    Quoted from RatShack:

Please level Ferris Bueller. It was leaning hard left last night, and that's a shame for a game which obviously has a lot of time and $$$ into. The game has it's own backdrop for Pete's sake.

Use the QR code on the game's info sheet to report issues with games. That's the fastest way to get a tech's or the owner's attention.

They are unlikely to check the event thread here very often during the course of the event.

    Quoted from gdonovan:

Either Mandolorin is too easy out of the box or the owner had it setup too easy for show environment, both times. I'm thinking the game is geared towards the casual pin buyer and not inclined to buy one.

I've played mando a few times before this show, and yes, ball times can be quite long on it if you're a half way decent player. I still liked it for the most part, though.

    Quoted from CFoote:

I believe there was a "real" CV in the VIP room.

Yep, there was one in the extra ball lounge.

    Quoted from dmarston:

The vast parking lot is also an important consideration, and you may well see why this year.

I knew it--the bouncy castles are on!

    Quoted from drsfmd:

I was lucky, and managed to get a room for Friday and Saturday night.

Thanks for the reminder--I managed to grab one too. Unfortunately, it sounds like the hotel is now sold out for the weekend, according to the person I spoke with on the phone. I'm not sure if that was just the pintastic block, and/or if there are still rooms available on individual days or not.

Looking forward to seeing ya'll there

Heads up...traffic on i90 south is stopped 60 miles before exit 78 at mile marker 17. A big truck is engulfed in flames.

    #778 1 year ago

A fire truck and ambulance just arrived on-scene.

If you can avoid this section of i90, I would highly recommend bypassing it. I'm guessing traffic may be stopped for a good while while the fire truck works on putting out the huge fire.

It looks like if you get off i90 before Lee, you can bypass the accident.

    #779 1 year ago

Looks like the fire trucks have the fire pretty much under control now. The 25ft flames are gone and the billowing black smoke cloud has petered out to small wisps of campfire smoke.

    Quoted from 1974DeltaQueen:

I-90 runs east and west. Odd number interstates run North & South

    Southeast then

    Thursday night Freeplay!

I really enjoyed the bally cross country...I've never seen that one before. Really interesting concept.

Thanks to everyone who brought games!

    Quoted from arcyallen:

I just got out of the shower. In true Host Hotel fashion, the water was lukewarm at best. Just. Warm. Enough. We've killed about ten mosquitoes and an earwig. You must have the penthouse suite that includes in-room bug zapper!

I caught a large spider in my room. If you want, I could bring it over to take care of your bug problem

    Quoted from VALIS666:

Also I thought I saw every pin but there has to be a dozen in ForceFlow's photos I never saw like Multimorphic, Elvis, Coney Island, SharpShooter II, Pool Sharks -- that whole row I seemed to miss.

There's a club room across from the seminar room.

There's also the extra ball room at the back of the hotel lobby.

Does anyone know what time the freeplay drawing is on Sunday? I didn't see it listed on the website.

    #850 1 year ago
    Quoted from drsfmd:

    1) The game I brought was badly damaged sometime between 1am Friday and 10:30am Friday.

Sorry to hear that. As a possible suggestion for fragile games, maybe drape them in cloth after a certain time, so the late night crowd doesn't mess with them?

    Quoted from CrazyLevi:

    Probably a good idea to explore other options at this point;

    Quoted from CrazyLevi:

    Personally I don’t think the Host hotel is long for this world. Probably a good idea to explore other options at this point;

I'm not sure if you recall the advertising materials that were released pre-covid, but another hotel was explored in Boxboro MA for what would've been the 2020 show. It was a larger venue, but somewhat geographically isolated.

    Quoted from jp1985:

The lack of food in the hotel was odd but then again would you want to eat anything from that hotel?

After limited options in past years, I brought most of my own snacks and food, and supplimented with (ugh) burger king, since it was within walking distance. The food there tastes like a salt lick block on a bun, though.

Once I park when towing a trailer, I don't usually like to move it if I don't have to. Plus it's harder to find a decent parking spot once the doors for the show open.

    Quoted from drsfmd:

Our room was... less than sparking clean. We were all the way in the back, in the room next to ForceFlow. Everything smelled a little musty, and the hallways in between the buildings smelled like someone had taken a dump in them (literally-- it was wretch inducing).

Yeah, I was expecting freshly renovated rooms...not the same old musty room from years past. That was a let down. At least the ancient AC unit in the room worked, so keeping that running 24/7 seemed to combat the smells.

While I really like the convenience of staying on-site, the condition of the room was certainly a sore spot in the overall show experience.

As for the show itself, I liked having a chance to play some of the newer titles. There were plenty of copies of rush and Godzilla. I don't like waiting on lines for games (standing still for too long after being on my feet all weekend tends to hurt a bit), so I didn't get a chance to play toy story. Maybe I'll get a chance at the next show.

Thanks to everyone who brought games to the show. I had a chance to enjoy playing many of them.

    Quoted from CrazyLevi:

The hotel was “sold out” but I suspect half the rooms were empty.
It’s a skeleton crew running the place now, and my guess is they are not operating at anything near full capacity.

Housekeeping staff didn't visit my room once during the entire stay. I had to call the front desk for toilet paper.

    Quoted from Irishbastard:

Took a walk over to the help desk area (whatever you call it),

The registration desk outside the freeplay room entrance, or the repair area in the back corner?

The best way to report malfunctioning games was to scan the QR code and select the appropriate option.

However, I did notice that when someone reported my game as malfunctioning, I didn't get any notifications about it. I just happened to walk by and see that someone had turned it off, then I signed in to the website and saw the trouble report.

    Quoted from Irishbastard:

unfortunately most that were "FOR SALE" didn't have a price?

All the for sale signs I saw had prices. They were just in smaller print than the "for sale" text.

    Quoted from Irishbastard:

I was surprised to see many missing, and don't understand the quantity of vendors who sell crap completely unrelated to the hobby

Sometimes there are overlapping interests with collectibles and whatnot. And the general public may be interested in those things too. Personally, I don't mind seeing a few of those booths, as long as it doesn't turn into the main focus. But most of the time, if a vendor does well, they return for another year, but if not, they usually don't.

    Quoted from Irishbastard:

I don't care about a special lanyard, or a room of pins hidden behind a pay wall (especially when you have rows of pins missing from the freeplay area, thats just stupid)

On one hand, I can agree with that sentiment. On the other, it's nice to have a separate space that isn't completely mobbed, and where you actually have a small chance at hearing the audio on the game that you're playing. It's impossible to hear anything on the freeplay floor. Well, aside from the screaming crypt keeper. You could hear that from clear across the room.

    Quoted from Irishbastard:

    No beer this year?? (Odd)

I saw plenty of people walking around with beer cups. I saw one of the workers in the concession stand pouring a bottled beer into a cup at one point.

    Quoted from Irishbastard:

but not the open sewage smell of Allentown

Apparently, it was some prankster messing around with fart sprays.

    #864 1 year ago
    Quoted from Capinball:

Is this confirmed or your guess because the truth is that same smell was outside in between the vendor hall and the block of rooms where they were digging up the courtyard. I dont think someone would be spraying it outside and inside. I've smelled liquid ass that someone sprayed at the Ramada at Allentown a few years ago to try to tone down the actual grossness of the Ramada and this was not the same.

Someone said they found empty spray bottles.

    Quoted from dmarston:

Our process for trouble reports is to have the Tech Team look into it first, and involve the game-bringer only if necessary. We have some ideas for MyFlipR that would make it simpler for the owner to get a quick view of the status of all the games they brought. As with almost any software package, that feature request is competing against other feature requests for the programmer's attention.
    .................David Marston

I think it might be a better option to give the game bringer a choice on how/when they're notified. Personally, I would've liked to have been notified immediately. However, I understand if other people might prefer the option of letting a tech do a preliminary evaluation first, especially if they're not roaming around at the show 100% of the time.

    Quoted from truemagoo102:

It was amazingly terrible. Like a stench that none of us had ever witnessed before. Just a combination of all of the most foulest of substances. Everyone should experience it once to experience what hell must smell like. Seriously, the hotel should advertise it.

    Quoted from arcyallen:

Thanks for posting this. I'd love to see others posting their show stats. I've always assumed the busy pins would get 1000 plays over the weekend, and T2 was definitely a "fairly busy" pin.

Yeah, I thought it might be a bit higher too, but it's still roughly what I usually see for play counts on the games I bring to shows.

    Quoted from DaveH:

The only difficulty with that is not a lot of people know the real requirements. From a quick guess it’s around 250 rooms and a minimum of 30k square feet of space. But then it runs right into the other obvious factors of price. Because you could get that in Boston, but nobody could afford it. Then venue design comes in, because there is one in Marlboro, but the 47k trade hall is not attached to the hotel(5 min walk). It’s a difficult problem because there are not that many places that can handle a show like Pintastic at a price that could make it work.

Two other big factors to consider are the electrical system, and ease of loading for a stream of dozens of people bringing in games and stuff for vending.

There were venues I had to cross off the list when starting the Saratoga show because of each of those items.

Can you rent out the state of Rhode Island?

    #1161 1 year ago
    Quoted from beelzeboob:

Please don't. They have no good sandwiches there. The bullseye of the purple seems to be my house in Northern NJ. Just sayin'.

Pfft, I just bring my own sandwiches. That's basically what I survived on for 4 days. That, and a meal at burger king that basically tasted like a salt lick.
