The TWIPYs are BACK! Spread the word!!

VOTE now for your pinball favorites from 2018!

https://www.thisweekinpinball.com/the-twipys-vote-now/

-----------------------

INITIAL POST:

Hi all, we're making some improvements to the TWIPY Pinball Awards this year!!

- LIVE Awards show at the Texas Pinball Festival
- Hosted by Zach and Greg from Straight Down the Middle
- Guest Presenters
- Acceptance Speeches
- Cash bar
- Live on Twitch

Voting will open 1.1.19

Most importantly, we formed a TWIPY Committee this year. The TWIPY Committee for this year includes Lloyd Olsen, Steve Bowden, Colin MacAlpine, William Oetting, Zach Meny, Greg Bone, and Jeff Patterson (me). The Committee will be responsible for determining game eligibility and categories, show and schedule coordination, and most importantly, maintaining the integrity of the voting process through a new online secure voting process, and helping review and validate results. We'll have more details on the online voting process when voting opens.

Check out the games and categories here: https://thisweekinpinball.com/coming-soon-the-twipy-pinball-awards-a-celebration-of-the-hobby/

And check out a video promo here:

Quoted from Rascal_H:

How come you can only vote for MBr in a couple of the categories.

Good question. The TWIPY Committee discussed and looked at which categories MBr should be eligible, based on which categories it differed enough from the original. For example, the Light Show and Display/Animations are significantly different from the original MB, but the Rules/Artwork/Layout etc are not much different. The Committee then held a vote to decide which categories it would be eligible for.

Hey we're stickied, thanks Robin!

Nothing to do while waiting for the Munsters reveal?

Quoted from DS_Nadine:

While most of us vote for TWIP for best Website, don't forget Pinball News...
...wich had an in depth analysis of Munsters on their side the next day pointing things noone found before (like more differences on the Pro vs. Premium/ LE playfield besides just the lower playfield).

Also don’t forget about the website we are all on right now, discussing the TWIPYs!

This year we're doing a LIVE awards show at the Texas Pinball Festival! It will be Saturday night of TPF (3/23), and will also be live streamed on Twitch (fingers crossed everything works). The TWIPY Committee just had a two hour meeting last Thursday to go through all the votes and throw out votes as necessary, this week we should have verification of the winners. Then order the trophies, etc.

We're working hard on getting things ready for the live show too - we may ask the community for some volunteer help with that as it is a big undertaking. But we're trying to make it a super fun show, which we're hoping it will be!

So trying to plan for TWIPY Party Saturday night. What time do they start? and which twitch feed?

The plan is to start them at 8:00PM Central/9:00PM Eastern next Saturday (23rd), though it might end up being 8:15/9:15 depending on how quickly we can get things set up and ready to go.

It will be on the SDTM twitch feed (https://www.twitch.tv/sdtmpinball), assuming everything goes according to plan (knock on wood)!

We've got a red carpet and everything, should be a fun time

Quoted from speederice:

I think it was awesome that they got John Rhys-Davies to present an award and do a few callouts from LOTR. Huge surprise for the audience, and was one of the best moments of the night. He seemed bewildered but also really amused that a room full of pinball fans would get such a kick out of him saying "Jackpot ONE!"

Funny story about that. For John and Butch Patrick, I wrote out exactly what they needed to say up there (all other presenters just did whatever they wanted). So I wrote out what he needed to say to introduce the nominees and present the award. (You can see when he is presenting there are yellow post it notes on the back of his envelope.) At the top I had written "Jackpot One!! Jackpot Two!!". As I'm talking him through how it would work when he's on stage, he asks what "Jackpot One" and "Jackpot Two" mean. I told him he may not remember, but they are some very famous callouts he did in LOTR, and that it is optional but if he says the callouts while he's up there, people will go crazy.

I then explained to him he didn't just "say" Jackpot One, but to do it right needed to yell JACKPOT ONNNEEEE!!! JACKPOT TWWWWOOOOOO!!!! - literally doing my best Gimli callout impression to him in the hallway of the Embassy Suites.

Backstage when the video rolled for the game nominees and people went nuts for games like Iron Maiden and POTC, I looked at him and he had this look of surprise/wonder. I told him we may be kind of nerdy but we are passionate! Haha.

He totally nailed it up there, definitely one of my favorite moments of the show.

Quoted from MonsieurCS:

Hey it's the booer here.
I'd like to set the record straight on what happened at the TWIPYs. For some background, I'm not a Kaneda listener, so I don't particularly care about his podcast antics (although I do think it's suspect that its heralded by so many, despite being a constant source of misinformation), but my anger toward Chris has to do with everything around his actions at last years NYCPC, which were thoroughly documented here:
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/a-strongly-worded-message-for-kaneda
There's still never been any apologies to the women who's final round he disrupted, nor an unconditional apology to the other 125 players, organizers and guests in the NYCPC, and it actually took this incident at the TWIPYs for him to finally apologize directly to Tim, this many months later, for the physical abuse he inflicted.
I haven't seen Chris since NYCPC. He doesn't play pinball in NYC at all, so this was my first opportunity to say something, and the TWIPYs seemed like an absolutely appropriate venue, one where he was literally being given an award for a podcast in which I've heard he talked constantly about what happened at the NYCPC.
The only person meant to be disrespected was Kaneda, and when he barged out of the venue to confront me after receiving his award, he got in my face, nose-to-nose, and told me I needed to "show him some respect", I just got to laugh in his face some more.
So that's what's happened. The event was great. Jonathan Rhys Davis was awesome.
And I wasn't drunk.

So Kaneda acts like a total asshole and disrupts an event that people have spent hundreds of hours working on for the pinball community.

And to get back at him, you act like an asshole and disrupt an event that people have spent hundreds of hours working on for the pinball community.

Got it, thanks for clearing that up.

Love the pictures @jar155, thanks for sharing. BTW, if anyone has any pictures you took during the TWIPYs that I could use, can you please share them here or email them to me ([email protected])?

Thanks Jeff, that means a lot! As you know we're listening to all feedback, good and bad, to make this as good as it can be (and try to make it a celebration of pinball!) and make it better each year.
