    Quoted from Brewchap:

Besides at the bar, how does one recognize who is a pinside member?

I’ll be working the game registration table and my hair is blue (but fading fast) right now! Bring a game and say hi, or volunteer for a mini shift or two and you get to see everyone!

All the fabulous game bringers kept me hopping yesterday, so I haven’t had a chance to grab any updated photos of the free play room yet! The enthusiasm that everyone is showing though was wonderful to see though and the day absolutely flew by!

I wanted to let everyone know that if you would like to see the list of registered games and see what’s been listed for sale, you can go to https://pntstc.com/games.html go view the list and click on individual games to get more info. (Game owners, if you’d like to update your info at all, just swing by the game registration desk and I’ll help you update it and get a new card printed). The prices I’ve been hearing sound really great, and it’s lucky for all of you that I don’t have the $$, floor space or back muscle to pick up everything I was tempted to!

You can also use this link to report game issues, but if you do, just double check that you are clicking on the correct game number as we do have a few duplicates!

    Quoted from CFoote:

Had a great time this year, I'd say the show was about 80% of the pre-COVID show. Given everything that has gone on in the world this past 1.5 years, I'd say that's pretty damn awesome!

From a “behind the scenes” perspective, first, it’s been an incredible boost to feel the positivity and energy of the pinball community this weekend. We had a lot of amazing volunteers step up to help out, which in turn enabled our team to do more, but the enthusiasm of all the attendees was also a huge boost for everyone. Thank you!!

Naturally there were a few bumps here and there. Many were due to factors that we weren’t fully anticipating—for example we knew the hotel had some staffing shortages, but there were still some moments that things we’d gotten used to in the past just didn’t work the way we expected them too this time. We’re already having lots of individual conversations about ways we can work with/around those challenges for the next show, and as always, we’ll dig into it as a full team sometime after we’ve caught up with our sleep and work to make it better. Maybe not tomorrow though!

On a personal note, I greatly appreciated everyone who took a little time to chat with me over the weekend. People often ask me whether I’m unhappy to be sitting at my station but I can play pinball any time I want. What I value most is the time I get to spend around people who know so much about pinball. On Friday I learned a lot about how the various custom games came together. Yesterday I got some repair tips that will serve me well for years to come. I enjoy reading things online but there’s just no substitute for face to face conversations.

    Quoted from Isochronic_Frost:

Gonna be a mad rush to put the show on again in 7 months!

Shhhhhh….don’t remind me of the timeline yet!

But seriously, crazy as it may sound, I’m really looking forward to the next one, even as my body is yelling at me about this one!

    Quoted from brimc:

Yes, the program auto populates the game number. Most people who use the white board only put the game name and not the game number. The amount of white board entries for the entire show was roughly 12 machines, most repair reporting went via the system. I have no idea where the claim that there were incorrect game numbers as we did not experience this. As stated in one of my previous posts we were having an issue with the software where one of the techs would go in and close the repair ticket. Instead of the ticket getting closed and removed from the repair log the ticket was being reopened and no information from the tech was being saved, this was discovered and corrected within a few hour period. As for non online registered games they go through a process when the game enters the building and gets immediately entered into the system. Machines are not allowed into any room without a tag.

To build on what Brimc is explaining, we log all machines into the MyFlipR system. There were times this weekend where certain games may not have had a tag displayed. Outside of Thursday, when we did a bulk printing run of tags in the early evening, the untagged machines were almost all a batch of staff-owned pins that weren’t flagged to me until late on Saturday. (We printed the cards but got diverted onto other tasks so they simply didn’t get applied). Very VERY rarely, a tag would go missing from a game bringers game, but we printed replacements for those as soon as we were made aware.

We’ve been refining this system over the past few shows, and have made some big leaps forward with it. My ambition for 2022 is to print cards as games arrive so that the URL Info is posted immediately upon set up. Our game bringers also shared some great feedback that we also plan to implement and we look forward to continuing to use this program to help our team monitor and service the games that are shared out on the free play floor and other locations for the show.

Cheers, I know! I know! I have to give a talk on carnivorous plants up in Carmel, NY on Friday, and I have to take my daughter to a photo op with Millie Bobby Brown at a Stranger Things convention in Edison, NJ on Sunday... (My wife needs on the car on Thursday; still trying to negotiate for Saturday, so fingers crossed... The argument that there won't be a show in November MIGHT be buy me some goodwill.)

Ummm wait, I could be listening to a talk on carnivorous plants??!! Curse this scheduling conflict!

    Quoted from jonnyqtrek:

HEHE, if it turns out I can make it to Pintastic Saturday, I'll try to bring a plant for ya, cheers! (not kidding)

I totally would love a plant BUT…I am the least competent gardener ever. There’s only one plant that I’ve managed not to kill.

I greatly love the mental image of you and your man-eating plants cruising along to get over to Pintastic in time though!

I knew it--the bouncy castles are on!

    I’m on it, cap’n!!
ETA: I’m just googling pinball bouncy houses and I was pleased to see one exists somewhere in the world. But if anyone has one and wants to bring it, I’ll help you figure out how to get it registered in the game registration system. I will let the free play room team help you figure out where to set it up.

    Quoted from Pinwizkid:

I registered a game online yesterday and it's pending approval (I know the show started already). I'll be there with it tomorrow morning. Just wondering if it's likely to get approved for Free Play section? Looks like there is still room for more games.

Bring it! We’ll take in games at any point until we get kicked out!

    Quoted from Redfive05:

(I even gave my daughter a whole lecture while setting up on how I clean both sides of the glass so there are no smudgy finger prints on the back side of the glass).

At home I use cotton inking gloves so I don’t leave fingerprints on the inside.

I’d like to add that we did look to see if we could fix the issue with Criss Cross, but unfortunately the owner was correct that it was beyond our ability to resolve on site.

But more importantly, I’d like to thank the people who reported via the website or by speaking with us to point out anything that wasn’t functioning correctly. I’ve been and will continue to be a game bringer bc despite the risks and the labor involved, there’s a great community of people who really just love pinball at heart, help us keep the games going, and it’s a blast to share my pins with that crowd!

[quoted image]My EM - Swinger had 342 plays. Seem to hold up well. Not too bad for a fifty year old.

Held up better than this 50+ year old!

Gabe said it best. The team is considering multiple factors (layout, infrastructure, accommodations, impacts to attendance, etc). It’s not a simple answer, bc if it was, we would already have chosen it, but we’re working very hard on figuring everything out—usually the first month or two after the show is quiet as we’re all trying to recover, but we’ve been researching almost nonstop since the minute we got home.

If you have any suggestions of venues etc, please feel free to continue to post them, and otherwise just know that there’s a lot of people who care deeply about this show working to make sure that we fix the issues from 2022 for 2023.

    #1103 1 year ago
    Quoted from DaveH:

The only difficulty with that is not a lot of people know the real requirements. From a quick guess it’s around 250 rooms and a minimum of 30k square feet of space. But then it runs right into the other obvious factors of price. Because you could get that in Boston, but nobody could afford it. Then venue design comes in, because there is one in Marlboro, but the 47k trade hall is not attached to the hotel(5 min walk). It’s a difficult problem because there are not that many places that can handle a show like Pintastic at a price that could make it work.

That’s pretty much our starting point, but from an even simpler approach, even just if you think about other events you’ve gone to (pet shows, house shows, creepy doll shows, etc) and just share those locations it’s a starting point for us to look closer at the space. We have team members spread around New England, but even we’ve been digging up locations we hadn’t seen before so I’m sure we’re still missing some.
