I've got about 6 months experience working on pinnies and looking for some help. I recently purchased a Shadow from Brisbane and shipped it 2000 miles to Adelaide. It was working fine before it left, now it has some problems.

1. The DMD has vertical lines every 8 dots at all times, the attached image is from the end of the DMD test. During the in game video mode the DMD shows garbage and updates about 1 frame per second.

2. Background music works ok and some speech, but sound effects are missing from the game. Very occasionally all the sound disappears, and then the background music comes back.

I have tried reseating all of the connectors and have pressed against the chips. This has not made a difference, although prior to doing this the upper flipper and half of the controlled lamps didn't work. Reseating fixed these things.

My plan is to look for dry joints and repin connectors, maybe replace the ribbon cable. I am wondering if there are any ideas about where to focus my efforts? Thanks.

The first thing I did was put in a new ribbon cable that joins the MPU to the sound card and DMD. This fixed the problem. No need to clean the pins. Thank you very much for the advice!!!
