Question.

So I just sprayed my PF. Light first coat heavy second coat. I'm noticing orange peal. Do I sand then spray a final coat?
Or spray final coat over orange peel then sand buff?

Thanks for any advice

Yes !! my local napa carries them. $20.
Can order more and have them in two days if needed.
And the weather is perfect, time to prep.

Quoted from gutz:

I looked into that same item about a month ago. The single pack is for 2K clear, but the double was for 1K according to the pictures. They now have one picture of 2k and the rest of 1K for the double pack option. You better ask exactly what you are getting!!!

Ordered a 4 pac! Will let you know, my confirmation email says 368 0061. So we will see.

Who likes oranges?
First coat on Hollywood Heat.
Plan is to let it dry, sand and respray?

Quoted from Skins:

That looks more like contamination than orange peel.

Hmm can't imagine what. So I sanded it well with 600 grit, naptha, then used mx-8000 (removes silicone) before i sprayed.

Could it be I just suck at spraying, was I to close or to far?

#405 6 years ago

Thanks for the replies. I will keep at!

I'll re sand tomorrow with 600 and then respray.
Yea hope those cans get here quick, and the right ones. If not I can go to napa and grab another can.

Thanks everyone.

Update:
Sanded with 1500 this morning
Cleaned with naptha
Sprayed a light coat
Rinse repeat for 2 light coats.
Just now hit it with a heavier coat, and really starting to look good.
So far I have a one and half cans used. I expect another half can or a little more.
But looking great!

Quoted from Plumonium:

Don't be shy. A wet coat is close to a full can.

Sounds good. I'll wait till tomorrow, sand again and toss on a heavy coat. Looks I'll be running to buy another can

#416 6 years ago

Great news. My cans arrived today.

All are 2k clear glamour. $15 per can!!

Quoted from AMBoggs:

Which seller did you end up using?
I found out a few days ago that these things have a definite shelf life. I tried activating a can that I had from a couple years ago and it was a dud.

All cans are stamped 6 22 17
A assume that it the canned date not the experation date

Seller was TCP global

How long till I can start assembling this thing? Not to play it just get it back together.

Thanks

Putting the final coat on my buccanneer and I got some pretty nasty cloudy/milky looking areas.
Any ideas what caused this? Think sanding and buffing will cure It? Ugh!
You see the 6 nice and clear, 4,5 Not so much

Quoted from Skins:

My guess would be temp/humidity. What were the environmental conditions when applying and when it was curing?

That pic was taken immediately after spraying. Its 80 degrees out, a little humid but not sure exactly.
Will it cure clear? I'll take a pic in a couple hours

Quoted from dr_nybble:

I am looking on the SprayMax site.
They state coverage as: Approx. 0.5 – 0.75 m^2 / spray can at approx. 30 – 50 μm dry film thickness
A standard playfield is 0.55m^2 so seems that one can should do one playfield?

I guess that would work if the can went on smoothly perfect conditions ect.. For me however I end doing lots of sanding to fix my f-ups

#442 6 years ago

Great news. Cured crystal clear. Looks like I have a little more work to do around the inserts. Time to break out the dropper? Or do you guys think a heavy coat will fill it?

I did dry sanding this last time. I did however use water with a tiny drop of dishwash soap to clean the paper during. So I guess I did a dry/wet sanding. It sure helped the paper last longer but I still went through a bunch of it. Oh well it's cheap and cut way down on the mess.

Quoted from hepgeek:

Nice! My Genesis PF is on the CC project list for next summer. Are you planning to do any special masking to the robot window opening? I've been pondering for awhile and worried that the CC layer thickness will make it so the plexi won't fit back into the hole.
Edit: Also, nice Black Widow in the BG.

thanks, i just took the plexi off and taped it off real good. Used an x-acto to really get close, worst case i have to sand a little. Its coming out real nice, clear is laying down great!
