    Press Release

IFPA Australia and IFPA New Zealand announce the launch of the biggest pinball tournament ever seen "down under" ...

    The Southern Hemisphere Pinball Championships

The top pinball players from Australia and New Zealand will gather to battle for pinball supremacy. Players from around the globe are also invited to attend.

This event will alternate annually between Auckland, New Zealand, and Sydney, Australia, and be run in the month of October.

The inaugural event will be held at the RD Arcade, located south of Auckland, and run over 2 1/2 days, starting on Friday the 19th of October (Labour Weekend in NZ)

There will be 3 large tournaments run over the weekend, culminating in the main Southern Hemisphere Pinball Championship.

These events will rival some of the larger competitive pinball competitions on the planet, and are an awesome opportunity for local players to experience competitive pinball at the highest level.

    Quoted from kimzone:

last week in timezone Flip Frenzy events in gold coast was awesome. it would be awesome if you could do Flip Frenzy Friday 19th October 5pm:

    It’s under consideration.

    My issues with Flip Frenzy:

1/ the better game you have, the worse it is for flip frenzy format

2/ Flip frenzy seems to be ripe for collusion. “You’re better than me, no way I can beat you, let’s plunge out and get back to the desk”

IMO pinball comps should be highest score ... or highest skill in case of Pingolf ... wins. Not who finishes games the fastest.

EG: I got 240,000,000 on Metallica at my last Flip frenzy. That’s pretty f**king awesome! However in the Flip frenzy format, that’s bad. Because it took ages to get 240,000,000. Seems weird to me. 240,000,000 on Metallica should be a winning achievement, not a loosing one.

    I’ve caved.

    LIKELY FORMAT:

    FRIDAY 19TH: Doors open 5pm.
    - Flip Frenzy starts 6pm sharp, to be run by Dan Robar

    SATURDAY 20TH: Doors open 9am.

    - Playoff format: Top qualifiers will have a bye .... Other players will battle head-to-head on a bank of 3 pins chosen by the top seed. Best of three wins and progresses.

    SHPC UPDATE:

After experiencing the awesomeness of Pinburgh over here in the States, I have decided to alter the format of the SHPC slightly so now it is FULL MINI PINBURGH!

Games will be played in groups of 4 with 3,2,1,0 scoring. Main change comes in the finals, where you will play in groups of 4 with the top two players advancing to the next round. 4 player groups all the way to the end. Same as Pinburgh!

    25 spots left!

I'll be hitting the Melbourne Matchplay weekend first, and turning up in NZ on Tuesday. For some reason Monday the 15th was super expensive between Melbourne and Auckland... any idea why

That’s the way it is with airfares ... one day is expensive, the next day is half the price. No rhyme nor reason half the time.

You should set up a business in the states selling decent Jam.

I'm pleased to announce that Hallertau, one of NZ's leading brewers, is coming on board as the principle sponsor of the Southern Hemisphere Pinball Championships.

More details of the sponsorship will be announced next week.

Thanks to Hallertau for their generous sponsorship, and thanks also Lewis Tennant from the Verbal Highs Podcast for helping to make this happen.
