Quoted from Aurich:I have on on my Shadow too, but it's kinda sticky, doesn't reliably fall down to stop the balls. I should look at it more closely I guess.
Mine works great. I did have an issue with the ball bouncing off the far side of the lane back over the lane and getting stuck out of the way of the plunger so it was not launching(this is what that post with the rubber was preventing).. little piece of foam tape on the swinging piece of metal and it works great.
Quoted from Aurich:Gee, you will you ever get by?
hah, yes. but that thing need some serious tweaking.
hah, I never had seen that. seems unlikely that that is a play counter. maybe a coin or $ counter, but even still that seems like a ridiculous number.. at 50c a play your looking at 100k plays.. seriously doubt it. nobody would sell a machine bringing in 100k err 50k still
Quoted from Brad76:Two battlefield questions
1. Once every few games, the back wall targets will drop when hit and do not reset quick enough before the shot is kicked back up (forward) and it goes out the back of the battlefield before it gets to the magic number, say 30.
Should these back wall targets be dropping at all before it gets to 30 or is this just a glitch of The Shadow in general?
2. Occasionally when a ball is going to the right on the upper playfield, if I am bit late in moving the kicker to the right, it will get stuck as it drops down and gets wedged in the divertor and something below. After about 2 seconds the kicker moves itself back to the middle postion and the ball falls normally. Is this another common issue? Can it be fixed or again is this just a symptom to seal with on TS? Thanks
normal
Quoted from gweempose:Pull out the batteries while the game is turned off.
then you will erase my GC score
Quoted from o-din:I'd like to see someone try to crack 2 billion on mine.
Ill take take the pepsi challenge I put 3 billion on my new one and it is really brutal.. outlanes all the way open and clear coated. My average is below 1 billion for sure on the new one.
Quoted from o-din:Steep! I don't have a meter. It also doesn't help that one of the guys before me installed white rubbers. The ball takes mean bounces to the outlanes. If you decide to steepen it up, you may want to close the outlanes a bit to make it even playable. But I like it fast! And fast it is.
I have white rubber as well.. shit is super fast.
Quoted from o-din:Crank them back legs all the way up!
Alright, So i just substantially increased my playfield angle and I am going to have to say that I think the game is not as hard as it was.. the overall ball speed is much much slower from the steeper angle. At the normal angle the ball was moving super fast and bouncing back just as fast. Now it feels like the ball is in slow motion.. I think I like it steep but it is a much slower paced game now.
Quoted from RonB:Pretty good idea with the shrink wrap on those led's, I have the same ones but didn't like how I could see them from behind.
Nice machine, btw.
Thanks. Yeah they looked terrible without the shrink wrap.
Quoted from o-din:You would think side to side might go away, but on this machine balls rolling down from the top at a fast rate of speed can hit a rubber and send them flying from side to side. That is the balls that don't gravitate SDTM.
I think steepness adds a different type of difficulty to the game, but its not speed. I played a bunch more yesterday, and it feels like half speed from where it was. I am going to try and find a good spot right in the middle.
the key to high scoring is mastering the ramp shots.. you can rack up serious points on a few long vengeance runs, add a final battle and you right up there. On my old shadow I would sometimes get in the zone an get 4 or 5 super vengeance back to back.
Quoted from KevInBuffalo:Where are you guys tying into for spotlights/lights on the Battlefield? I'm thinking about adding one of Comet pinball's LED strips to the metal flap on the back of it, just wondering where the best place is to solder it in.
I added a strip on the knurled screw that the rubber goes around. Not the most elegant spot but it does not look bad and you get no reflection of lights in your eyes. I like it a lot.
Quoted from o-din:Makes me feel a little better about my efforts. My top score is near 1.5 and I have it set up very steep. GC score is close to 1.7 on my machine. From what I have seen there are not a whole lot of points to be gained during the Final Battle at 10 million a shot unless maybe you finish it, but I haven't seen that done yet. So it is probably better to get as much as you can before you get there because it seems to be a very taxing mode.
I like to clear the battlefield as many times as I can in a game and collect the extra balls when available. Having more balls to play is the best way to a high score on this one it seems. Also Khan multiball is easy to light so I am trying to take advantage of that too. As was stated before, getting those ramp shots in a rhythm can also pay big dividends. Getting as many point as you can out of each mode also seems like a good strategy.
Super Vengeance FTW. Definitely the sleeper for points.
you need to complete it with a combo and you get 100mil, and if you string them together the shot values continue to climb. Also even in normal vengeance if you finish with a combo you will get 100mil. I have had ball ones where I just start vengeance and keep hitting shots to end up with around 1b after ball 1. Just practice nailing those ramp shots consistently and your scores will increase. Then you will have a solid base to skyrocket your score with a Final Battle completion.
I make sure to hit the shadow loop first. I can usually get it right out of the first kick out. Then I shoot for ramps, then loops. While in ramp and loop mode I usually just get balls up in the battlefield and I don't pay any attention to them up there, I almost always clean the battlefield with no extra effort. Once ramps and loops are done I clean up whatever is left. That is the way I go into it. I have beat it 6 or 8 times. Such a good wizard mode. And when you beat it you get to try again with no ball saver.
I have since got a nicer shadow that is super steep and cleared.. I have 3b GC on that one. Not sure the exact pitch, but it's pretty much maxed out with outlanes all the way open. I like my machines brutal.
Quoted from Ika:3) I would like to LED GI to reduce strain on GI circuit, but, alas, pinballcenter doesn't have enough warm white noflix GI leds in stock! How many of you use cool white frosted for GI and could you post a pic or point to one (I see lots of pics in this thread that I assume are cool leds but there is no description)? how many GI lighbulbs on playfield are there, manual doesn't list GI, only other lamps?
I have cool in my GI, I think it looks good.

the gem can be 3d printed with transparent red resin. I was thinking about taking on this project. I still may.
Quoted from Syco54645:Would it turn out well enough? I was thinking it would need to be molded in clear resin with red tint. Even then would need a vacuum chamber to get the bubbles out.
The print would probably be ok.. I have the ability to mold them too.. but that is a pain
I need to get my hands on a sacrificial ring that I can spray grey so I can get a good 3d scan. If someone wants to donate one that would probably give me some motivation to start messing around with making some rings.
part of the problem is that there is not really room for any sort of traditional socketed led under the ring. but I bet you can modify something like one of these to fit, putting the guts of the socket somewhere behind the ring.
http://www.cometpinball.com/product-p/1-flux-wired.htm
I think I may have just figured out an awesome led solution for the rings. I need to do a little research to make sure it will work.
anyone know what the voltage going to the ring lights is before the resistor?
Quoted from Netsepp:what about the rings ? anyone can reproduce the rings ?
they can. And the easiest way is to 3d print them. I dont want to take my rings off and paint them grey. but if someone wants to donate a ring to me for the cause I will 3d scan it, clean it up and print a prototype and I can see about making a bunch of them.
I have an idea to print the whole ring in transparent material.. And using transparent red paint to color the stone. And paint the ring with metalic paint. I think it could work well.
I will try to get my hands on a ring. step one is going to be getting the ring scanned and seeing how far I can take a 3d print. The ring can be printed in metal too.. which might look awesome.
the ring does not have to be destoryed. but because it is very reflective it makes scanning it a pain. The scanner uses a laser to scan and lasers do not like reflective surfaces, so generally it makes for a much better scan to spray the object with something matte that wont reflect the laser. There are some materials that you can spray then clean off, but using good ole primer works the best. That is why a sacrificial ring would be ideal.. I will try to track one down.
the only problem with printing metal is that it would be expensive..
I honestly dont even look at the translite when I am playing.. The COLORDMD green matches nothing on the Playfield, which is where my eyes are locked except to look up at that score..
Quoted from Dmod:Have not connected with Dave or Aurich on this yet, but the green in the display should be a good match to the green on the playfield. Are you saying it's not, or just isn't matching the green in the backlit translite?
I think its just that all the green in my game is much more saturated. Matching the paint I think is less important than an illuminated machine. I would love to see something that closer matches Lock inserts, KHAN inserts as well as Aurich's artwork, which I know is not standard, but I am pretty confident that most people willing to put a color DMD in their shadow have replaced that translite with his.
This is all just my opinion and I am happy to finally get color for the Shadow. My only thought is this.. it stands out to me as too light of a green.
Quoted from RTS:Would it be possible to have this battlefield LED strip only be lit when there is a ball on the upper playfield, ie, just when the paddle is active?
I have a strip in that spot that is tied to the center insert in the battlefield.. Every time the ball crosses the opto up there it flashes. It's a cool effect.
