    3. Iron Man
    4. POTC
    5. SM
    6. FG/Shrek
    7. LOTR
    8. KISS

I haven't come close to playing all Sterns, and I assume this is only modern Sterns, but her is my top ten. I know some of these games are not complete, but are still really good as they currently stand:

    1) Tron LE
    2) MET LE
    3) ACDC Prem/LE
    4) LOTR
    5) ST Prem/LE
    6) TWD
    7) Sopranos
    8) TSPP
    9) SM
    10) IM

    Quoted from BackFlipper:

    Needs a little work:
    1) AC/DC
    2) LOTR
    3) Metallica
    4) STLE
    5) IM
    6) TWD
    7) TRON
    TSPP tied with SM
    9) FG/SHREK
    10) POTC
Why does 8 with ) always switch to a smiley guy?

I like your top 10 list waaaaayyyyy better! Move over Letterman!

    Quoted from Olddragon:

So, the top 3 machines on the list made by a retailer are all still available from Stern. Hmmm...

Good point. Hmmm maybe the channel is stuffed with product and this [cough] piece of journalism is meant to help unload it?

    Quoted from 85vett:

What was the criteria on ratings? Was there something like the pinside rating system used where each game was given ratings for different features and then it was added up or was it just a simple, everyone list out your favorites? Curious as that list seems way out of sync with the feedback I see reg around here.
I haven't played but maybe 50% of Sterns game in good condition and I think you should have time on all their games in good condition before ranking them. For instance, I hated Tron when I played it on route only. Played one in a HUO enviroment and fell in love with it as it played so much different. But, since you asked. Here is my top 10 based off games I feel I've played enough in order to rank them:
    rankings.jpg

For good or for bad, you forgot Rolling Stones!

    #56 4 years ago

I personally can see ST in the top 3. A lot of people still have a bitter taste from old code but with new code I don't see selling it ever as of right now. Not 1 right now but 3rd maybe. As an owner of it TWD could end up there but with unfinished code its hard to rank so high. Family Guy I can't see in the top 10 at all. I'd probably rank as follows:
    1.)Tron Pro or Premium
    2.)ACDC Premium
    3.)ST Pro or Premium
    4.)Met Pro or Premium
    5.)LOTR (not LE)
    6.)TWD Premium
    7.)SM
    8.)TSPP
    9.)IM
    10.)RBION

As everyone else I am sure I am bias based on my personal collection but that's my list.

    #57 4 years ago

Surprised nobody has mentioned Nascar yet.

    #58 4 years ago
    Quoted from schudel5:

Does 'of all time' only include the last 14 years or all the way back to 1977? If we can include the classics, my list would look much different.

of all time means of all time in Stern's history. It is a stern only list.

    Quoted from o-din:

Surprised nobody has mentioned Nascar yet.

    #61 4 years ago
    Quoted from gambit3113:

This. Why make the list at all? Just list the ones for sale.

this has nothing to do with stock. we can get stock of any of the machines.

We had 4 people in work do their top 10 and we averaged out the machines. Our director LOVES the walking dead machine and has the top version at home. Another guy also rates it, that's why it's number 2.

I personally think metallica is best, bit biased as I'm a huge metallica fan though. List has nothing to do with selling the pins.

    #62 4 years ago
    Quoted from DefaultGen:

Maybe they have the most stock of ST, second most of TWD, and the least stock of MET?

again, this list is just OPINION. nothing to do with stock.

We haven't got the AC/DC top end in showroom so we haven't played it. I felt the standard edition is rubbish and so did all the other members of staff. Again opinion, we want discussion on the machines as we all love pinball.

    #63 4 years ago

    1. ST
    2. IM
    3. Tron
    4. TSPP
    5. MET
    6. SM
    7. LOTR
    8. WPT
    9. Avatar
    10. Avengers

    Quoted from Warbound:

Good point. Hmmm maybe the channel is stuffed with product and this [cough] piece of journalism is meant to help unload it?

You guys are looking way too deeply into this. We state in the blog post it's the opinion of 4 members of staff. Nothing to do with sales. If we wanted to shift certain machines we would spend more time on advertising it on other channels, not making a blog post and getting discussion.

Everyone prefers different machines. It the same as console gaming, get 5 friends together and they will have a huge variety of games in their top 10. Opinion isn't wrong, it's just opinion.

    10)Meteor

I really do enjoy playing these last three more than the other newer Sterns so....they made my list.

    #68 4 years ago

I think KISS will eventually land in the Top 10 somewhere I've only played the Pro model and despite it being rom version .92 it's a very enjoyable pin with fantastic art and great flow. Better ROM version will only improve an already very good pinball machine from the time I've spent playing it.

4 people? Yowsa that is quite a small sampling or survey. I think it explains alot. Personally I am the kind of guy tbat believes top lists should be strictly based on both profit and unit numbers. Together these numbers guarantee an unbiased or non-skewed result. Unfortunately getting that information from Stern and other producers is near impossible. Second best would to at least have a large sampling of raters/opinions. The more the better...gj on your list for what your trying to accomplish though!

I go to places with many rare games, but once I play Tron , I do not leave it.

Why didn't you play more (fill in the blank)

    Tron is the reason.

So challenging, perfect theme, cool mods.

    I need a Tron.

    no, no, no

Stern from the 80's and Stern now, are two different companies. They are only the same "in name". If they were the same, you should include Data East and Sega as well. LOL.

Thanks for the kind words. We are actually working on an ultimate list type of thing. We are making an infographic and we are working closely and speaking to Stern to get sales figures and other figures not released to the public. We are essentially just building it up to an official list made from figures not opinion.

We have a formula made we are just waiting for stern figures to complete the list. It will also include the most successful designers etc.

I mean taking our opinion too seriously, we want serious discussion about pinball but this list is opinion only and opinion is welcome.

Official list will be launching soon, complete figures in a really cool infographic. We have spent months doing it, this is the build up.

What pin would you like to see Stern release next? Personally hoping for Game of Thrones! So many possibilities for an awesome playfield.

the "official" list is coming soon? "official" in what regards? officially, an opinionated list created by 4 people with limited access to only a certain number of machines?

    <begin sarcasm>
next up, my "official" list of the most awesome exotic sports cars in the world
(note: 'most awesome' includes only those cars in my price range (circa 1990) and that my neighbors and I currently or have owned in the past)

here's the top 3 of my preliminary list. official list coming soon

Not in any order, but the top 10 would be:

RBION, Tron, SM, IM, XM, POTC, Met, ACDC, LOTR, and TSPP

On a personal note, I would put Monopoly and WPT in that list, but I know I am in the minority with that

In regards we will be using the pinside system + ipdb.org + stern figures that are not publically available. We have made a system where it's fair and unbiased and that means we can include all sales from every pinball machine sold in history.

This will be the most complete and accurate list.

Appreciate the sarcasm, but you don't read the comments fully. We explained this above how we were going to do the official list. No opinion is includes just facts and figures.
