I dropped the color DMD in mine today and it looks awesome. I'm having three issues though.

1) The Sanctum Wall wont always lock in the 'up' position. Sometimes it fires and tries a few times, never makes it. Sometimes it locks up briefly to fall back down. Sometimes it works. It appears to be able to raise all the way up, but not 'stay' up.

2.) The back row of my battlefield doesnt pop back up after they're knocked down. They stay down. Is this a switch I need to adjust? I think it is but I'm unsure how.

3.) My ball gets stuck on the left ramp too often. It 'dies' on the wire headed to the right side of the machine, where the little switch the ball rolls over is present. Is this common?

#2322 8 years ago
Quoted from woody76:

Did all this happen after installing colordmd? Or just some lingering issues?

lingering.

Nothing changed after the color DMD.

I believe it's all related to switches so more or less mechanical problems vs electical

Quoted from jonesjb:

Do they go down smoothly? I've seen this before where they stick during gameplay so the switch doesn't get activated.

I'm having this issue, but getting a different switch error #

Do these need to be taken apart and cleaned?

#2586 8 years ago
Quoted from jonesjb:

Yes, this is the solution. I had this problem with another switch (86 I think) ended up taking the drop target assembly out, cleaning, it, waxing the plastic and it fixed the problem. Generally if they stick, you'll get the error Slingshot is having every 30 games or so. When this happens, the targets won't reset within game, and you have to do the manual switch edges test to remove the error every 30 games.

I get this error every game. They don't reset for me even once.
Is this area easily deconstructed?

#2588 8 years ago
Quoted from jonesjb:

Have you gone into the switch edges and pressed the switch manually?

I took it apart, cleaned it up and now it's working as it should. Pretty exciting.
It was awfully dirty.

Now I guess I just wait for the sanctum door to come, replace that and go from there on my sanctum wall errors.

One thing I am noticing is the little plastic chute that is behind the battlefield, when "escaping" the battle with Khan, my ball gets hung up on it too regularly. Is this typical? I think I need to adjust the pitch of it.

Looking pretty sharp. Big thanks to Aurich!

Tempted to get the Britemod for the speakers. Anyone else done it?

Quoted from RTS:

I got the target for my game, and it's a much stronger plastic. Even without the lighting effects, it's a better target overall.
The original target is flimsy and very crappy in comparison. This target is a vast improvement. And visually, it looks way better. It illuminates the area nicely. The kit comes with a white bulb, but was easy to change to red which works well with the brick pattern.

I like that. Where can I get it?

Swapped in purple flipper rubber last night.

They match the playfield much better and look awesome. They're from pinball life.

Quoted from Luppin:

any suggestion?

Only when the ball hits them really hard?

If you have not done it yet you should take that bank of 4 targets out and dismantle the assembly and clean it up with Novus 2. Mine were filthy, as are most. They play much cleaner now. Mine weren't coming back up.

So I surfed through ~ 25 pages of this thread and can't find the answer I'm looking for...

I want to illuminate my Battelfield with a LED strip or something. Looking for a what, where and how in that regard.

I swear I saw a post on it once before but I can't seem to find it, now that I have resolved all my bigger issues on this machine.

OOPS, sorry, wrong thread. Belongs on ToM. Slip of the mouse!

I lol'd

Quoted from mjthompson:

I'm going to shop a Shadow soon. At this point I'm thinking I'll use purple Titan rubber (flippers & rings) but I'd like thoughts on other colors that might work well with the game.

Purple is the way to go for me.

I like the purple rubbers and green LEDs in the mode inserts.

Help me light up my Battlefield!

I'ts too dark to play in a dark room.

I bought some LED strips from comet, but the wire they come with is super short. It's definitely intended for use on top of the playfield, and cant reach up above the battlefield upper PF.

Initially I cut off their connectors and soldered longer wire, planning to run wire underneath and up through the back from one of the (4) GI lights that is along the loop, under the BF playfield. When I plugged this in it caused flicker and 'put out' the the rest of the GI around it. So, that will not work.

I really want to get this done and button up this game. Thanks in advance.

I'll be a new member starting tomorrow!!! I never played this game but bought it cuz I love Brian Eddy games. Hopefully it won't disappoint and become a keeper. Anyone have a spare Aurich set willing to part with?

There is one on ebay right now

#2722 7 years ago
Quoted from i_b_flippin:

can you send me the link? Can find it on ebay. thanks.
Any other parts for the machine I should buy for that just in case incident?

you're right, I don't see it either. Maybe it was me searching for sold parts? IDK. Try PMing him, see if he has 1 left?

as for what you need:

-Sanctum wall ($20 on Marco)
-Mylar patches for the wireform drops into the two in-lanes, and sanctum magnet spot
-be prepared to clean the back 4 targets of the Battlefield PF
-I would STRONGLY consider the color DMD, especially if you get the Aurich kit
-long microswitch for the left (lower) wireform that crosses the playfield
-LEDs

Quoted from ZMeny:

Joining the club. Picked up this beauty about a week or so ago. Shopped it, added full Comit LEDs, added lighted purple star posts, translucent rubbers, added purple flashers and domes, added light strips under battlefield and in front of battlefield (to light the bat). Came with new legs, Aurich package, back city scene plastic, flipper mod, Shadow car topper, and Shadow figurines. Hoping to add color DMD and mirror sides at some point. So much purple and blue, pictures do it no justice.

Care to share your lighting the battlfield? I'd like to do the same and would love to see/know how you accomplished it.

Quoted from Luppin:

question for the Shadow owners with full led setup: how is it when you play it? is it disturbing for the eyes?
I have several pinball machines, but none ledded. On my Shadow I only put led on the 6 six scenes inserts, and its fine. looking at the pictures here, I have to say that fully ledded machines look great. But I am a player, more than a collector, so I wonder how it is to play machines with so many leds in your face...

I color matched on the inserts with a few exceptions. I put purple in the arrow that points to the Khan saucer.
I used green in the modes instead of Purple. I though it popped more and with purple flashers, there's tons of purple going on. I put every color of bulb in there for a while, and green was what I liked best.

Don't put cool whites in the flashers under the caps or it'll be too bright.

LEDs are really easy and not very expensive unless you get lazy and buy a kit.

The COLOR DMD is basically a must for this thing, especially if you spent the $ for the Aurich and LEDs. After you sell the old DMD it only cost you ~ $200.

#2740 7 years ago
Quoted from jonesjb:

Do you have a photo of the inserts with the green leds? I'd be curious to see what it looks like.

You know, I don't but I will take one later tonight (or tomorrow) and throw it up here.

Camera phone with minimal effort so not the best but there's an idea

Damnit. New issue today. The paddle up on the battlfield is giving me 1 or 2 hits on the ball then the ball is just sitting on it, and it returns to the middle and the ball falls out.

My test mode isn't giving me any errors. Should it be? Is this an opto?

#2765 7 years ago
Quoted from JosiahCox:

Finally joined the club!!!
Got some stuff to fix: flipper rebuilds, upper right GI totally out (not a fuse), sticky drops on the battle field, a few flashers out...
But all in all its in decent shape and we are thrilled to have it in the lineup.
I am in need of an original translite and speaker panel. My wife likes them more than any of the alternates and strangely our came with a beat up translite and a Aurich speaker panel. If anyone has a set they can part with you would make her day!
Cheers!

I have a set for sale in the marketplace.

PM me if interested.

As an owner of this game I highly, highly, highly recommend the colorDMD.

It looks too awesome to not have in there.
