Hello Shadow fans.
I'm about to join the club this Friday so I need some advice.
What are the critical points of The Shadow pinball.
I know about the playfield wear above the lock magnet. I need to know what else do I have to check before buying it.
Thanks in advance.

#1640 8 years ago

Joined the club today!
I have the LX2 ROM now on it and I can see that LX6 is available as the latest.
Where can I find a changelog for every change up to LX6?

Thanks @someoneelse

Quoted from ccbiggsoo7:

Can someone that has Shadow please measure black battlefield plastic around mini playfield?

Are you talking about this?

@brandsilence could you measure The Shadow wall target for me (in mm)?
Ordered mine but can't wait. Would like to try and 3D print it with colleague's 3D printer in try it.

The other side.

I just couldn't resist painting it.

#1675 8 years ago

About 30 minutes to create a 3D model from measures in upper photo and about an hour for 3D printer to print it.
Few minutes of sanding and painting and the result is there.

#1677 8 years ago

It's too big for our 3D printer.

The Shadow ColorDMD video is here.

I'm the guy who prefers original, but I have to say it looks amazing!!

#1857 8 years ago

I can tell mine humms too.
It's a normal cause of electomagnetic resonance with some other parts nearby and actually the whole playfield too.
Maybe tightening some screws nearby the magnet may help a bit.

Quoted from Robert__:

Hello all
I got this message when I started the pin , any idea what can be wrong ?
20150822_114500.jpg
20150822_114515.jpg
And where I can find the female connector thats fits here ?
or better yet the whole battery kit with plexiglas.

Regards Robert

Check if you have corroded pins on your CPU board.
I'm guessing (by looking at your last photo and your search for an external battery holder) that you got some battery leakage.
If that's not it, reseat the ribbon cables connected to the sound board.

#1886 8 years ago

Then try to reseat all the ribbon cables connected to the sound board.
This may be caused from transportation if it was working when you bought it.

Now that I'm more into The Shadow and after I watched the movie (btw it's much better if you know the pinball before watching the movie I wish we would have a secret Pinside The Shadow Club titled: "Anyone for a Peking Duck?"

Quoted from indypinhead:

I've had The Shadow for about 4 years now.
This is the 1st time I've heard of the laugh mode.
I guess I need to read the manuals more often...LOL

It's a secret mode. It's not in the manual.

Quoted from holmstarrunner:

The PinSound board will allow you to do this at some point. I don't believe a shaker is supported yet but is expected to be added shortly in a software update. You'll be able to choose the sounds that will cause the shaker to go off and you'll be able to control the length and power I believe.

Where can I get more info about this?
I would love to have a shaker motor in my TS!
I get goose bumps if I only imagine starting Khan multiball with it !!!

Quoted from jonesjb:

Is there supposed to be a rubber sleeve on the front metal post of the population, or just the back?
image.jpeg

I have the same on mine. Just on the back, but would like to hear why is it like that.

I'm not sure if that's a TS only issue, but my bottom right flipper is not so responsive as it should be. TS has upper right flipper which is triggered after the bottom one. It's really hard to do a fliper pass with my bottom right. It's dropping few miliseconds later. Both flippers are shopped with new coils. Could it be the opto switch board?
How's your TS bottom right flipper acting?
Maybe a video would help. I'll try to record one later.

#2215 8 years ago

tachi, it all sounds like you've made a short somewhere when you were cleaning your machine.

This story may help you:
I did that once on IJ. The same as TS it has an upper left mini playfield.. the Path of Adventure. There are switches on the bottom of each hole. I accidentally shorted a diode near one of those switches and it started to act crazy. Errors and wrong behavior.
I suggest you first to check which row and column those errors came from and test every opto and switch. It is probably one row or column, so you'd need to test max 8 switches for that. Just check the TS manual for switch matrix.
I hope this will help you solving the problem.

I won't agree.

#2284 8 years ago

^ I totally agree with that.

Quoted from kermit24:

Ok here is a strange one. My volume screen is in French. Everything else on the game menus is in English. Dip switches are set to USA. It is a reimport and with a single slot coin door set for Francs. Ideas?
image.jpeg

Had the same thing, started debugging it and found out in Hex editor that the address for Volume text in this ROM is wrong.
Changed the address to the right one, recalculated the checksum, burned it to an EPROM and got a working volume text in the latest ROM.

First check the fuses. The fuses for those solenoids are in the top-middle of the power board. If one fuse is blown, the whole row of solenoids won't work. You mentioned that ball launcher is not working, this means your low powered solenoids is your focus point. The fuse should be F104 or F105 (telling that from my head).
