Quoted from NicoVolta:Huge themes, ambitious design, fun to play. The golden age for Bally ('80-'81):
1. Eight Ball Deluxe
2. Flash Gordon
3. Centaur
4. Fathom
5. Medusa
6. Viking
7. Elektra
8. Embryon
Early golden age ('77-'79), still fun...
1. Harlem Globetrotters
2. Future Spa
3. Mata Hari
4. Space Invaders
5. Playboy
6. Paragon
7. Silverball Mania
8. Hotdoggin'
Beautiful misfires...
Lost World, Xenon, Spectrum, Nitro Ground Shaker, Voltan, KISS, Vecturd
You have Playboy at #5, yet consider KISS a misfire? It's actually a bit better IMO since it has the spinners. PB was great back in the day for the Grotto and bonus collect tune but those two features can get old fast in the home environment.
Quoted from Captive_Ball:I prefer Playboy over Kiss, like Nico as well.
Me too, never did care for Kiss
Bally Lost World was my first game and is still my favorite. Picked it up in 1996. I agree they could have done more to make the game better with the rules etc. The game is very tough to get a decent score. I'll never forget the first time I heard the game as I was used to chimes.....
Nitro Groundshaker is a classic and will kick your ass in 7 of 10 games. The outlanes are brutal. Gotta man up for that one too.
I don't know. I have a mint Kiss sitting right next to a mint Playboy and I end-up playing the Kiss more than the Playboy although I like them both.
I play my KISS machine more than the Playboy as well. Like them both though. Playboy seems more stingy w/the points. Probably all the women on it.........

Agreed, PB is stingy with the points!

I guess the thing that bugs me most about KISS is the symmetrical layout. It's the same issue I have with Night Rider: Almost great, but a little too symmetrical. The KISS spinners aren't that easy to hit, either. I think Playboy is a better looking game though I agree it probably doesn't offer enough gameplay or variety of sounds to withstand the test of time in a home environment.
I might have owned a Space Invaders if only they hadn't put that annoying WA-YA-WA-YA-WA-YA-WA-YA-WA-YA alarm in it. Alas, they did the same thing on Viking. I'm sure it got lots of attention in the noisy old arcades of yesteryear... but at home it's just torture.
Quoted from 85Txaggie:My Top Bally List would be:
Centaur
Eight Ball Deluxe
Flash Gordon
Medusa
Fathom
+2

Bally should've put the Playboy theme into the Kiss layout.
