Quoted from Metaluna5:

I’d hate for a fun joke between Jeremy and I to turn into a running joke where destroy everything. That wasn’t the intention. Let’s just leave the destruction to the Twipy skit. And thanks very much for the compliment.

Chris;
It was obvious to me it was a joke, and it played just fine. for those peeps that don't get it, or were "scared" or "concerned" for their safety, etc. etc. Just another example of how fragile and sensitive this country has become. Don't change a thing brother, keep on being you. For those that don't understand, or want YOU to be more sensitive for THEM, I say BS to that.

My moto, is "be who you are" and if someone doesn't like you or is offended, then don't hang around, or want to be in my life. plain and simple. I understand that I am not for everyone, but if I have to change who I am or how I act to accommodate others, that's not me. And trust me, I am not a bully or an a-hole, but I tend to tell it like it is, and I wear my emotions on my sleeve.

Franchi giving me this at the end of Expo was better than a damn Twipy. Best thing I've ever brought home from a pinball show. Miles ahead of crabs and SFII.

Gryszzz grabbed a couple of cold ones and got crabs.

Lemmy just say it's easier to get rid of crabs than SFII.

Autographs, buffet style. All you can eat! You're right, that's sadly normal. Guess I'm not much of an autograph guy.

I'm with you. Autographs have zero value to me

I heard that the best way to kill them was with a little gasoline and a blow torch?

Gryszzz would light one side on fire and beat them to death with a bat when they come running to the other side.

I thoroughly enjoyed being at and watching the TWIPy's at TPF. Any thoughts I had about the idea of this show prior to the actual event were proven wrong by the massive success of the night and the huge turnout in attendance and online.

I'm big enough to admit I was wrong. This WAS a celebration of pinball. Kudos to Jeff Patterson, TWIP, and Zach & Greg for an amazing night! Congrats to each and everyone of the winners and nominees!

#415 4 years ago

Thanks Jeff, that means a lot! As you know we're listening to all feedback, good and bad, to make this as good as it can be (and try to make it a celebration of pinball!) and make it better each year.

I get that this is just a popularity contest and is extremely limited by the fact that most people voting will have never seen many of these games in person (or maybe at all). Having said that, I feel that ACNC should have done better in the artwork category, and honestly Thunderbirds has some pretty cool toys on the playfield and should have been higher there.

#420 4 years ago

All games got a least a couple votes for GOTY! Something for everybody...

#421 4 years ago

Hey pin2d

congrats on the show and TWIPYs in general... fantastic stuff! All the work you is awesome!

#422 4 years ago
Quoted from Fytr:

Agree, and I think it deserved more than 9.4% in the theme category.

I'm not sure the pure theme category is even necessary though. If we're going to award a company for just having a license, shouldn't Jody Dankberg or whoever come up to accept it? I care a lot more about what you DO with the theme, and there's already a category for that. Theme integration is where the designer comes in.

If we get more "original" themes in the future (e.g. BKSR, DI) it's nice to have the option of acknowledging them. Maybe have a "Best Original Theme" category instead? Of course you could question whether BKSR is an "original theme" since it's both licensed and a sequel. And there probably wouldn't be enough of these in a single year to make it much of a contest anyway.

Yup - pretty much why it's a popularity contest in an echo chamber... like most social media these days. Not nearly as bad as the pinside rankings.. but just as credible.. aka not much.

I do like the idea of celebrating the hobby and the new faces certainly know how to do it better than the expo dinosaurs... but what people actually yearn for is kinda scary at times.

Isn't any contest that's decided through voting a "popularity contest"? I don't see that as a problem, everyone knows that the TWIPYs are fans' choice awards, and aren't guaranteed to reflect the views of the pinball cognoscenti.

Suggestion for the write-in categories: winners are ineligible next year (or maybe next two years). Being a Chicago homer I of course support Dead Flip and Logan Arcade, but it's not fun if the same things could potentially win every year. Pinburgh seems like a lock to win its category for... ever. I love Pinburgh and voted for it, but I feel the awards are better if they can spread the love to a variety of deserving entities.

Good suggestion.

What's the point of the write-in? Can't you have a submit entries window and then put those entries to a vote?

PS - Can I say, I am still very surprised and pleased to have won the fav homebrew twipy. Great company with Airplane, Kill Bill, Good Vs Evil, Minions, and all the rest!

Next year ineligibility is too much of a "you're all winners" rule and anything can happen. Things generally have ebbs and flows, and new upstarts have a hunger to prove something. It's much more interesting to see how it plays out naturally.

For suggestions...the mod category will never allow for a game-specific mod to win if the inherently more significant, universal mods such as ColorDMD and Pinstadium are in the running every year (no other mods [or games in other categories] can be nominated outside the initial release year). Perhaps something here can change or have a separate category?

EDIT: I realize the mod category is odd in that only a fraction of Pinsiders will know of the game-specific mods, so perhaps that's not the best way. It seemed many would rather just pick a specific modder for the year rather than one specific mod. I see lots of cool mods over the year, but many for machines I don't own, and thus, I don't recall them as well after a year, but I generally have an idea of the modders that were consistently making cool stuff.

#430 4 years ago

Thanks for the thoughts and keep the suggestions coming - I'm taking notes on all these and we'll discuss them at length next year with the new TWIPY Committee to look at what our best options are.

#431 4 years ago

Best new mod - brought to you by pinstadium and colordmd.

Why isn't there percentages for the non-pinball categories?

I agree. Last year the category was best NEW mod. But this year it was more confusing. Write-in your favorite mod?! That’s a pretty big list. When I finally watched it on YouTube, there was even confusion as to how it was presented. Best mod of 2018? Favorite mod? I thought it was pretty ridiculous that my monkey wound up competing against Pinstadium and ColorDMD. Pinstadium was created two years ago. ColorDMD was created before that. So if these two continue to be nominated year after year, new game-specific mods won’t stand a chance. For the award to be taken seriously, it needs to be for new mods created each year, just like every other new game/theme/art etc. award. It’s like voting for Indiana Jones as best theme every single year. (which is how I would vote if I could.)

Totally agree! They should just give Color DMD and Pinstadium lifetime achievement awards and move on...

Quoted from DS_Nadine:

You discussion about The Hobbit will allways be in my heart as the best moment in pinball podcasting EVER.
(There are only two games I started and didn't want to finish yet. Gottlieb Super Mario -wich was on infinite Balls I guessed after Ball 8 and left- and The Hobbit.)

Fair enough. Had there been a TWIPY for Best Beating Sustained in a Pinball Debate Zach could have taken two awards home!
