deadline for him getting moved out of the old location? May 6th or something is what I remember seeing somewhere.

If you recall from when the new location was first announced, the old location was supposed to be vacated long ago. Not sure if an extension was granted or was a month-to-month agreement made etc.

As for being ok with spacing, there are probably a hundred additional machines versus what was in the old place. Spacing is wider, 2-3 feet between most machines. Wider spacing between the odd machines since the building has under half the machines it can hold.

Nevada is open for business. All of the local casinos, that had Temp Checks and fewer entry points have done away with all that over the past month. Masks are still required but most, if not all, slots are back in service. I have no issue if machines are spaced like at the old place. We are not in the middle of a pandemic. We are at the end. People are vaccinated.

As far as the Corona Virus goes this is the attitude and lack of understanding that concerns me. Don't want to get into a vaccine or Corona Virus debate here but no one is 100% sure where things are headed as far as this Corona Virus mess. So "being smart" are all of us doing all we can to "stop the spread" will help things get back to normal more quickly. DON'T live in fear - just use a little common sense and this mess will be over sooner.

As far as the "date" with the old location the Go-Fund-Me has a May 6th date that he needed to be 100% vacated so I was just curious if that has happened yet. I knew I saw that date somewhere so after my last post I looked around and found it on the go-fund-me page.

As far as "filling up" the new building I am sure that will happen over time. Hopefully sooner rather than later but time will tell.

I have both the VFW & PHOF on my "bucket list" for sometime in the near future. But I am not ready to travel yet so it might be next year instead of this year but I fully expect to visit both sometime "fairly soon".

    #129 2 years ago

Honest first reaction was “man, this guy really doesn’t like the Tour de France”

    #130 2 years ago

Eh... I would have burned it just for being yellow. Now if that had been a black shirt, well then that would have been wrong!

Hey, people can do with their shirts (items) whatever they want. Truth is, money was spent and went to the source already. Shirt is just the byproduct of that transaction.

    #131 2 years ago

One of the things that amazes me the most about this past year is how many people I thought were "smart" that I have discovered are clueless. Unless you can prove science wrong how can you disagree with science?

As far as PHOF haters can keep hating that is their right. But it is hard to deny just how successful Tim has been. Don't like the place just stay home or go somewhere else. Life really isn't all that complicated. I doubt anyone enjoying the place is going to care if you are their or not.

    #132 2 years ago

    Xanex bro, relax.

    Quoted from Yelobird:

You aren’t worth the effort of a down vote

Wasn't that hard, only took me 1 second.

    Quoted from Calfdemon:

Eh... I would have burned it just for being yellow.

I know, yellow? Pinball safety is a top of Tims mind.

I think "soft skinned" customers might want to consider just skipping their visit if they are expecting to be treated like they are at Disney World or at one of the Casinos.

If you don't want to wear a mask just stay home and away from people trying to put an end to this mess.

EXACTLY - I know you guys get tired of seeing me post but over and over again people keep posting "Tim needs to change" what is so hard to figure out - Tim is not going to change at this point in his life. So how about we just give up on this and start posting new information & new pictures of the new PHOF. Everything else is old news!

I know it gets old seeing my post on this thread but I get sick & tired of hearing people trying to tell the most successful arcade owner in the world he needs to change. I keep asking for updates because I am trying to decide if I want to try to make the trip out to check out the new place later this year or if I should wait until next year. Yet every time I look at this post it is either someone mocking me or saying Tim needs to change. How about more new information & pictures of the new location!

Also I am not "complaining" about other peoples opinions and I am hoping some of those complains sink in if the staff at PHOF reads them but I am old enough & smart enough to realize that is highly unlikely.

Covid 19 still has me somewhat concerned but depending on what happens over the next few months I would really love to check out PHOF ASAP. I am also wondering if anyone knows if Tim got the old location completely cleared out yet since his deadline is only a couple days away. Since he has not been asking for "extra help" I have to assume that project is finished but you know what they say about "assuming".

@too_many_pins....PLEASE, for everyone's sake, STFU already and stop posting this SAME old bullshit. We get it. You LOVE Tim and his venture. That's great. You disagree with anyone who Tim or his gray old mare crazy cat lady girlfriend yells at. Check. We got it (about 20 of your posts ago.) Please stop now. Seriously, you're being incredibly rude. THANK GOD for the "ignore" and "Drain Topic" feature on this forum.

@too_many_pins, so pointing out that Tim is an undisputed asshole and his games don't work for shit isn't going to change anything? Would you like to elaborate on that?

    #143 2 years ago

Tim keeping the place open is contingent on following the mask order. A few pictures posted on social media of unmasked patrons could get PHOF shut down. I can't fault him on his policy. Even though the mask mandate has been lifted here, I know I have to wear one in Nevada, even though I hate it.

Look, I've been going to PHOF for almost 12 years and the guy has always been respectful to me. I get that he's a bit of a curmudgeon, but if you don't swear, slam the pins, put anything on the pins, have kids that run around the place, or tell him the story of the machine that got you into pinball when you were 6, you should be alright. ...and for the time being, wear a mask even though, I agree, it's a pain in the ass.

Going tomorrow to check out the new place.

Anyone know what some of the more rare pinballs are at the new location? I love trying the really obscure stuff, like I went to the Museum of Pinball a couple of weeks ago and played Defender, Starlight, etc. I've been to the old Pinball Hall Of Fame location but with the new one being much larger I'm hoping many of those machines they had in storage are now on the floor.

The old location that recently closed has been vacated. Even the trailer, shipping container and general garbage from out back are gone. Note the nice "We have moved" sign....

Judging by the "Available" sign , it looks like the deal for Terrible Herbst or whoever to put a car wash on the site fell through.
