This is a great thread! I've been thinking of trying SM2k on a project game because I don't have a compressor/gun etc. Spray paint and I have a terrible success rate. I tried spraying an old guitar once and it came out a cracked mess in the end. I'm glad to see people are having some good results though. Makes me want to try it even more!

Quoted from Curbfeeler:

Funny, I can't decide if I'm glad I found the stuff of sorry. Depends on the hour, I guess. I'm probably going to end up going the full HVLP setup at some point in the not so distant future. SprayMax does have pros in the pro column, certainly, but you end up losing the ability to tweak several things (spray pattern, flow, fish eye, mixture, etc.).
Dan

Well if it goes badly can you sand the clear down until you get rid of the imperfections and start again or maybe give up and get a HVLP setup? To dangerous?

Quoted from Curbfeeler:

These are the tiny pinpricks I have on my playfield currently. This was my third coat. They are hard to photograph, but you can feel them. For my money, these are solvent pop bubbles caused by spraying and curing at a less than ideal temp.
I don't think they are related in any way to the fisheye problems I had early on, which I think was probably contamination (fish eye). Lots of sanding, but I'm working through it and expect a spectacular result.
Dan

The fish eye problem you had in your earlier pics are gone? Did you just sand and use a pipette to fill in the fish eye areas? Just wondering how you are fixing the fish eye.

I remembered that I want to clear my turd of an eight ball deluxe so I have a smooth surface to apply an overlay I found for it. I hadn't thought of this but, can you just spray SM2k on bare wood or does it need to be primed or treated with something first? If I screw this up, uhh not sure if thats even possible because its trash to begin with, I can just sand back down to wood if necessary.
