I'm a member fo the club as of a few weeks ago. The game was routed but is in very good condition considering. I'm having a few issues with certain shots registering even without hitting them, and the Merlin kickout throws the ball into the pops then right back in to Merlin.

My 5 year old son loves Donkey Pinball, and when my wife was playing the other day I caught her trying to hold back a smile. Looks like its a keeper!

I’ve switched this thread from the Stern sub forum into the Club sub forum.

So, I’m in the club! Just bought a Shrek last week and can’t wait for delivery. Any must have mods?

Quoted from chatplume51:

600 produced,right ?

What’s the basis for the 600 number? I’ve seen it mentioned a great deal but can’t find the source and Stern doesn’t release production numbers.

Jack told me it was 500 when I bought mine new from him, but I don’t think anyone, outside of Stern, knows for certain.

Love those speaker grills you have in there. Where did you find them?

A couple thoughts and questions:

1. It has been some time since I owned a Stern from this era. The LED flicker is pretty intense. Any recommendations to reduce it? Maybe a different type of LEDs or the driver board? Does that help?

2. Is there a download to get the actor voices in the call outs rather than the sound alikes? The sound alikes are not terrible, but they aren’t Eddie Murphy and mike Myers...

Thanks!

#58 3 years ago

Okay, thanks to herg and his board I hope to have solved the light board matter.

So, anyone ever do a sound package with the actors for Shrek? If so, pm me please!

Shrek for 7.2k lol

Wow, I can't believe it was already 4 years ago when I started this topic/club. We still enjoy the game. My daughter, now 17, still considers it her favorite pinball machine. Of course, I let her have input on picking it out when she was 13 at Allentown so that's probably part of it.

Since the game doesn't seem to be leaving our collection, I'm going to consider putting LEDs in it. I haven't really looked at LED kits in awhile but I see some recent posts about flickering. Any suggestions for a good kit (and avoiding flickering)?

Thanks.

My buddy and I bought two games from papa. One was a Shrek. Could someone tell me how many balls are supposed to be in the captive ball? It seems really hard to spell pinball.

#62 2 years ago

I don’t have my shrek anymore to check, but my recollection is there are four “balls” in that mechanism, two Newton balls on posts and two captive. The two captive balls were separated from each other by a post under the donkey pinball play field (should be able to see in the manual). By default every hit to the lower captive ball gave a pinball letter.

I do recall reading something about a more difficult setup where the post separating the two captive balls was removed and there would only be one captive ball. Then you’d need to alternate shots on the two. Seems like something that might be done to a papa machine. To get back to stock you’d need to remove the donkey pinball upper play field and replace that post.

I put LED's in mine and the flickering drove me nuts. I actually considered going back to incandescent. I ended up getting the OCD board but had to change the non ghosting LEDs to standard LEDs. The OCD board solve the flickering problem and it looks really good. I got the LEDs from comet.

PAPA definitely did that mod to their Shrek and Family Guy games to keep the mini pinball to a minimum.

I think that is exactly what they did, removed the post! I'll give my buddy a call and see if he can confirm. Because I recall seeing the two balls both on one side. Thanks!

Reimported a Shrek game from Italy along with 3 other games a year ago. It clearly had been on location to say the least. Deep cleaned the entire pf, new incandescent bulbs, rubbers and a few replaced transistors and a fabricated aluminum mount for the Pinocchio drop target, and she's been reliable and fun ever since. Even after a year I still love the game. It's one of my "relaxing and fun" games. Always a favorite of my wife and grandchild. Please consider me in the Shrek club! I admit that I'm getting deep in Spooky games but Shrek along with Apollo 13 are anchor pins at my home.

Aflacjack Whoa, are those LED light strips aiming down on either side of the playfield? That looks GREAT! I've never seen that before! Where did you get those and how was the install? Are you happy with them?

Yes they are. I have a buddy that makes them. Simple install and I LOVE being able to see when I play. Plus they really brighten everything up and the colors are customizable.

Hello,
New Shrek owner here.
I’m looking for a plastics kit or at a minimum the two sling shot plastics. I’d like to find one new of each to scan and have several copies made.

Thank you
Shriner Dave

I can maybe scan mine and send them to you? I am pretty sure I got the last NOS plastic set a while back and have it installed in my machine. I kept the old ones in case you are interested in those?

Has anyone put mylar over the word pinball for added protection?

#73 1 year ago

So I switched over to titan rubbers for my posts and slings and now have an issue with the ball getting stuck when going down the right insane between the post and the sling. Anyone else have this issue? If so, what was the fix?

Quoted from bowtech:

My response isn't going to help you but since it's so quiet here I didn't want you to think no one was reading...
Since my game is a reimport that was routed, there's no reason in my mind to mylar the pf but that's just my take. After a massive cleaning my pf still looked very good. I have put cling vinyl down on my new HUO game pf's especially where there are ball drops. The cling vinyl works but occasionally I need to press down edges. I prefer it since I can easily remove it when cleaning the pf.

I found the action on my game good enough and haven't used Titan bands on my Shrek. Sorry, no help, I know.

Looks great! What companies color DMD is that? Specific model? I haven't looked at them lately. Your post is renewing my interest.

That's colordmd lcd version. I have the lcd one in my Metallica and loved it. I think the blending looks better than the dots for cartoon images

Anyone thinking about selling their Shrek that's close to the atlanta area?

#82 1 year ago
Quoted from Jon9508:

They are hard to find. Check auctions as the heavily routed ones are more likely to come up. Thats how I got mine

#83 1 year ago

I will. Maybe I will get lucky.

#84 1 year ago

Best wishes for finding one. Being low production makes them challenging to find in good condition. At the time (2008), the home market was smaller and many of the one's on route are really beat up at this point. I do enjoy the game and consider it a bit of a classic from a theme and the mini pinball toy standpoint. Certainly not a top 10 machine but memorable and I still enjoy it 6 years later.

#85 1 year ago

We have one bought it NIB way back when, but my daughter won't let me sell it as it is the only game she can beat me when we play it.

I have a little bit of that same situation. My daughter is now 19 and in college but she helped pick Shrek 6 years ago and has a special attachment to it. When I raise the possibility of selling/swapping with another game, I get a strong "No!".

Going through the same thing with my son and our Stern premium Star Wars. He basically doesn't play it anymore but he tells me I can't sell it.

I have a HUO with matching powdercoated coin door and rail lights I may part with. It has color dmd and green titan rubbers. Pm if interested further. I am not far from Atlanta.

I forgot the cliffy too. Pics are in my theater and super low light. Sorry.

I recently picked up a Shrek on trade. Stern website has code 1.41 available and my game is showing 1.42 so just wondering if anyone has some insight on the game code history or what I might lose loading 1.41 (because we want to check out the family guy callouts just for fun)

Thanks-

Interesting. I havent payed attention to the code version but now I might. Its probably just some balancing of scoring or something with the wizard mode that I cant seem to get to.

I would email Stern about it. There may be a way to copy the code to a usb drive before you overwrite it with the Family Guy software.
