Joined the Club yesterday! Needs some TLC and 1 Ring which is missing.

The GI needs to be completely repinned and the board needs some love.

If anyone can help out with tracking down a ring to replace the one that is missing I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

I just finished a top side tear down and repair. New plastics. New lighting. New translite and speaker panel. Playfield completely cleaned waxed and polished.

The Shadow is playing and looking great now!

Here are before and after shots of it lit up.

Quoted from ZMeny:

Looks good Bos98! Did you put an LED strip on the apron?

Yep. A Comet 10 SMD frosted matrix strip

#2772 7 years ago

I just sent a photo of my LEDs on The Shadow to Art @ Comet. He said people had been asking about lighting the battlefield.

This is what I used: http://www.cometpinball.com/MATRIX-10-SMD-5050-6-3V-LIGHTED-STRIPS-p/10smd6.3vstrip.htm

I went Frosted Purple.

It looks great, lights up the plastic well and was easy to wire. I did also buy an extension wire, I think a 6"

I additionally used some Matrix strips in the back box to more properly light the Aurich Translite.

Also is someone willing to burn me the latest Rom? I am on revision 2

Quoted from indypinhead:

Wouldn't the ball hit/damage the LED strip when it goes past the kicker?

It is fairly sturdy and the top of the light strip is like a padded rubber. But honestly if it breaks there is a quick connect on it and the part is $3.95

I keep a bunch on hand in various colors. If/When it breaks it will just be replaced.

Quoted from OLDPINGUY:

Thank you for sharing this with Everyone!
We get so busy, we dont get time to let others know all the cool stuff one can do!
In addition, I imagine our new 12V could grab the flasher, and give a second color on battle hits,
on the playfield, backbox, or anywhere else!
I had been meaning to do this myself, but need help even lifting a playfield these days.
Love the look you created!
An Imagination and Matrix.....Endless Lighting Possibilities!

Hmmm a 12v strip on the flasher... interesting idea, maybe a green one when I order my bayonet bulbs.

Quoted from ZMeny:

Bos98, ever consider putting a yellow or warm white LED bulb behind the lantern on the translite? It adds a nice touch I think.

Quoted from jonesjb:

I use a slow blinking warm white from Comet Pinball. Pretty cool, looks like a flickering lamp.

Nice I will give it a try.

Anyone have a DCS sound board they are willing to sell? I am guessing someone has upgraded to a Pinsound. My board has a bad amp and the previous "repair" jobs done by others have basically left the one I have unfixable.

Trying to keep cost down, but if I have to do it I will spend the $350 for a pinsound.

#2785 7 years ago
Quoted from markmon:

Nothing is unfixable. Send the board to rob from lock when lit or Chris hibbler

I found a board for under $125 that is 100% working.

My existing board has been so hacked on it is scary. I bought caps 2x TDA2030a and sockets and op amp chips. I will give it ago and if I fix it I have a hot spare.

Marcos sells the little bulbs. The Rings however are unobtainium and I found the one I needed!

#2795 7 years ago
Quoted from ramegoom:

Actually just wondering if there is an LED replacement for the incandescent bulb. Those four are the only lamps left to LED-ize.
No one makes those rings? I replaced two over the years - should have kept the broken ones now. I could've glued them back together!

No one makes the rings! And 4 incandescent bulbs that size won't hurt anything.

Quoted from ramegoom:

About 10 years ago I purchased a gun assembly from a guy who stripped his machine for parts. Paid a fortune for it back then. I wanted a spare for my Shadow and it was pretty beat, so last year I sent it to Mike Chestnut for black chrome plating. It is a work of art, and now that Mike is gone (RIP Mike), it's in my "Shadow Box". Ha, shadow box....
Then I sent my original gun off my game to Mike and he did the same treatment. It's now on the machine, looking great. He did fantastic work.
I've been looking for another since then, but they're rare as hens teeth.

Those look amazing!

#2815 7 years ago

Another quick Comet LED mod.

I hooked a 12v 6 SMD LED pane to the Battlefied flasher.

Filming while playing = fail but you get the idea.

#2818 7 years ago
Quoted from Hazoff:

Would love to be able to add leds to the 89's and 906's with the ease of using Alligator clips, sounds good.

Next time I am down in the Gameroom I will pull the glass and take some photos of how I hooked it up to the battlefield flasher.

#2822 7 years ago
Quoted from EZG:

Yeah, mine came without the gun, so I've been trying to obtain one for years now...no dice. I've come close, but hasn't worked out. The hunt continues...

Maybe someone can 3d scan and print one for you, I know the Batman Forever guys are working on a replacement gun: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/sega-batman-forever-gun-handle-making-replacement/page/2#post-3152285

#2823 7 years ago
Quoted from Aurich:

Mike did my Shadow gun's chrome too. Can't remember if I've posted this photo in this thread or not, but I had some custom wooden grips made, and then drilled them out to embed silver dimes from 1930, the year The Shadow was first on radio.
I kinda want to stain them darker, but please with how they look and feel.

How did no one notice the cases of Girl Scout cookies back there!!!

#2825 7 years ago

Missed that! Must have been too busy playing with my Pinsound board...

#2828 7 years ago
Quoted from BowlingJim:

That gameis absolutely gorgeous. Love the lights.

Come check it out sometime, you are not more than 30 minutes away!

#2857 7 years ago
Quoted from jonesjb:

I've replaced the flashers with purple caps as many here have. I've been thinking about the original orange. I wonder if Bally used orange to add to the golden ambience of the art deco design?

Mine are still original orange and my wife hates them. In combination with the LED flashers they are absurdly bright!

#2871 7 years ago

Wires for an External Subwoofer maybe?

#2889 7 years ago

It has been fun my Shadow friends but I leave this club to venture out in to space where no one has gone before. Time to join the STTNG group.
