Is there any guidance related to humidity? I live in Florida and the humidity will be very high for the next 4 months or so. I'd like to clear coat my Space Mission now, but don't want to ruin it for humidity reasons. My lack of skill is a different problem.

Quoted from Toasterdog:

I sprayd on back porch. 90 degrees, 90% humidity. Looks awesome. PPE sucked though.

What is "PPE"

I would like to put a couple of coats on my playfield this weekend, but don't want to mess it up. In the morning the temperature starts out in the mid 70's with humidity in the high 90's. As the day goes on the temperature rises to around 90 with humidity in the mid 70's. I will have to paint in the garage with the door open so I can't control the environment. Is there a sweet spot for temperature and humidity for this product? I've struggled to this point with filling in my cupped inserts and really need this next and last step to go smoothly. Is there a temperature or humidity limit?

I put three light, but wet coats on it last weekend and used about 3/4 of the can. I still have to sand it flat and do the polish thing, but I think or at least hope this is it for spraying.

A couple of months ago I called a technical rep from SprayMax to ask a few questions. I was having problems with out-gassing while filling my severely cupped inserts. He suggested multiple light coats with an eyedropper allowing it to cure 48 hours between coats. He also suggested I do it in a temperature/humidity controlled environment instead of my hot garage. While this sounded like great advice I mentioned I would need to do at least 3 or 4 coats which with the recommended cure time would mean another 3 or 4 cans. He stated I can safely extend the life of the can to 7 days if I kept it in the fridge after activating it. I mentioned that I noticed my previous can was still liquid after 4 days at room temperature and was probably still good. He said that while it was still a liquid at that point the product inside the can was starting to cure and if I cut the can open I would find lumps of crystals. He said the liquid was mostly the propellant and not a usable product. I was fortunate and was able to fill my inserts with 4 coats and stayed within the 7 day window without any problems. It has now been three weeks and the can still has liquid in it, but I wouldn't use it. I need to throw it out.

This is a progress picture of my Jacks Open project. I’m applying decals now and will go with 2 more coats of Spraymax. I like the results so far.

This site cracks me up some times. You’d think in a clear coat thread there’d be little to no drama. I’m trying to get some legit help with a knowledge transfer from people that have used this stuff and all people care about are side rails being left on a project playfield

I think the third pass is enough. It looks great. More isn’t necessarily better.

I finished my Jacks Open today. Spraymax works great.

Quoted from mrm_4:

Is your water slide the yellow insert? How did you go about it? Sand around or not sand at all?

Here are recent pictures of both sides. I did sand lightly with I believe 800 grit before I applied the decals. When I look closely I can see light scratches on the plastic inserts, but not a huge deal. The key lines around the inserts as well as the 5000 when lit and 1000 when lit are decals.

silverstreak02 Looks good!
So I went back to my playfield I’m clearing and sanded a small area from 600 and stepped up to 2000 then novus 2.
MAJOR improvement!
I guess I’m good with paper I have. Now just need to figure out where to get them printed.

Staples did mine.

I had a similar issue when using a glass beaker and a glass eye dropper. I solved it by buying a cheap can of regular 2 PAC mixing it per the instructions and then applied it with my glass eye dropper. No more bubbles after that. Well worth the extra $40.

#1087 3 years ago

Spraymax is great for the playfield, but not so much for filling the inserts.

#1089 3 years ago

I bought this from Amazon or E-bay I can’t remember which one.

Quoted from wayinla:

So this was compatible with the SprayMax?

Yes I didn’t have any problem with the two playfields I used it on. It was used to fill some badly cupped inserts. I filled them a few times to get them level. Sometimes with coats of Spraymax in between as I sealed in paint colors.

Quoted from mark532011:

I had a tough time putting white numbers on a dark background. When I airbrushed using a mask, the white tended to lift. I tried decals but the white was not very opaque. So I went with white vinyl cut from my cameo and then covered with the spraymax. It came out great with no problems [quoted image]

White letters/numbers has always been a problem for me. I like your results. Did you have a problem with the thickness of the vinyl?

Has anyone used Montana acrylic paint markers for the key lines? If you have has there been any problems with compatibility with the Spraymax.

Quoted from Garrett:

I have a question for those that have used this clear coat on EM machine. Does it dramatically effect the intended gameplay?
I have an Aztec I'm working on and need to clear it when completed. [quoted image]

I have four EM’s and all four are cleared. Due to cupped inserts and excessive wear there was no way I could be happy with them as is. The ball rolls smoothly and is pretty fast. I doubt I will ever own one without doing a complete repaint and clear.

I used Spraymax on both of these.
