If you have a ball locked, and roll over the lit last chance, the locked ball will kickout and you can keep playing.

That gate is suppose to score. It advances the lights infront of the lane until you hit it enough to light extra ball. If you shoot that shot quickly, it will sometime not register. It has been a long time since I worked on a Tag Team, but that spring should connect to a switch similar to a spinner leaf switch under the playfield.
