I am glad the translite issue was resolved. I have met Aurich a couple times when picking up product. He is a good guy that does great work. I hate to see the fakes out in the world. That really rubs me the wrong way. Don't hesitate to pull the trigger on the real Arurich Shadow translite. It is an excellent product.

Quoted from TheBananaPeel69:

Has anyone done any optimizations to make this game play a little smoother?
I’ve watched gameplay videos, played it on location, and now have it in my house and all games have a certain degree of rattle.
-wireform to inlanes, both sides
-left orbit shot
-left ramp left exit (often either slams against the side or stops on the wireform rolls backward and slows down)
-and when waxed, the ball will often reject out of scoops as it’s moving too fast. battlefield, kahn, and scene start
on the left ramp left exit i added a mini spacer to lift the ramp slightly behind the diverter, and it seems to reduce the roll back but the fresh wax/speed is an issue on that exit killing the momentum.
any tweaks let me know!

Try using regular rubber everywhere. Superbands, Titans and all these other silicone fire the ball too hard.

Hey Shadow owners. A while ago we made this radio mod. It's made of brown 3D filament and painted to look somewhat like wood. Recently, I made a few out of a wood composite filament which I think look a ton better. They take a bit more time to sand and clear coat so I wanted to see if there was any interest. Picture of the wood one attached. Hard to tell due to the lighting and my phone but it has darker edges where the wood has been burnished and some grain type texture.

Where is it supposed to mount?

It's the lane next to the right ramp. I own one, they look really cool.

I’ve been wanting to add one, so I’m definitely interested in an updated version.

#10609 75 days ago

OK! I think I’ve had enough lol.

I got this for a steal. We upgraded everything.

There was no wear—just a slight discoloration—at the sanctum, but both the drop targets etc werent working. Ramps were broken at the welds. Diverters were shaking and weak. Crap rubbers, not really maintained.

Fully shopped it, rebuilt flippers, added LEDS all over and replaced nearly all of the plastics and added plastic protectors at some spots.

Did Mantis ramps, radio mod, background sticker and side blades. Purple posts and blue LED lights. LCD ColorDMD in TileXL. Powdercoat matte black armor. Aurich translite set. Pinsound upgrade sound card and speakers (from another project machine, otherwise it would have been Pinwoofer all the way).

Was thinking spotlights but later. I’m over it now. lol.

Waxed it using far too much lol and will just let this ride. It’s punishingly fast right now.

This game is great, but it blows to work on. It’s like a rat’s nest to get to some parts. Pull diverters, undo all ramps and kinda hope it all goes back just to get to the left right or back GI. Nothing is quick. And if you have a ramp off by a mm or two, it gets rattly and weird.

I get the deadened momentum on the left ramp and it even started doing it on the right. it’s totally playable so im just going to say ‘That’s The Shadow for ya!’

Thanks to Luke_Nukem for answering every question I had. His Pinsound mix is awesome.

That matte black powder coat is sweet! Great work.

it makes it look modern.

i have about 2k in mods that are 100% portable. so i could sell a VERY nice and clean shadow at the top of the range, then use these mods (armor, pinsound, dmd) in/on another machine of the era.

3D printed ring would look terrible. Not a fan of 3D printed Mods, IMO. Spend the extra for the real thing.

#10620 68 days ago

I’m getting a hit against the glass when ball launches to the battlefield.

it doesnt seem like the wire form can bend forward. I supposed i could use a washer on the back screw.

i also guess that the main targets it hits out of the wireform could be bent more forward.

any other adjustments that could be made?

anybody know what size pinion gear is used for upper playfield? And where to get a plastic one. Marco has rack and pinion for $108 or you can buy just the rack for 20.00 so they are basically charging almost 90 dollars for the pinion gear itself, which is just insane.

again, im looking for the plastic one. i have read the brass one chews up the plastic teeth on the rack.

I see what you are saying. I just went through mine and they were fine after being rode hard. Cleaned them and greased them. The gear is held on by a tiny roll pin and no set screw on mine although there is a spot for it. If you over tighten the plastic rack screws they will strip.

More likely you are to break the metal bracket which I had mine welded but Mantis makes a nice affordable replacement. Also the rubber insulators can break but those are available too.

do you have the brass pinion gear on yours, or has anybody else on here had any luck with the brass on plastic?

#10626 64 days ago
Quoted from ccbiggsoo7:

Mine is brass and no problem. The problem would be I don't have a punch small enough to remove the tiny pin and not sure how well that would work on a plastic pinion. My bracket was broken at the weak spot in the corner and the whole thing was flopping around but with no damage to the rack or the gear. Now it works tits.

The pin on the gear might have been extruding a bit but I used a punch to knock it back flush.

I've had three Shadows with the brass gear and this is the first one I even had to take apart.

#10627 64 days ago

i think there’s the one with brass inside plastic outside, no?

#10628 64 days ago

I guess if you need a replacement rack and it is not exactly like the original or the brass gear is damaged, that could be a problem.

Also the bracket it runs through needs to be straight. That is the part I had repaired.

#10629 64 days ago
Quoted from TheBananaPeel69:

yeah that is the new kit they offer. gives the pinion gear strength without chewing up the rack. But just trying to get outta paying 110 dollars when i just need a 3 dollar pinion gear. they don't sell just the pinion gear in plastic by itself.

#10630 64 days ago

I hadn't really looked at that kit but now I see where you are coming from.

#10631 64 days ago

I'm starting to think that perhaps when they reproduced the racks, they weren't exactly the same and the original brass gear started chewing them up. Or not. Anything is possible.

Just the bulbs? If you need any more than that, I'll let someone with real knowledge take it from here.

I sold my HUO one to kwikimart almost 10 years ago.

But I am still kicking myself in the head that I didn't buy that one the guy got from that old man who bought it new mentioned somewhere in this thread for $4k just a few years ago.

Yea… it’s changed hands a few times… a buddy of mine bought it at around $12.5k or something

I was at work sitting in front of the computer when the first guy announced he had just picked it up from that old man and was willing to sell it. My hands locked up as I reached over to send PM. Or my brain did.

Hi Guys,

The mini kicker on the battlefield keeps on being pulled. There's nothing wrong with the optoswitch. So i'm quessing the transistor on the board is fried. How can i find in the manual which transistor belongs to the mini kicker coil ?

In the manual the mini kicker is J107-3 (Q46) J127-8. How do i know which transistor is used for the coil ?
Is it just that Q46 or do i need to change more ?

Thanks!
