Greg Freres
Greg is a pinball artist and graphic designer with over 30 years of experience in the industry. His work can be found on games like Medieval Madness, Elvira, Mustang, Wizard of Oz, Dr. Dude, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Revenge from Mars, Scared Stiff and the arcade games Smash TV and Arch Rivals. Greg is currently a full time artist at Stern Pinball.
Dennis Nordman
Dennis is a pinball designer with 20 years of experience in the field. His design work can be found on games like Pirates of the Caribbean, Wheel of Fortune, White Water, Elvira and the Party Monsters, Dr. Dude, Scared Stiff and Demolition Man. His current work includes Lexy Lightspeed for Multimorphic . At the 2009 Seattle show Nordman and Freres came up with the idea for the Whoa Nellie! pinball machine, which they later produced in a limited run through their own company WhizBang Pinball. Stern recently announced they will do a full run of Whoa Nellie! Nordman and Freres will talk about the project and bring one to the show for you to play.
Paul Faris
Paul designed this year’s show poster! Faris is an illustrator and art director with 20 years of experience working on arcade and pinball games. Faris’s work can be found on Evel Knievel, Xenon, Centaur, Back to the Future, Hook, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Checkpoint, Lost World, Eight Ball, Paragon, Andromeda, Space Invaders, Phantom of the Opera and Frankenstein--a few of which are featured on the poster.
James Loflin
James was founder of Pinball Inc. and is currently working on manufacturing Python Anghelo’s Pinball Circus game. He will be joining the seminar lineup for the 2015 Northwest Pinball & Arcade Show to talk about his friendship with Python and his commitment to finishing Python’s original vision of this very unique machine!
The Making of The Hobbit Pinball
This seminar will feature Jersey Jack, sound designer David Thiel and technical expert Butch Peel discussing the design process and refinements made to the final production model of this epic new pinball adventure based on The Hobbit movies and book.
Doors open at noon, registration is usually selling tickets around 11am. The Kid's Zone will be set up in the lobby by registration, so there will be games to play and things to do before the show officially opens.
We now have official confirmation that the Magic Girl pinball prototype machine was finished in assembly and testing this week and is on it's way to Tacoma for the show. This has been one of the most anticipated new pins in recent years and mired in delays and controversy, it will be exciting to see it's world debut in person at the NW Pinball & Arcade Show!
000001truck.jpg
The first 4 semis of games have been unloaded at the Tacoma Convention Center already and the trucks are out for their second run of game pick ups!
Also, check this out, the LeMay Car Museum is loaning us the car from The Flinstones Movie for the 2015 NW Pinball & Arcade Show this weekend. Here they are unloading it and our own Patty Okert taking a spin in it! Turns out you don't need to power it with your feet. The car will be staged next to a Flinstones pinball machine in the main show hall this weekend! They also are loaning us a Corvette, which will be staged by a Stern Corvette pin.
For those that can't make it to the show, the seminars, speakers and tournaments will be live streamed. You can check the live streams out here: http://nwpinballshow.com/live-stream
Quoted from Jared:Can I paypal someone money to drop tickets in the BK2K bucket? Please?? Can I win off-site?
Ha ha ha, nope! Kinda the whole point of doing the raffles is so someone at the show can win them. Everyone gathers around and gets all excited when the ticket is drawn and there is one really happy attendee when the number is read. Plus, that would be more competition for me! The Black Knight 2000 would look awesome next to my Black Knight.
Quoted from KenLayton:Any attendance figures for today?
Not yet, today isn't over And lots of people are just rolling in now after work and dinner. It feels to me like we have a fair amount more people than last year on Friday. I'm expecting tomorrow to be packed and non stop fun!
I haven't played The Hobbit yet, but I'm really liking KISS, Bride of Pinbot 2.0, and the Journey and Tattoo Mystique pins.
Yeah, really it's only redeeming feature is it's freakish size. We play games on it for money to make it fun.
Quoted from KenLayton:Final attendance figures for the show?
I saw the rough guestimate at closing, it was around 2,900-3,000, it was a couple hundred more from last year. All the pinball tournaments had significantly more players except for the women's tourney.
Quoted from pinwiztom:I feel that the machines (working/not working) ratio was pretty good for a show like this (about 90-95% working)
and the Tech crew tried their best to get to games needing help as soon as the tech table was notified,
and on occasion i saw show tech people walking the rows looking for games in trouble.
My Dr. Who went down, a pinball medic was able to do a quick board repair and had it up and running before I had a chance to look at it. A great team of repair guys this year, they were really on it!
Quoted from KenLayton:Welby was mentioning there were some machine breakdowns on Friday and early Saturday, but the machines did get fixed promptly from what I hear.
Also Welby did bring some of his parts supplies along and made parts available to folks to get their machines operational again. He sold lots of playfield glass too.
Welby, Okert, Shoemaker and the show all stock a lot of parts. Typically Friday is when the most machines go down, machines that arrived with problems or that hadn't been left one for more than a couple hours in years get noticed down or with errors and most get fixed. By Saturday afternoon usually most machines are up and there are few deemed un-savable within time constraints or parts supply of the show. I think there were only 5-7 of these.
