Hi,

picked up my Shadow 2 weeks ago, and after a bad start (ground short in multiple rows due to tilt switch at coin door, searched two evenings for this , still more problems seem to come up:

The right lower flipper coil seems to have only one diode attached, how bad is this? Do i need to take care of this immediately, or can this wait a bit? Flipper itself is working fine by the way.ts2_coildiode.jpgts2_coildiode.jpg

I can't hit much with the right top flipper, also when making the left loop and then just holding the top flipper will send the ball directly to the leftmost outlane in 9 out of 10 cases. I watched the Papa tutorial yesterday and realized the upper flipper on their machine, when hold, extends much farther than mine. Picture shows mine fully extended, seems a bit shallow. Can someone take a look at theirs and maybe post a picture? ts1_upperflipper.jpgts1_upperflipper.jpg

Thanks!
-Marc

Quoted from someoneelse:

Probably it's just not adjusted correctly, it should extend much further. What does it look like in resting position? The outer rim of the flipper bat is supposed to be aligned with the metal ballguide above it (or on the rear side parallel to the orange-red stripes on the plastic). It should not touch anything in resting position.

I know the front side is aligned in resting position but I have to check the back side. Good idea, maybe it is just pushing against the back and the flipper just needs rotation - I'll take a look at it this evening.

Flipper is fixed, someone installed it already half-way extended. I guess someone wanted those shadow loops to be impossible

About the diodes, can anyone advice? Had so much small problems with the machine and I fear I'll blow a board when playing it. Both the right flippers (lower and upper) are missing one diode - will the fliptronic compensate this or blow sooner or later?

Same here, not a technical guy. I already thought the same, maybe they are somewhere else? But then, why would anyone "hide" the diodes of those two coils, but not the third? I cleared the cabinet after the buy and found al lot of things, but no diodes, so they seem to be missing either on purpose or by error. The history of the machine is unknown, but I suspect it was at least once out in the field to make money, because there were other strange findings. So far:

- two cables to first lower section of coin slot where clearly cut with a tool and dangling around. Why not pull of the connector instead?
- ground cable of coin door was never attached at all
- old coins in cabinet
- slingshot switches crazy tight and bend (took me 2 hours to fix that)
- game rom is L-2

Anyways, besides not understanding electronics to well, I also have nearly no soldering experience. Luckily, I can get those tasks delegated But that would take a while longer and I also need to organize spare parts first. And currently my problem is: I *need* to play it, but don't want to risk any possiblity of severe damage. It's itching on the inside - the Shadow has been standing here for more than week and all I did wiht it was to fix this and tune that.

Quoted from vid1900:

Install the proper diodes on the coils.
You might think of the diodes as surge suppressors, protecting the transistors.

Yeah, thats what I feared. Dang! Ok, so no playing until I get the parts and my soldering friend finds time

Upper flipper seems ok now, I checked the assembly and made a short test game. Not only did I mange to hit the shadow loop coming from the left loop for the first time, but also was able to make two consecutive hits

Dang, now I really want to play it ...

I have a question about the game rom - do I just need to exchange the game rom for an upgrade, or do I also need to exchange sound roms as well? I'ver got the L-6 rom here, currently installed is L-2.
Does anyone know the differences between the sound rom versions? Ministry of Pinball have U2,U3,U4 and U5 available, but I can't find a revision anywhere.

What is the secret behind the left ramp flasher dome - is it supposed to work at all? I just watched a couple of Shadow videos and it seems to be not working in all of them, including the PAPA tuturial and a LED promotion?! Mine was already not working when I got it and I had no time to check it yet - so what is the issue, or is there none?

#1920 8 years ago

Ok, was kinda wondering because they seem not to be working in all the videos. Currently my flasher won't activate in test menu, so I've exchanged the bulb, but it seems like a cable is loose or I need to resolder the contacs, will check it later.
