I am always on the lookout for a good deal - I watch local home sale listings for pins in basements and contact the owners if they are willing to sell so as not to have to move them with them...

    Quoted from PinJim:

Wow, never thought of this technique.
I posted on Nextdoor years ago and snagged an Amigo for a great price.

Doesn't usually work on the people near me - they look up new pinball machines, or sometimes stumble on here and see the price ranges and think that their old one, that barely works, needs flipper rebuilds - heck needs a full teardown cleaning and refurb - is worth near the top of the price range because that is what they paid for it when they got it.

    Quoted from cantbfrank:

A good place to find some undervalued pins.

They are usually overvalued and very underappreciated / maintained in my experience. Takes a bit of work to get them to realize that just because it exists does not mean it is worth the high end of the range.

    Quoted from wolverinetuner:

Here’s an ad to lower the price average: A newbie apparently joined Pinside to post a for-sale ad for a Williams Klondike for $5. (I didn’t forget any zeros.) But take note, that price is firm.

From the looks of that thing, and based on where it is on sale from, it looks like it went through a hurricane flood.

    Quoted from poppapin:

How can you tell? No pics or description. Looks like new user too!

There was one picture that I saw, legs looked rusty, the sides look warped, and the dirt on the PF looks like dried sludge and then I just interpolated that with it being from from New Orleans (user name CheriNola and location pin).
