Skip to the 14 min mark for PHoF goodness.

I had a great time at the PHoF yesterday. I got to play Pinball Circus so that made my day.

A couple of machines were down but not how it gets portrayed here. The techs were doing their best to fix them.

It would be cool if they added a hot dog roller and one of those pizza cases to have some more food.

Yes, Tony (T2) is a volunteer technician that is handy with the signage program. He also was the one that figured out how to make the PA system functional finally.

It’s only used for closing announcements at this time though.

Got a confirmation that a Stern Rush Pro Model will be joining the family soon.

Meh. Personally, I would have preferred to skip Rush and trade in the Godzilla Pro for a Godzilla Premium, but that’s just me, and obv it’s not my money nor my decision to make. So, Rush it is!

    #809 2 years ago

I got a couple messages regarding specific games.

Addams Family is back in play. $0.50 per play.

Rush just arrived. $1 per play. Pro Model.

X Files is going to be down for a while.

Monopoly now has a colour DMD that was donated by a volunteer.

There are two Revenge from Mars, two Creature from Black Lagoon (one with colour DMD), and two Time Machines on the floor. One of the Revenge and one of the Creatures are for sale.

Machines people commonly ask about that the PHoF does NOT have in their collection:

    Alien
    Big Lebowski
Any JJP other than Hobbit and WoZ.
    Lethal Weapon 3
    Congo
    ID4
    Back to the Future
    Robocop
    Pac Man (pinball)
    Beatles
    LED Zepplin
    Tales from the Crypt

Correction: Rush isn’t arriving until tomorrow.

Is bally's lite a diamond on the floor? A cousin game to skill roll. Tim's warehouse walk through video is the only visual confirmation on the internet that the game actually exists (that I know of).

I am curious about the woodrails. The website lists the following machines, but only one (Lazy-Q) was working when I visited this past July. Are any more working/available for play? Is the list up to date? And are there any stats or observations regarding how often the woodrails get played? I am hoping to visit again soon and contribute several cups of quarters, but not sure when that'll be. Thanks for any info!

    EM Woodrail
    1. 1948 Gottlieb Lady Robin Hood
    2. 1948 United Rondeevoo
    3. 1949 CCM Football
    4. 1953 Gottlieb Arabian Knights
    5. 1953 Williams Lazy-Q
    6. 1956 Gottlieb Toreador

I'm the former owner of the RonDeeVoo and as far as my visits to both PHOFs have seen, it has always been out of order. It always worked when I owned it.

Unfortunately I couldn’t RUSH to open it. I’m sure Tim will get it done by tomorrow.

I like the lineup and would only consider adding a Guns N’ Roses. As my j j p addition.

I’d like to see how it earns there. For coin drop.

It might also be fun to hear all coin drop, in terms of plays. I’d love to hear the top ten earners.

Once again, I am so envious that you all have a local place like this open every day.

    Someday, here In Los Angeles…

    #824 2 years ago

Rush is front and forward at the PHoF.

HOWEVER, only 24 hours after it hit the floor, it was down and off.

Yep, the PHoF got one of the ones with the soda can frame around the scoop that bent and blocks the ball from falling in.

    Wow. Stern. Just wow.

    #825 2 years ago

Here is a pic of the issue when it first occurred. It has since been repaired by Skippy, a visiting long term volunteer Technician that has been a friend of the PHoF since it was founded.

I would have LOVED it if the PHoF got a JJP GnR, but it’s not going to happen. The boss has mentioned a few times that he was not happy with the two JJP’s currently in the collection and thus, won’t be buying any more of them. ☹️

Can't wait to visit the new location! I have been a frequent visitor over the years and the last 2 locations, I spend some time there any time I'm in Vegas. Should be back out there towards the end of March.

Insider connected up and running on rush and Godzilla?

This is true. Unfortunately, ran into some snags with the connectivity of the games to the PHoF. At this time, there is no estimated date as to when the online service will go live.

Any chance of KRULL coming out of the shed to the new location?

    #833 2 years ago

    Some updates:

The original FATHOM is now fully functional and costs $0.50 to play.

    Simpsons Data East is down.
Last Action Hero is back working after being down for a long time.
Banzai Run and WaterWorld will be down a while.
Gottlieb’s Strikes and Spares has been reskinned as a Big Lebowski Bowler.
Cirques Voltaire’s neon is fully functional and the game is one of the best specimens I’ve seen. The cannon in the back box, however, is not functional.

There is a party area/room available for rent/donation. Contact Beth or Tim directly to book/reserve. Recently, a 10 YO birthday party was held there. If the party arranger so desires, they can book a licensed bartender and offer a host/no host bar.

Of course, credits on the games are not included. There is a large function booked that will involve closing early, as they rented the entire building and all games with unlimited credits. I believe that starts at $25k, but I could be wrong.

Also, games are available for rent for private parties off site.

I will ask, but honestly, probably not for a while.

Just curious with a tech question. When you have that big private event where all free play is included, how do you make the changeover since everything is set up to collect coins? All of the older EMs don't have a free play setting via a button push. So I think you have to either do a quick mod on all of them, or manually max out the credit reel which involves getting into the back of the backbox. You probably have a system, but the logistics of this place with so many machines always fascinates me.

Great question. Since the move to the new location, I am aware of only one time that the building was set to Free Play, and that was the Official Grand Opening event that occurred on July 1st, 2021. Anyone that contributed any amount was invited and it was a great event.

All the modern games were simply set to Free Play, and the EM’s and video cabinets were just loaded with credits. If any ran out, there were several Techs and Attendants working the floor that reloaded the credits onto the games if they ran out.

After the event wrapped, it took a couple hours, but all games were reverted back to regular and the free credits were drained from the EM’s.

Hope that answered your question. I attended the event and it was a lot of fun. The mayor and city councilman were there and presented Tim with a Key to the Strip as well as a Proclamation that July 1st was Pinball Hall of Fame day. It was cute.

That's called Canada day here. Right in the middle of summer, it's a great day for a celebration, and another reason to play pinball is always welcome

Thanks, that's how I figured you did it. But, to load the EMs with credits, you have to take off the back panel, then you can hit the solenoid with your finger, then put the panel back on. Not a big deal, but when you have 100 of them, its a lot more work. Then, if one gets the credits drained during the event, you have to repeat the process.

Wouldn't be as bad if you left the back panels off, but then the noise level goes up, and also you have to store them somewhere.

Its all doable of course. Depends also on how many EMs you have on the floor, I haven't been to the new place yet so I don't know that.

Now if you wire up a cheater button that will advance the credit wheel and hide the button inside the door it would make the process easier. But then, you have to do a mod on all your EMs.

Um, just open the coin door and run a quarter through it a bunch of times. That or flick the coin mech switch activator by hand.

To temporarily set EMs on free play I've soldered a toggle switch to one end of a length of two conductor wire and a pair of alligator clips to the other end. Then you can clip (or just solder) one end of the wire on to the jones plug in the back box or to the solder lugs on the credit unit and put the toggle switch on or near the coin door. Then just open the door and flip the toggle switch. Once it's installed it's probably faster than navigating the menus on an SS game.

Maybe it's the installing on 100 games and removing later.

A lot of work for one day.

No doubt. But no need to remove them. I install them and leave them.

Yes, I did that on my Bon Voyage. I like being to flip the switch to go back and forth.

Retro Ralph at the hall of fame. Jump to the 12min mark for 1 min, and then to 16min for another 2 minutes from there, mostly looking at arcade stuff.

I came out here last month to see a Tool concert and hang out with the wife. Came here probably 3 times and stayed for 5+ hours each time lol. We had an absolute blast.

Mike, the OP on this thread, is a really cool dude. We chatted it up for quite a bit. The volunteers there work their butt's off 100%. Pins break, and some we didn't get to play. They did fix as many as they could while we were there.

However, just the fact we can even play ANY of these games at all, I am very grateful for; we should all be grateful for. It could just not exist at all or the owner keep them in his private collection and that's it, but we get to play them thanks to everyone who puts time in there. It is something to see and is so much fun. When you're there, thank those volunteers and enjoy the time you spend there. It was a really good experience.

It was really nice meeting you, Mike! I was the guy with the Tool hoodie and my wife, Kat, talked for a bit and we bought some shirts. See you next time, man!
