That's the tricky part about never ever giving out Ds or Fs to aspects that really deserve it... soon, everything just turns into a B. Sorta makes the whole review system moot when we know it is gonna be a B no matter the game.
C’mon , great show .. yeah . And we can’t fault them but still have to acknowledge they sell games . It’s their livelihood!! Expecting anything else than some bias to that end would be assuming that both us and them are dummies .

Post your letter grades here for a couple games we recently reviewed so we can see how it’s done.

As a consumer, I'm likin' this mini revolution from a few distros regarding their "make me an offer" deals on unsold inventory. As Dennis points out, the current model of not allowing distros to sell below MSRP is antiquated and makes zero sense. Many distros, including a friend of mine, are sitting on scores of TS4, Godfather and James Bond 60th pins that they might be able to move if they were allowed to lower the price. I'm also seeing quite a few popping the box and selling the pins as "used". Can't say I blame them.

It's pretty simple math problem for distributors. I don't know the distributor margins or the payment terms with the manufacture, but if the margins are small, and they need to pay upfront for everything than it puts the distributor in a bad situation if they can't turn games quickly. They really have no choice, but to discount otherwise they don't survive. My guess is this is already quietly happening as they have no choice.
Great episode and I love the discussion on the business end of things. Question - when a distro gets games to sell and inventories them - do they actually purchase and own the game? Or is it like the car businesses where the dealers get a loan from the manufacture?
So those Zeps that dealers have sitting - are they paid in full?

Interesting- If the dealer is paying in full then it’s nuts of the manufacturer to set a minimum floor. if the games are paid in full and the dealer owns them why can’t they sell them for whatever they want. - sell them as old in box at a discount since they are now the dealers personal games.

All of our inventory is paid in full. Plus, we have some deposits with manufacturers on games that haven’t been made yet.
I believe the system overall works great, but I can see certain situations that could benefit from modification at times. At the end of the day it’s business and not all businesses are good at what they do. It takes a lot of work to get it right, to find that balance/management of a working market. It’s not for the faint of heart, but that’s one reason I love it so much. Life is a risk. So is business.
Sounds like a great setup if you are a manufacturer. Also works well for dealers/distribs when pinball is hot and games are flying off the shelves. Works not so well for an unpopular title or when the market is cooling.
I get there being a floor. It helps the dealer chain stay competitive. But after the game has been in inventory for a certain amount of time a dealer should have the ability to price how they need to to get the game moving. Manufacturers don't want the liability of a large amount of inventory in the factories, don't see why they would expect dealers/distributors would. IMO, if a game is no longer being actively produced the manufacturers should no longer give a crap.

They weren't technically nuggets, they were breaded strips of chicken. Practically a salad!
Sadly, no White Castle in the Kansas City area anymore (nor anywhere in Kansas). When I was a teen there was. Closest now I think is in Columbia, Missouri (about 140 miles away).

None in the Pac NW either. Their sliders are one of several "fine food" items that I miss from growing up in Chicago.

Episode Summary
John Borg is known for his distinctive style and approach to designing pinball machines. His design philosophy is as distinct as a fingerprint. 'Borgie' focuses on creating layouts that offer smooth flow and satisfying shots. He aims to design pinball machines that provide players with a sense of continuous motion and engaging gameplay. His layouts often feature well-integrated ramps, orbits, and habitrails that facilitate fast and exciting ball movement across the playfield. John also gets the coolest theme.
This month Dave and Ron talk about how cool John Borg is and why Dave is not, what John did after he left Stern in 2000 and what he did when he got back, developing his style, reusing elements, orbit spinners (yeah!), John’s themes, and what makes Borgie’s second kick at a pinball career the path of a modern pinball legend.

Zach,
Any plans for you and Dennis to discuss the recent Pinball Profile podcast with Jack and Steve Ritchie? It was interesting for sure, I'd like to hear your take on the body count that Steve accumulated passive aggressively throwing people he worked with before under the bus. I used to think he'd be a interesting guy to have a pint with if the chance ever came up, but now not so much.
I concur dtrimberger. That interview was like listening to a high school kid crap on their old friend group. I appreciate the candidness but it sure didn't come off as classy did it? But Steve has been in this business for just about as long as I have been alive so he probably doesn't care, and that's just fine.
What I thought was kinda funny was when Steve passive aggressively threw JJPs mechanical engineering under the bus when discussing the recent hire they got from Stern and how it's gonna be so much better now

Interesting perspectives - on life and especially the pinball hobby - from Jason as always.
Oh to own no games! On one hand, that would be SO liberating. But then again, I enjoy my addiction of collecting and playing these games.
And ... Bond is great! You asked so there it is.
Good luck and hope to hear from you again!
