I have been casually looking for a Corvette, and when I messaged a guy on FB marketplace to ask him about any known issues...he said no, it's tip top.
When I asked to go see it, he said it was in the shop for transmission repair...

How is the '76 Pacer for finding parts? I don't think you could find one in a salvage yard.

Looking at new RAV4 hybrids for the wife in/near the Omaha market. Is there any hope of getting one for MSRP right now?

Or maybe a better question to anyone familiar with the market…what is a fair deal to get right now, relative to MSRP?

Before the pandemic, the all-electric RAV4s were compliance cars in CA. You could get a lease for like $60/mo. With rebates and stuff in certain parts of CA (central valley) they were PAYING you to drive it once you netted out the rebates and incentives.

Like I said in an earlier post we got a '22 Odyssey around Thanksgiving last year 5 minutes after it was dropped off at the dealer for $2k over MSRP and that was a good deal in CA right now. The car market is crazy. Even if you're willing to pay the $2k over, there are others just like you, so right place/right time is a factor too. I was tracking cars enroute to dealerships to up our chances.

    How do you do that?

    #112 2 years ago
    Quoted from Strummy:

    How do you do that?

I don't know about other brands, but for Honda you can go to their website, select the car you want, then scroll to the bottom of that car's page and there's a "search inventory" link. Put in your zip code and it will tell you if there are any cars nearby. It counts them as in stock if they are on the lot or enroute.

So, to find which dealers have the car(s) and what options/colors they are, you have to flip through all the options and all the colors and it will update the list to the right of the color/options area. You're looking for the ones that say "x the lot" or "x in transit." Preferably "in transit" because the "on the lot" ones are probably gone or spoken for. Don't bother with the dealers that have "we can help you find it."

I was checking this every day to find the one we eventually bought. That's why it was ours within about 5 minutes of coming off the delivery truck (actually even before, the salesman reserved it for us while we drove down to meet the truck).

You can go through the options and colors pretty fast once you get the hang of it.

Well, to give the guy credit, after it leaves the shop hopefully there are no known issues as the one known issue will no longer be an issue.

I took my 2012 Soul in to the local KIA dealer for service on Monday. Looked at the new cars.
The lot was half empty, No Niro's or Rios, No K5's, No Soul EV's, Most of the Forte's were in my "Favorite" color: Fleet Sale White, Only a few SOULs, a Couple of Stingers and a limited number of Seltos's.

Everything had a Marked-up price of $7,200-$14,000 mark up.

Looks like I'll be putting off buying a new car for a while.

A friend of mine. He’s moving to Florida so why not. He takes it to shows and has 38 trophies for it. There is too much to list on this thing. The leather sto and go were put down in the floor and never have been used. I play with it for awhile before It gets changed back. I thought the wrap was a joke until I saw it. Absolutely beautiful and real professional. It may be at the Allentown show.

Is everyone just sort of accepting get gouged right now? What is an acceptable price on a new Honda or Toyota? My daughter is about to graduate college and unfortunately, it's time for something new.

My local dealerships both Toyota and Honda are advertising they are selling new cars at sticker or below. Not that way in the rest of the country.

It might be easing up now a little, but it wasn't that way late last year. As far as I know in CA, at least, for popular cars, you're paying $2k-$8k over MSRP, depending on where you go IF you can find the car you want. And most of the ones that do this don't mark up the MSRP, they load it with a ton of worthless junk to give you the "value" when in reality of say $5k of junk they add they're paying maybe $500, so it's essentially an MSRP markup, straight up.

    #130 2 years ago

I just bought one new two weeks ago. Yep nothing priced normal I could find....although I didn't look forever either. Ended up buying new which I said I wouldn't do again.

    #131 2 years ago

I paid $2000 over invoice for my Subaru a couple of months ago. I felt like I got a good deal at the time. On the plus side my pick up truck is probably worth about twice as much as I paid for it a few years ago

    #132 2 years ago

Been keeping an eye out for a certain model car on FB Marketplace. Easy to weed out the bullshitters when asking for the VIN. Yeah, I'm not driving to look at jacksquat unless I have the VIN to perform a little research.

Those douchebags also love to not show pictures of the driver seat, then just reply that there are no rips or tears. Ok, now I know it's fucking filthy.

Ordering a new vehicle is probably the best bet, most vehicles you can get at or below MSRP this way. Used market is insane right now.

I ordered a Bronco, which is one of the most popular new cars out there for $1k under MSRP 2 months ago. I probably won’t get it until early 2023 tho. Most other vehicles I looked at were at or under MSRP with a wait time of 2-3 months.

$21,500 is also the price I paid for it 12 years ago in 2010.

Well, if you're willing to wait a year, then your plan is probably good in some markets. But hopefully general availability will be better a year from now anyway. However, if you need a car now or soon, you're pretty much SOL unless you're paying over MSRP.

back in the early 90s, my 1977 Trans Am had gotten totalled and I was looking for a replacement. I ordered Auto Trader magazines from different parts of the country, and if I saw one I liked, I mailed the owner one of those disposable cameras, had them shoot the whole roll of the car from every angle and send it back to me. Dropped the film off, waited for it to get developed, then took a look.

My brother in law worked for Northwest Airlines at the time and we could fly for free. We did a 36 hour whirlwind tour out to California, Iowa and Missouri to check out 4 different cars. Ended up buying one a short time later 20 miles from home.

Things are a little easier now.

I can't even order a Maverick Hybrid until August. Trying to find an XLT Hybrid with the Luxury package and not get gouged. I found one about 100 miles away and I've searched a large portion of the US using the 500 mile radius hack.

They closed the orders for both the Maverick and Bronco in the beginning of March, more orders then they can build this year.

Nah, it’s a free market. Dealerships are pretty barren currently. You aren’t finding a Bronco or Maverick at MSRP anywhere in the country on a lot right now.
