Thought I'd post this issue here with the fix if somebody in the future has the same problem.
A couple months ago the problem started with the battlefield mini kicker firing a couple times when the optos detected the ball. The issue got worse, and the paddle would constantly fire once the battlefield was activated.
After checking the optos and spending some time going over all the components on the battlefield I narrowed it down to the Opto SW-24 PCB Assembly (A-15646-2). Specifically, the L1 Inductor 10mH (5551-10890-00). That Inductor/Choke had gone bad and once replaced has been working fine since.
Those inductor/chokes aren't stocked by many suppliers here in Australia so if anybody has the same issue shoot me a PM and I'll send you one as I had to order a pack of 10.
