Found a Shadow! Going to have it shipped but it will be worth it. Just considering getting Aurich's alternate translite kit and a ColorDMD at the moment. I'm sure if I ask if either are worth the cost the answer will be "YES!", lol.

Does anyone have any of the circular sanctum covers available?

They look like the ones in the thread below.

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/free-shadow-sanctum-decal

Thanks!

Both are awesome upgrades.

Both are very cool but if it had to be one or the other then the translite for sure.

Also, I think Aurich is sitting on the last few he'll ever run. If you're serious about getting his translite and speaker panel, I suggest you move quickly.

My friend picked up a Shadow recently, complete with ColorDMD and Aurich translite.

He's having an issue, an issue that the previous owner I am sure decided not to mention when listing for sale here on Pinside. With that said, does anyone know what could be causing the game to randomly reboot during a game? There seems to be no rhyme or reason of when it reboots, the lights go out and the game resets.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

That's a real common issue with WPC games. Just search the forums for "WPC reset" or something similar and you'll drum up a ton of stuff. It's been discussed hundreds of times and it could be a multitude of issues.

I will say this, though. Before blaming the seller for lack of disclosure, check all the connectors in the backbox. Reseat all the power connections into the boards as well as the ribbon cables. Push in on any socketed ICs to make sure they're seated fully. Especially the ASIC chip in the MPU. And be sure to put a volt meter on the outlet and make sure the power conimg from there is good, because if it's low your game is doomed to reset until that's corrected.

Ok thanks - i'll do as you suggested next time I am over at his house.

Ask him if the reboot only occurs when he presses both flippers. That was occurring on my TZ and the fix in the link below corrected it. Fixes other WPC era reboot issues as well.

For those who have bought the colordmd how do you like it on ts? Worth it?

#2510 8 years ago

Has anyone put gold mirror blades on their Shadow? I know there was the recent sale during Black Friday. If so, please share some photos!

I think it's one of the best ones. The dots on this game are great. I will say that it's a better investment if you play a lot of multiplayer games. If you just play at home by yourself, you're going to miss a lot of the animations.

I bought a pair during the sale but haven't unpacked them yet. Waiting until I do the full tear down shop job and also send the wire forms out to get brass plated.

Yea I will second this opinion, the color DMD is an amazing addition to most games. But as someone who plays mostly on my own, I don't get a chance to see it a lot, and its not cheap

#2514 8 years ago

If you have the cash I don't consider the ColorDMD optional personally.

#2515 8 years ago

Just picked up a shadow on Thursday and I've got it completely shopped out working 100% except for the common issue of the ball flying out of the wire form when you take the left ramp right exit, it hits the switch every time so I don't need the switch extender, and the wireform is adjusted all the way to the right. Id say the ratio is about 25% flying out. Has anybody done a decent Jerry rig to keep the ball in the wireform? My pitch is correct.

How is your flipper power? Mine makes it around 98% of the time, but I have had a rare weak shot that didn't.

Agreed!

Also wanted to say that I replaced my first burnt connector ever last night with great success. Pretty much the first time I've ever soldered anything, so that's a statement to the great resources this site and community provides! Now I can finally start enjoying Aurich's translight in all it's lit up glory once again (fresh new cool white leds installed to boot). The translight really goes well with the ColorDMD. Just make sure you have the latest rom installed.

I don't have an issue with balls flying out of the wireform. I will say that maybe 15% of the time or so the switch will not register. Usually when it's the last shot needed to complete Vengeance! If I bend the switch out too much though the ball has a tendency to get stuck on weaker / not as clean ramp shots. I've also noticed about half way through the horizontal portion of that wireform the ball sort of slows down a bit. I've tried to bend it out a bit in that area but haven't had any luck getting it to roll smoother.

The left exit of that ramp sometimes gets caught up as well. The phurba diverter being activated always frees it up. There's no way of adjusting it from what I've seen besides moving the left wireform to the left a bit. If I do that though then the drop to the inlane doesn't match up correctly.

I was a beta tester for the ColorDMD and was able to make some palette suggestions.

Same here; it's a trade-off. I think the only "final" solution is to mount the switch at the end of the wireform, just ahead of the junction with the right inlane wireform.

Quoted from Pinbally_1968:

However...
It has a severe problem regarding the miniplayfield which I suspect will be timeconsuming to fix, so maybe one of you know what it can be, i will try to describe:
-First of all what i noticed is that the minikickers' ''rest'' position is to much down to the left. This can not be the correct position as the kicker can not kick when it is too far to the left.
-The kicker seems to try to kick, at random, it pulses but due to the fact it is so far to the left it cannot kick. (I believe it does this also when no game is on)
-The test program says that all is fine.
-I manually moved the kicker from left to right ( in switch test mode) and the optos detect its position as it should.
-When i manually put the kicker in the middle, then run the kicker test, it works fine.
-Related to this? The battlefield droptarget goes down when hit, battlefield ready shows in display, but the droptarget comes up right after. Hitting it again gives points, target drops and comes up again so there is no way to enter the miniplayfield. Occasionally the droptarget works as expected though.
-When occasionally it lets me enter the miniplayfield, the kicker does not work properly, most likely due to the issue I mentioned first..
any suggestions are more then welcome!

First time ever I quote myself...

And edit: It is not the kicker that tries to kick, but the motor that tries to go more to the left where it is already at its maximum left position.

Help!

Got an email that color dmd's are back in stock, so ordered one for TS (along with one of Aurich's translights). Just a heads up for anyone that was waiting for one.

Try replacing with this switch, it should prevent the ball from getting stuck and should register the switches better: http://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/5647-12693-08

Anyone know where to get a replacment left ramp? Marco is out and said they dont know when they'll have them again if ever. I had to weld mine up because it was broken just about everywhere because the diverters were slamming into the ramp. Looks ok but my left exit area is broke at the 90 degree bend- put a good tack weld on it and broke again after a few shots, metal is just too thin there imo.

Yes, you're in luck. Check out Mantis. Much better quality than the originals. http://www.mantisamusements.com/shadow.htm

Is there a reason why about 1/3rd of the solenoids on my table wouldn't be firing? I'll go detail each one but I had someone stop buy to help with my table as I thought I was close to finished with my refresh and he was explaining and was showing me to my horror a lot of issues. The upper flipper, the ball launcher mechanism, and another 7-8 different solenoids didn't fire. Could they all be related like some kind of short?

I know when I had a switch solder issue it caused half my switches not to work in test mode fixing the 1 issue fixed almost every switch.

#2537 8 years ago

just to be clear i have posted in this thread before, I took apart most of the table so i could clean it and redo the flippers, adjust and clean the switches etc. When i took it apart the table was 100% functioning (just not very pretty or clean, ball bouncing around) divot in sanctum etc.

#2538 8 years ago

Tachi, I would suggest you post this to the main forum under Tech Help...sounds like either you have a bad fuse or one of your connectors for that group of solenoids is toast. I am assuming the solenoids are on more than one circuit.

#2539 8 years ago

First check the fuses. The fuses for those solenoids are in the top-middle of the power board. If one fuse is blown, the whole row of solenoids won't work. You mentioned that ball launcher is not working, this means your low powered solenoids is your focus point. The fuse should be F104 or F105 (telling that from my head).

#2540 8 years ago

Any idea which fuse I should check?

Guys I am ashamed to admit it, but I left the club :'( grabbed me an Iron Man and have a space issue

#2544 8 years ago

Im gonna leave this club as well, while im not selling my Shadow though. There is just no interest in peoples's Shadows and their questions. Its just about showing off translites and other bling bling, no real content. A waste of time to check this thread.

#2545 8 years ago

Pinballly, like I said before I suggest you post in the main tech help forum. There are some really good tech who check that forum topic that wouldn't look at the Shadow club posts.

I've noticed the kicker on the battlefield has started to act up just a bit. The issue has to be related to the optos not sensing the ball consistently. It seems to happen more when the ball is on the right side very close to the opto transmitter itself.

In the switch test I cannot get any inconsistent behavior however. It picks up on the ball everytime it should. Seems straight forward enough that the beam isn't being broken by the ball consistently so I'll continue to try to tweak it, but just curious if others have gone through the same.

did you just install LEDs? Mine did this after I upgraded to LEDs and I could not figure it out. Installed new optos and everything. Come to find out it was light reflection messing with the optos. Installed this opto extender thing I found on Bay Area and it completely fixed the problem.

Playfield GI is still incandescents. I did however just fix a burnt connector that had taken out my backbox lighting. I replaced all lights in the backbox with leds. All inserts are led and have been since I've had it. You have me thinking about the backbox lighting now....It had been out for a bit of time and I never noticed any problems. Maybe I'll unplug it and play a few games to compare with it off.

I'll take a look at the extender you mentioned. Thank you.
