    Quoted from Tydence:

Did you write it down in the notebook? Otherwise, I'll be in Saturday and make sure they are aware of it / fix the issues.

I did not write them down. Shooter rod on GOTG is super weak as well, need to use action button to full plunge.

One thing I don’t get is now that Elvira’s HoH is finally working perfectly, why didn’t Stern install Stern Connected on it?

Anyone that has a HoH, Stern Connected is an available add-on, right?

    #1153 1 year ago

New Elviras from the recent run come with insider connected

There is a kit from what I recall for older Elviras

I added IC to my LE so yes, it can be done.

Went to PHOF yesterday for a few hours. When I arrived, walked around and saw Spinal Tap, but someone was playing it. Went back to it about 1/2 hour later after playing some games on Foo Fighter, but Spinal Tap was turned off.

Please keep in mind that the Spinal Tap on the floor is a VERY EARLY prototype, one of only 3.
There are a variety of mechanical and programming issues on any machine this early in the process. Homepin wanted a location that would run the wheels off the machine with constant play in a location where there are high level techs at all times that can give them feedback. I have already forwarded several problems that had developed. The reason it was off yesterday was the MYSTERY SWITCH ISSUE came back. At random, it will stop sensing all the playfield and coin [door switches. A 10 minuet nap and it is happy again.

The sound is a hot mess, no coordination between the game play and the clips from the movie. Rules are not complete.

Tim, thanks for the detailed explanation about Spinal Tap status (only a small portion of which is quoted above). I live about 20 minutes from the PHOF and visit often. Will check on status of Tap the next time I visit, which will likely be for the upcoming tournament in less than a week.

With Tim's track record & formula for success I kind of doubt it. From what I understand for a good many years he made huge donations to the Salvation Army each year then things changed with the Salvation Army in Vegas and Tim wasn't happy with the changes. It seems like around that time he started saving money up to make the move into this new location. Hopefully Tim will see this post and clarify where things are at and where they are headed. I have to assume he will get all debt paid off before getting back to giving money away. Long term that makes the most sense.

Once PHoF gets beyond these "growing pains" I am sure the money headed to charity is going to be mind boggling but short term paying all outstanding debt off makes the most sense. I know guidelines for a non-profit are pretty strict so regardless of "how you stack it" PHoF will be giving a lot of money away again at some point.

Who cares if he's sending money to the Sal Army? His new location is a type of charity: spreading fun to tens of thousands (more?). How many charities do far less than that? I'd say Tim's operation is far leaner and accomplishes more than 90%+ of all the charities which really only function to raise money and employ their top brass with huge salaries.

Its much better seeing Tim save, reinvest into PHOF and fund one-off projects as he sees fit which help the community. Far, far more effective and much less waste.

Keep doing what you're doing Tim!!! You're rocking it.

Homepin should have put a sign on it to say it's an early/incomplete version. I played it at PhoF and quite frankly thought it was terrible, but I would have think of it differently or reserve my judgment if I knew it an early prototype.

My girlfriend and I just finished a road trip throughout Arizona, Utah, Nevada, and California, including a one-night stop in Vegas. Of course we had to stop in at PHoF.

    - Just about every game we played was working perfectly. Oddly enough, all the EMs played fast and lively with no identifiable errors while the System 11 and newer games seemed a bit more long in the tooth. I imagine the more modern games get more play, hence more maintenance is needed. The staff, including Tim, were all running around fixing games the whole time. We went once earlier in the day, broke for lunch and a dip in the Mandalay Bay pool, then came back until close. Upon our return, we noticed the lineup had changed in a number of spots. This gave us the impression that they take maintenance seriously. This allowed me to play 2001 which wasn't working earlier in the day.

    - The novelty games left the biggest impression on us. Challenger was hilarious, very fun head-to-head game. Pinball Circus is a rite of passage: I wish Python could have brought it to market, though I understand why it didn't happen. The best one of the day, however, was Sega Basketball. Wow, what an experience! Why no arcade/redemption game manufacturer has glued a bunch of pink & purple LEDs to this and "remade" it is beyond me; it's perfect for that environment. I can just picture a roomful of people hooting and hollering over this game. Though I think Sega only made 15 or so, it looks like similar games were also made by Midway and Taito. I'd love to own one someday!

    - All the staff were friendly, helpful, and attentive. That being said, whenever someone (probably a kid) made a loud WOOOOOOOO!! or yelling sound, about 15 seconds later, Tim would get on the intercom 1984-style and say "YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE, YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE - THERE IS NO_ YELLING IN THE PINBALL HALL OF FAME. THERE IS NO_ RUNNING IN THE PINBALL HALL OF FAME," or words to that effect. This became a running joke for the remainder of our road trip whenever someone was being too loud in a restaurant or whathaveyou. I understand why he does it--if people want wild, screaming kids, they can go to a redemption arcade--but it still cracked us up. My girlfriend even got to witness Tim kicking some people out, so she really got the whole experience. She thought he was being mean, but I explained the PHoF is less of an arcade and more of a personal collection we are invited in to view and play. If you invite the public into your space and they don't follow the rules or even common sense, you're not going to be too kind when asking them to leave, are you? After acquiring ten years of public-facing customer service experience, I certainly wouldn't.

All in all, it was a wonderful experience: the place a had a positive tone, everyone I saw of all ages was enjoying themselves, smiling, and having fun. Not sure when I'll be back in Vegas given how expensive it is nowadays, but I'd certainly make PHoF part of the trip!

Ah, the irony. One quick "WOO!" followed by a long, loud proclamation against noise. Reminds me of when someone yells at their dog to stop barking and they're more annoying than the dog.

I'm not even mad at it. You just gotta laugh. Tim is among the last of the true curmudgeons. Someday places like this will be run by blasé elder millennials.

Vegas crazy expensive. I sure miss the 4.95 breakfast buffets in the 90,s. 100x odds on craps at the Frontier and beer was freeflowing

    #1172 12 months ago

The PHoF is indeed located in Las Vegas and is geared heavily toward tourists, but it is NOT a gaming venue. No slot machines or table games. No gaming license. No bar. No liquor license. It’s family friendly. All ages welcomed.

There’s a reason there’s no Walking Dead or Sopranos on the floor (yes, there are two playboys, but they are Ballys and Data Easts).

The high ceilings acoustics amplify yelling immensely, so the staff asks that inside voices are used. The pinball machines are loud enough.

Oh yes ... I was 1987, 1990, 1991, 2003 and in januaray in the US.
Hard times now for travellers. But it is what it is.

In january I was with the german airforce 2 weeks in Vegas. The last exercise we joined was in 2018 and some technicians told me that a beer in the hotel was around 3 bucks. Now we were on 10 bucks for a bottle.

I guess that's kinda like a Mexican trying to find good tacos in Iceland.

The Germans train at Nellis AFB! When I was there're we trained Iranian pilots on the F-111! FYI at the then new 101 club, you could get a steak and egg breakfast for $1.01,including coffee! Thats in North Vegas by the Palomino!

I had to take a medical LOA from volunteering there for a while so unfortunately I don’t have the exact current figures, but if there is some specific games you want to find out about, I can probably find out for you.

Still had a excellent time though

Was excited to see The Big Lebowski but it was a Gottlieb (Strikes and Spares?) with cab re-decalled!!

People who focus on the negative will never know how to enjoy life & be happy. Put a positive spin on things and just think of how many machines are up and running at PHoF. There are very few locations with over 100 working machines and even on the worst days I am sure it would be easy to find more than that working at PHoF.

It is a shame Tim can't "do better" as far as the number (or percentage) of machines that are fully working. But that isn't going to change so just accept it or go somewhere else.

I doubt many people doing what Tim does could do it better. It isn't perfect but he works his ass off to make it as good as he can make it and I give him credit for that. If you want to play 100's of great fully working machines go see Clay & his crew at VFW the one weekend a year they are open. Clay runs a "well oiled machine" but being open to the public 3 days a year is a heck of a lot different than being open everyday.

Anyway - my two cents about this again!

You are correct, but when I am dropping .50 to $1.00 per play on the supposedly "working" machines and they are just not right, it's very hard to focus on the positive.

That was my experience. The machines turned off are ok. You know they don't work. You expect the ones that are on are fully working. I dropped $1 in BK2K and the gate did not come down and some of the drops weren't registering. So you can't lock balls or reset magna save or progress spelling knight. I told one of the techs and he said he was aware of the problem. Then why is the game on stealing my money. Many other games I played were like this/
If only the fully working games were turned on, I would say 10% of their games would be on.

When it comes to percentage of working machines, its a bit of an illusion. A lot of the arcades will pull non-working machines from the floor, bumping up their working percentage. It works, and looks really nice. I guess PHoF could put up a wall and move all the broken ones behind it?

According to Pinball Map, PHoF has 341 machines.

Compare that to Pacific Pinball at 102 or Next Level at 247 (with no EM machines)

So, even if 1/2 are down (Its not that many), it's not too shabby.

    I did not see plaques.

Can't really have a "Hall of Fame" without stuff older than 40 years old. Pinball existed long before the semiconductor and integrated circuit boards and chips. Hell, pinball existed before electricity! It's where we got the name, too, as there was a ball that would literally hit a bunch of pins on its way to falling into various holes to score points.

    #1199 10 months ago
    Quoted from Tydence:

According to Pinball Map, PHoF has 341 machines.

My guess is with that many machines they don’t even know all of the problems, and if they do, that would be quite a “to do list”. If they did have a cycling list of games that are out of service long term, then it would be nice to have it posted somewhere. I’d hate to travel to Vegas to play a bunch of pinball that I haven’t before just find out that the 10 I want to play the most are all off.

It would be easier for PHOF to defend themselves if they could say that less than 10% of their games are broken. But I fear that it’s closer to 25% (or higher) with some of the comments on here. Having 85 broken games to me means that you don’t have 341 games to play it means that you have 250 game to play.

PHOF is one of the few reasons that I want to travel to the states, but this thread hasn’t inspired me to book a trip yet. Quite the opposite. I keep hoping that this will become a world class attraction, but it just seems like I would come away with a mediocre experience

I was just in Vegas last week 5/22-5/25, that Tuesday we had a few hours free in the afternoon that I planned for us go to the hall of fame. That morning my wife naturally said on her own “ughhh we go every year and every year all the games I want to play are off”
Being that she’s not on pinside and said this unprovoked on her own sealed the deal for me and we just used that free time at the pool. First time in 10 years of going to Vegas that we didn’t stop in.
