    Quoted from SadSack:

I think if the shutdowns aren't mandatory, arcades will be busy. I can't believe how people are falling for all this nonsense. I thought people learned a little from 911. I guess it's more fun to act emotionally than to honestly assess reality.

I'm not sure what lessons you're suggesting be learned from 9/11 here. I see lots of people online saying stuff like "I'm not going to let it stop me!" as if this virus was a terrorist attack.
    It's not.
It's a pandemic that needs everyone to treat it like a pandemic.

    Notes from Ottawa:
Our two biggest arcades have closed for C-19. House of Targ and The Neighborhood Pub arcades are both shuttered for the time being.
When they reopen I swear I'm going to go into each and drop a stack of coins in and let all the kids have the free games.

I am really especially scared for all of my American friends.

Don't be, we'll be just fine.

I really hope so, with all my heart. But I have worry.

No good solutions. Do you want millions to die sooner than they otherwise would or tens of millions living in poverty for the next generation or two?

    is this parody?

"3 Days of Darkness" may soon be upon us. This thing might be over a lot sooner than most think. Watch a few videos tagged #filmyourhospital on FB, Twitter or Instagram. You might be surprised.

That's all fringe conspiracy people. The world doesn't need those grifters, now especially.

*gasp* Musee Mechanique is in trouble. Please donate and share if you can.

oh no! I will definitely donate.
And of course we're so relieved they weren't hurt in the pier fire there a few weeks ago.

Alamo Drafthouse Movie Theaters are letting you have private showings:

Local repitle-focused animal rescue place kept it's lights on by doing parties and such, but are now booking private tours. https://raysreptiles.com/
you can also book SLOTH ENCOUNTERS and go hang out with their sloths and other animals for 90 minutes.
    Very tempting splurge...

    Quoted from pookycade:

As it stands right now, we have at least a year of runway before us before I decide it just isn't worth it anymore. If we can increase by just another 20% from where we are right now (which would be 30% pre-pandemic versus current 25% pre-pandemic), the actions we are taking now will guide us into a sustainable, but admittedly bare bones business. Still would you rather have 100 games on the floor and another 70 in storage and be out of business or have 90 games on the floor and be in business. The choice is obvious here.

I really appreciate your breakdown of the business side here

    #1097 3 years ago

Ooof guess we're not doing cross border pin tourism for a while still.
Almost every pinhead I know used to visit USA at least once a year for a pinball trip.

    Quoted from zr11990:

They should and I hope they win. You can’t shut down businesses which are people’s bread and butter for a virus. Especially one with a 98% recovery rate.

we have a whole other COVID thread you can go get ejected from.

there is now a gofundme to help save Cabin Fever in Toronto if anyone can spare some cash. I've been there before and it's an incredible place.

just check the sign, who doesn't love PINBALL BEER VINYL???

    EDIT:
    there's also this thread https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/save-cabin-fever-save-location-pinball-in-toronto

do you know the economics of it? Like, if we can get her $10k can she survive until spring?

toronto leases can be absolutely brutal.

It’s about 1/3rd of the way to the goal so I really think it’s doable.

Love to see Ed Robertson from The Barenaked Ladies on the board as well!

I've been closed since March and have repurposed my arcade into a retail showroom, repair facility, and parts store in anticipation that I will not open again until at least next summer, but hopefully further South you guys can keep going through the winter months. Best of luck to all!

that's quite some resiliency, I wish you the best of luck! fingers crossed

    Quoted from pookycade:

Some very mild inklings of hope here.
$4300 over the last 3 weekends which was significantly better than all of December. Yay ! I’m not gonna count that it holds, but I’ll take it for the positive it is and not get too overly optimistic here.
Vaccine is slowly rolling out in my community. And yes if wondering I got my second shot last Monday as a physician (and you should too when it’s your turn - benefit WAY outweighs any risk). Hugely thankful that I can see my elderly patients with a significantly reduced risk of infecting them unknowingly.
Even got 2 more games delivered that were bought pre-pandemic. What a journey that has been.
Stay safe everyone and keep helping your customers stay safe too.

OMG, good news? In this thread? That's all amazing to hear. Fingers crossed for you and your community.

    Quoted from NicoVolta:

Update: January was better, and February might be better still. The public is restless to get out and do things.

Under the newest guidelines we can allow up to 25 people indoors at a time, but we have voluntarily limited the maximum to 15 since our reopening last July. However, now that we've been selling out lately, we have raised the limit to 20.

I don't know you and probably will never visit your arcade, but this is very heartening to read. It's a sign of life! It's flowers sprouting in the spring! It's hope!

Ottawa arcade House Of Targ has re-opened on a limited schedule http://www.houseoftarg.com/
(though there might be another lockdown as the UK variant spreads through Canada, and vaccine deliveries have been choked)

What are the downsides to mall locations? I assume noise would be a problem.
A lot of malls built in the 80s that seem perpetually half full here and wish they could have pinball arcades...
Are the leases still too ridiculous at the struggling malls?
